This needs to have more views. I had to replace strut mounts 3 times (cheap mounts) and I pulled the entire shock from the car. It's so much easier leaving the shock in place as you did it, just tried it myself and it was a breeze.

Did my R50 Cooper's strut mounts today and this video really helped me. Thanks a lot for posting it.

That bolt in the middle, holding the mount is an absolute pain to remove and it's 21mm in pre-facelift R53. I would advise having a special tool for the removal of that bolt.

I just changed the upper strut mounts and have to torque this. I think I need a hex socket that I can get a wrench on and a hex key/ Alan key to go through the middle and hold the shock still. I could tighten it manually that way, but unless a crows foot fits in place of the socket, I can’t torque it

My pinch bolt head snapped off while REinstalling it , it was due to all the stress from removal. My jaw dropped. It was a nightmare to remove. What finally work was drilling 3 holes in the threaded side of the bolt and honing out a slit for a flat head screwdriver with a square shank. I heated the bolt with a torch BUT you have to heat the shoulder side of the bolt, not the threaded portion. It is the swelling rust that is causing the resistance. Took me 5 hours to figure this out.

Sway bar link 30-35foot pounds of torque
Upper strut bolts (3 bolts removed from the top = 25 foot pounds of torque
Center nut that holds tension for the coil = 47 foot pounds of torque.
    Lastly.
    Center nut did = 21mm
    Sway bar is 17mm
And the top nuts for the struts = 13mm
    Wrench or socket.

FYI don’t buy KYB get Lemforder which is BMW MINI . I spent $60 on each mount thinking KYB would be top of the line. They stretched as soon as I put them in . So I had to replace them after I did the full rebuild of each strut. I did it this way. It is super easy as the mini springs have very little movement when under load .

Love it. About to do this today. Saved me pulling out the whole shock.
