- The most replicated and popular image of Queen Elizabeth II is on the Machin series of stamps. Visit the London Postal Museum, home of a plaster cast of the Queen and also the Mail Rail used to transport mail under the street of London. These stamps are also popular with stamp artists as they are available in quantity and an extensive range of colours.

Wow, watched this video during my lunch break when the £1 1968 machin die flashed across the screen that is on display at the Postal Museum. I have been looking for a die proof of this one, and found later that the Postal Museum actually have a master die proof! Since contacted them and they will try to give me a high res scan of it! I need this for some research on transfer roller direction and an ensuing stampy research article! All this from the excellent video by "Exploring stamps". I shall have to see if I can acknowledge them in my article!!

straight edge came from booklet,
phosphorus edge for machine cancel,
solid background or not,
Hi loving your videos, I have several 1963 National Nature Week number 197 stamps posy of flowers. Some are marked/franked with( 1863-1963 UndergrounD A century London service} and the underground logo. I was wondering why no commemorative stamp was struck in that year to celebrate the occasion and why just the cancelation was used ?

The only way to organize Machins is to get an album for them which contains only Machins. Palo albums are probably the best. When the Queen dies the series will end, thankfully. I am planning on waiting for that day so I can get this album as I will not have to buy additional supplements. In the meantime they are in a large stock book in the proper order by catalog number. The Scott and Stanley Gibbons catalogs differ on the major issues. I use Scott.

Hey, yesterday i found my grandpa’s stamps. I dont know much about stamps but one of them had the queen Elizabeth’ head with initials at the bottom. It looked like the black penny but it was little different. Can somebody help me find out what it is because i cant find it in the internet.Thank you very much😊

Never been too bothered about Machins, although I have a lot!! Part of the reason is not knowing how many and what order to put them in albums, they confuse me lol. But this made them more interesting....
I was much the same, just saw too many that I never gave them a proper thought. I love them now that I have looked into and learned about the stamp.
There is also a type where there is something like a coat of arms next to Elizabeth II, from Wales I think? Do you know why those were made?
LadyTomoyo1 They're regional issues. They've been issued in some form since 1958 in Northern Ireland, Wales, and Scotland and England started issuing its own in 2001, just the most recognisable ones were the Machin definitive with the symbols in the upper left corner. As far as I know, they're intended to celebrate the four countries of the UK, a bit like the old £1 coins eschew showed a symbol of one of the four. They were technically only valid for postage from their respective countries but they ended up being used everywhere. Even though the current regional issues aren't Machins anymore, you can still sometimes see the Machins used for postage - if you ever order stamps by post through one of the 'approvals' services, the companies will usually post you the stamps with stamps from the 1980s and 1990s as a nice touch and they're usually covered in these low denomination Machins, a lot of which are those regional issues.
Fascinating, I also did not know this. I have some with a dragon, and a lion..etc. Definitely celebrating the 4 countries. Thank you for sharing this!! :D
