Some moves are illegal outside the ring too. Piledriving an attacker on the streets can easily be seen by a court as excessive force at best, attempted murder at worst. People forget the law applies equally to everyone, including criminals, including aggressors. Someone jumping you is not an excuse to cripple them for life

One thing you should remember though is dirty moves are supplements to good training, not a substitute for it. A kick in the balls isn't going to work against a trained fighter that knows how to block. A poke in the eye won't work if you can't throw a punch or hold a person down.

@@infernaldisdain8051 Almost every American I see is complete garbage when it comes to foreign names. And it goes beyond pronunciation. Quite often it doesn't even follow the rules of their own language. If you have a good argument, you're free to prove me wrong. But I've yet to see even a single American UA-camr who is somewhat decent when it comes to pronouncing foreign names... while the foreign UA-camrs often are a lot better when to comes to this. Honestly they'd probably be good competition for Japan (who are also complete garbage when it comes to pronouncing foreign names... and what both countries have in common is that exposure to languages outside of their main language is very little).

I think Luke puts more of an emphasis on hard knockdowns (run grab, EX Sand Blast, his DP followup, all his charged specials, etc.), making it easier to be on top in an oki situation and catch someone trying to swing as they get up. He's more in-your-face than Ken, to be quite honest. Puts in crazy work.

Funny thing is that when it comes to martial arts, for most of us brazillians, we think immediatly at something grappling related (even though striking martial arts have been more of a thing for some decades now, namely Muay-Thai, Karate and obviously: Capoeira). Most of the fighting styles developed over here over the centuries are grappling centric or has grappling ingrained on it in some way.

The way a lot Americans wrongly pronounce Ryu's name mostly comes from the popularity of Mortal Kombat in America and how Mortal Kombat's Shirai-Ryu is mispronounced in that franchise. It's frustrating when you hear characters like Hanzo and Kuai Liang blatantly mispronouncing it despite them being fluent in the Japanese language (especially Hanzo who is a native Japanese...). That being said, NRS is aware that the way they pronounce Shirai-Ryu is wrong, but the butchered pronunciation has become so iconic for the MK's fanbase (which is predominantly American audience) that they don't bother correcting it anymore.

Playing SF from a young age, my brother said "Rye-you" so that's what I said as well. I later learned Japanese phonetics and also heard it pronounced correctly. Now, the English adaptation of "Ree-ooh" is most common, which is the least silly-sounding way to say it mostly right in regular conversation. This is how the English announcer says it in-game.
The true Japanese sound is like a single-tapped "R", but can also come across to us as an "L" sound, and is very awkward to pronounce in that context for an English speaker. It can sound to us like "D'you"

From an animation perspective in 2d fighters they tend to favor open positions where both characters are slightly facing twords camera. This is because the readability of moves is very important and it allows for more dynamic animation. In a 3d game like Tekken however characters do have a specific foot they lead with regardless of side. Because the camera is dynamic the poses need to be readable from all angles.
