Do you need another guide to help you I would love to do it I have a good knowledge of London and I'm friendly and can do a good job and I don't need paying lol
at 02:39 you slipped into a Mr Benn parody which was rather nice, as the way he went off for his adventures & then returned to his normal life made me think he was the original Indiana Jones.
I used to be a postman at mount pleasant for nearly 38 yrs . In 1990 ?? They painted the mail rail trains & platforms yellow to represent the Vatican"s underground . Bruce Willis did 2 days of filming down there for the film ( Hudsons Hawk ) He filmed on the Saturday / Sunday nights . The platform Manager who"s name was Greg . Got a photo of himself & Bruce Willis & the film crew . Greg told me that Bruce Willis was a really nice guy and the photo looked terrific . ................. Joolz love your video"s mate
Brilliant. As your film suggest too - the Postal Museum is a must. I was MOST FORTUNATE to have taken a ride on opening day and loved it and the museum as well. It is not to be missed. Cheers
had heard of the post train but not that it was preserved and turned into a great attraction that keeps its spirit alive, thanks for alerting us to this unique experience
My Great grandfather, William Finch (1858-1918) was a letter carrier, and later a postal clerk at Clerkenwell. His brother William (1857-1908) also woked there, as did my grandfather Leonard B.A. Finch (1892-1963). I knew nothing of this when I went to work at Canada Post in 1975.
That was absolutely delightful!!! Great fun! One more Joolz Guide to love. I wish I had these as a resource before my one and only visit to London 12 years ago. Many thanks, sir!
Yes! I was the 100th "thumbs up"! Yet ANOTHER museum to add to the list for when we visit London! After we get there we may never leave! There is So Much to do! Great Job, Joolzie! Sweltering here in Louisiana, 96 degrees and 80% humidity, indoors under a ceiling fan sweating like a pig! But....great to get another vid from you Joolzie, makes it all more bearable...like a letter from a dear friend...Cheers!
Oh, how kind! Well I've lately been wondering who it is who always gives me a thumbs down. There's always at least one! i wonder why! Probably my friend!!
Thank you Joolz on this lockdown I am Hea Concierge in Knightsbridge sitting here bored until I found you and your vids, you keep me awake cheers mate.
Thanks for very interesting video. I am fan of museums. I think I have to visit in postal museum next time, when I visit London. Have a very nice summer, Joolz!
Congratulations on completing 100k subscribers. Miles to go before we rest and cheers on our first milestone. Joolz Guides is more than a UA-cam channel. It's a knowledge school where you teach and we learn, sometimes beyond London. Carry on the good work👍
I filmed the Mail Train back in the the early 90's for Nickelodeon, the kids TV channel, whose studio was across the road from the Charlotte St sorting office, a station on its route. It was still in use by the Post Office back then and was certainly a lot grubbier and run down than its present incarnation. I'll have to have another look at it after the lock-down comes to an end.
Well Lick my Stamp! Yet another reason to return to London, inspired by Mr. Joolz, London's premier travel ambasador! What a fun and informative museum awaits our next trip!
I'd love a guided tour with you of London..... can you get me a ride to London from the States? I'd go boat, but I saw the mail was 77 years late, so I am a bit uncomfortable mailing me and my wife to the U.K.
We have our own postal museum here in Washington DC and your'e right, it's one of the lesser known tourist attractions in the city, and yet it's one of the most interesting and fun museums in the city, I imagine just like in London
My dad worked at Mount Pleasant for over 30 years until he retired in 1999. He met Bruce Willis when they used the mail train to film scenes for Hudson Hawk. Great video. Can't wait to visit. Hope your eye is healing?
Oh wow. I hear that film is awful but I'd like to see it. They have a research centre upstairs that's free to use so you can look up all about your dad. they will have records and stuff there for you to see.
Fun London Guides - Julian McDonnell Films That's fantastic. Thank you. The film was horrendous but my Dad didn't have many brushes with Hollywood in his life so it had a special place in his heart.
Another living person on a stamp - Paul Simonon (Bass Player for the Clash). When the Royal Mail did a series of stamps of record covers they included London Calling by the Clash featuring Paul.
Hi Joolz, is it included in the London Pass??? thanks for all the material you share! i'M planning my first visit to London and your videos fills me with a lot of expectations!
Hi Grace, I don't think so. I think you have to pay for this one although I didn't check. I got in for free. The London pass is only useful if you have really planned well otherwise you can end up wasting money on it.
Most co-ops used the vacuum tube system. They led from each counter to a central cashier's office - the assistant put the bill and your money in the tube, pulled a handle and it swooshed off. A few moments later it would come back with any change needed and off you went.
great videos Joolz...just one small detail about the the post office and the penny black...it was started by Sir Roland hill of Kidderminster....if I'm wrong I'll buy you a beer next time I'm in London
Thanks for the tip, will make sure to visit next time we are in London for a holiday. Your videos would have made our last holiday more fun knowing where to go. Alas, I first saw your videos when I returned home and I was sorry I had not seen them earlier. Great job by the way. Keep up the good work. Have you done anything on The Shard? The magnificent architectural building which has become iconic and a part of the cities' skyline. Thanks. l live in Spain, by the way :)
thanks Nick. That's kind of you. Actually I don't like those modern buildings much. I prefer the older ones. I'd like to do a film about the Shard but they probably wouldn't let me in. The view is tremendous of course. I'm glad you like the films. Thanks again!
Fun London Guides - Julian McDonnell Films thanks for your reply. You do a wonderful job. BTW, I like the older part of London too. I'm really frightened of heights... But is was actually okay. Yes, I cued for an hour to get in with my family.

