Pagani Design PD1766 Full Review. Their Take on a 1957 Classic... But Are They Listening?

- I have reviewed a few watches from Pagani Design now but I have deliberately stayed away to see if any improvements were made over time.
The new Pagani Design PD1766 is their take on a classic watch from 1957 which is synonymous with space travel.
The PD1766 chronograph is available in 3 colourways, Green metallic, Blue metallic and a Textured Black with sandwich dial. It also houses the much loved and trusted Seiko VK64 Meca-quartz movement for reliability.
PD watches have a certain reputation so have Pagani Design learned from their previous mistakes and listened to their customers or will this Pagani Design PD1766 fail on the Launchpad.

I commend you, John, for being one of the only watch reviewers on here who think of us small-wristed folk. You often if not always mention what the smallest wrist size is for any given watch. Thank you! As far as the watch is concerned: I was waiting for this review to drop. Looking at the pictures on the Pagani website, it looked like this watch would be a little too blingy, with the semi-polished bracelet (eeeeewww), the polished side of the bezel and the dial. I think I'll get the black dial version, with the textured dial, and put it on a lovely brown leather strap (the Pagani one looks kinda meh). I've got a 6.25" wrist so the bracelet will be too large anyhow, and I despise those cheap butterfly clasps. Thanks for the review!

@@johnswatchjoint I think Pagani are listening. I don't know if the 6 links you removed was the maximum of removable links at the time, but my watch arrived with 8 removable links. I'd removed all 8 hoping it would then fit my puny 6.25" wrist. I had to put one link back because it was too small. The bracelet is not nearly as blingy as I thought it would be, at least not indoors, but I'll be putting this one on a nice vintage leather strap anyhow. Not bad for a 45€ watch.
Love the colour and style, but not a fan of shiny bracelets or butterfly clasps, but that easily resolved by buying it on leather as suggested. 👍🏻

Thanks for the great review. It’s great stores are reaching out to you more. No one does budget budget watches better than Pagani. I’m fortunate enough where I can spend a little more for better bracelets and lume. But for those who can’t or won’t, you can’t beat Pagani.
San Martin is a better value imho
They are in a higher price bracket but lately have had their own quality issues ..their Watchdives Sn0121g is a case in point..review to follow!

Whenever there is an option to save a bit with the non-bracelet model I always go with that since the bracelet is always pants from them.

Hello, thanks for the review. Are there any allignment issues or crooked index? Especially im curious about 6 index, is it perfectly at vertical angle?

Thanks for fast response 🙋🏻♂️at some angles 6 index looks like little bit crooked to left, but i think it is because of dome shaped crystal.
Sometimes the camera angle does that as the lens on my pixel captures the image from the left.
Nice enough for the money. The dial looks like it's from something more expensive for sure.
on the leather strap, I feel there is a gap between the strap and the case, is that normal?
Yes that is perfectly normal on most watches.
I never trust a butterfly clasp as I always worry it will release by accident.

The green dial is beautiful, I like it a lot since I do have another dial of the same color. I was going to pull the trigger until I saw the lume test. I must have all night lume or I wont buy at all. I have too many watches and I must set a min performance criteria for a new one.

Mate! Here's another one of your reviews I fully agree with! 😂 The watch head look great but the cheap looking bracelet is a bit of a letdown here. But you can also see the original watch on nice leather straps and it looks fantastic. Or maybe a nice sailcloth would be an alternative as well.
Uh oh...that's two now! I deliberately stopped getting PDs so that I could gauge their improvements...but it seems nothing has changed. They do execute watch heads pretty decently but the Lume and the bracelet choices / quality remain questionable. Disappointed because they have been told time and again by their customers of the issues. Ah well we can only review and hope something positive comes out of it eventually haha!

Hi John, I just received a PD 'Daytona' with the exact sticky end link problem as you showed in the video. What's the solution to make it 'smoother'; bathe it in hot water, use WD40, or any other suggestions?
To be honest I don't recommend PD anymore given the relentless QC issues. Have you raised the issue with the seller. Ask for a new bracelet. Other than that, send it back or you will be in dremel sanding country :/
@@johnswatchjoint I buy PDs when they are at such low prices. I guess I'll have to live with the imperfections or find a solution.
You should ask for a new bracelet. The bracelets and the clasps on PD watches are their achilles heel and I have had countless issues with them.
Definitively a better Pagani Design watch, In regards of the dial it's a step up from the 1701. Cons: sharp case edges, dead dial as there is no second dial, lume as bad as all other Pagani watches.
Dont you think there should be shops in the uk for these watches so you can see them in the flesh and try them on , ive got so many watches ordered on line that ive not got on with because of this very reason..great reviews by the way my friend.
Unfortunately the price would double overnight with overhead!

VK 64 has no seconds hand. Only when Chrono in use :)

The music is all legal. Just my choices from the catalogue of Epidemic Sound.
Where's the second hand?
???it's a Chronograph. The seconds hand on this only actuates when you time something using the pushers.

Now that your cabin's done, why not apply your DIY skills to fitting a cat flap? Then you won't have to check the ungodly hour that Molly has chosen to wake you and crap lume won't matter.
We did think about it but our neighbours have strange cats coming into their homes and I won't put a magnetic collar on her.
