What is Kintsugi?
Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese technique for repairing broken vessels.
It is called kintsugi because the pieces are glued together using Urushi which is a resin, and gold lines are drawn on the glued surface.
This is why it is called kintsugi.
The beauty of this technique has been described as an art form.
It still attracts many people today.

Thank you very much for your video. You have explained the details well and your method is a good middle path between the restoration that professional artists do with authentic materials and what a lot of westerners do, where they use epoxy and leave the edges really thick and ugly.
Thank you for your comments! If you want to experience Kintsugi easily at home, these tools are perfect for you. I hope you enjoy your Kintsugi!
Thank you for this great video. Would it be possible to share the name of this lacquer in yellow tube please?
Muchas grácias por la información!
Gracias por sus comentarios. Esperamos que disfrute de KINTSUGI!
Thank you so much for this detailed step-by-step video! If I were to do Kintsugi over three weeks, can I divide it into these three parts? Are there steps that should absolutely be done in one day?
1) breaking and gluing
2) Putty & filing
3) Shin urugi & gold powder
Thanks for your comment!
Please proceed to putty in part 1.
Because it will be easier to do part 2 if you let the putty dry well.
Polishing is done in part 2.
Since you will be polishing with water, you should let it dry here as well.
If you divide the work into 3 parts, proceed as follows
1) Break, glue, putty → dry
2) File, polish →dry
3)Shin Urushi & Gold Powder
(Part 3 should be done in one day, if Shin-urushi dries out, Gold Powder will not stick.)
Enjoy Kintsugi!
@@karutajapan thank you so much!! This is so helpful. 😊 Can't wait to try this!!
What type of two part putty is used? I tried it and it was not as soft as shown in the tutorial. Not sure if I need to replace the putty that came with the kit?
Sorry for the delay in responding! It is the same putty that comes with the kit. Putty hardens in about 3 minutes after mixing, so you need to work quickly. Once it is a single gray color, you can quickly attach it!
Hello, I'm from Brazil. Please, what is putty? And , is it possible to buy the kit and receive it here in Brasil?
Thanks for your comment! The putty is for repairing scratches and dents. Sorry, shipping to Brazil is not covered. Thanks.
Is there a reason that you cannot mix the gold powder with a shellac paste instead?
Sorry for the late reply.I don't know what shellac paste is, but...
I use something that dissolves in hot water or is safe to put in the mouth.
You will also need to consider the adhesive strength.
Iam from Vietnam, how can i buy the kit of Kintsugi?

I don't understand how the gold powder sticks after the shin-urushi is dried?
Thanks for the comment! shin-urushi is half-dried. It is most durable to sprinkle gold powder after it has been blended. It takes about two weeks for shin-urushi to dry completely.
Does this kit ship to the US?
Sorry for the late reply, we can ship to US as well. There are some items that cannot be sent due to shipping prohibitions, so please check the links. Thanks!

How long does it take for the 2 part glue to set?
It takes about 3 minutes after mixing. Failure to mix well can cause defects! Thanks.
Is the gold powder real gold?
In old Japan, real gold was also used, but this is brass powder.
It has a food sanitation finish.