Wonderful! Don't forget to tell the people at the museum!

Hard to figure out who's having more fun. Joolz or the tourists!! Great video trip down 'memory' lane.
You know you're starting to get old when things you remember from your childhood are now in a museum.
Absolutely love Julian, he is so entertaining and knowledgeable about London.

Sean Lynam He’s probably too tall to fit in the sewers lol
Really enjoyed this one. My dad would love this museum, especially the train ride. I'll take him next time we're in London. Thanks for these vids.

When youtube recommends you a corker of a hidden channel and you just know you're now in it for hours before the intro finishes.....
Wohoo finally your back!:)

Love the Mr Benn reference! Loved this tour , so interesting!

There were more older people when I went strangely enough. Older kids!
Fun London Guides - Julian McDonnell Films ..Same when I went lol..Was a tight squeeze in the carriage with an older larger man but worth it.
My bowler hat got crushed!
Fun London Guides - Julian McDonnell Films haha...yeah not a lot of headroom!

Joolz is a very talented man , reminds me of john clease
Mr Ben was great :)
Love museums Joolz and this one looks like a bundle of fun. That shuttle train is a blast, although I wonder if at 6ft 1, I may be oversized!
Well..yes! I am 6'6" and I made it just about!
Fun London Guides - Julian McDonnell Films Blimey Guv, I thought you were tall but didn’t think you were in giant territory!
Chicago’s old Main Post Office May have been the largest ever built.
I love your work.

I've seen them in the movies!
Sadly I used to see them for real !
Yes, there's a lot of that going on in the museum! Stuff you recognise!
I enjoy your videos so much! Well done! Very interesting
Thanks you Kelly!
Have been to the Museum - it’s all this and more. Make sure you take the train ride. Recommend highly.
great videos Joolz...just one small detail about the the post office and the penny black...it was started by Sir Roland hill of Kidderminster....if I'm wrong I'll buy you a beer next time I'm in London
Hi Joolz
I just found your vids and I love them
Is that woman Lil lost Lou? Is she really your sister?
Yes, she is my sister. Do you know her? She wrote the song too.
Were you pushing a pram around Spitalfields on 17 May? If not, you have a twin shopping for antiques!
Pretty awesome, and a nice bird there as well.
I assume you mean my sister! She wrote the song too (or the girl working at the museum) 🙂
Nice bird?! Where are you from? A 1969 'Carry On' script?!
Thanks for the tip, will make sure to visit next time we are in London for a holiday. Your videos would have made our last holiday more fun knowing where to go. That mini railway is real James Bond stuff.
I have been working for Royal mail for thirty years and i still haven't visited this museum. I am based at mount pleasant.
Love the music
I'm binge watching all your videos! I wonder if we're related!
The beginning of the end for that underground railway was the invention of the floppy disc. Because it was electric it produced strong magnetic fields that could interfere with the magnetically encoded information on them and corrupt it.
I saw Spitting Image on youtube and the Queen was writing out her Christmas cards. She finishes and says "now for the stamps." Then she slaps her head on the table and the letter gets her profile image.
Omg that mail train looks soooo fun
It's great. Don't forget to tell them you liked the video!
Brilliant again.
Thank you again! Much appreciated!
Jools anything about the disused underground stations or ghost stations ♡♡♡♡
Love 💕 Trains!
Here is an odd fact , ever successive monarch faces in the opposite direction to their predecessor on coins.
While we are here looking at post boxes, after Ireland got it's independent back, the government didn't have money to waste on new post boxes, they ordered the existing red British ones to be painted green. Many are still in use today so you can see the British royal insignia (including the rare ER ones) on green postboxes around Ireland, and some have had the doors replaced and so have both the British royal insignia and either the Saorstát Eireann (Irish Free State), P&T or An Post (equivalent of Royal Mail) symbols on the same box. Last year, as part of the 100-year commemoration of 1916 rising, some of these post boxes in Dublin were re-painted red, as they would have been during the war of independence. Each box invited passers-by to free-text the word printed on the side of the box to the number provided to access a video clip showing what that post-box 'witnesses' during the events of Easter Week 1916.
How amazing. Thanks for telling me. I will look out for those if I come back to Ireland.
Watching in Dec 2020!! lol
Merry Christmas to all!!!
I love your films
Thanks!
hi joolz we have a Edward the 8th post box in our road (overdale Ashtead) I think there are only 4 in the country
Hello. I was there a month ago. It's great place if you have children with.
Yes, exactly what I was thinking. So much for them to do...and adults too! Big kids!
I hope we get to see you do a vid of the Christo Mastaba! Love your vids Cheers!
Oh! That's a good idea! I'll look into that!
