- Se mai senti spirarti sul volto from the opera Catone in Utica, RV 705
by Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741)
Roberta Mameli, soprano
Il Complesso Barocco
Alan Curtis, conductor
The role of Cesare was first sung by soprano castrato Lorenzo Girardi.
Se mai senti spirarti sul volto
lieve fiato, che lento s’aggiri,
di, son questi gli ardenti sospiri
del mio fido che langue per me.
E se fia dal suo seno raccolto,
la memoria di tanti martiri
sarà dolce con tanta mercè.
[Metastasio]
TRANSLATION (by Charles Johnston):
If you ever feel your brow fanned
By a light, hovering breeze,
Say: ‘Those are the ardent sighs
Of my faithful lover who languishes for me.’
And if it is sheltered in your breast,
The memory of its many torments
Will be sweetened by such pity.

La superba interpretazione di questa raffinatissima ed elegante aria da parte di Roberta Mameli fa sicuramente gioire il Prete Rosso!
Indeed. I’m very fond of her singing.
Волшебно! Безупречно музыкально, очень стильно и вкусно! Абсолютно ❤
I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’m very fond of her singing.
Preciosa voz la de Mameli, es un pajarillo, un ruiseñor, qué belleza de timbre y musicalidad. El da capo es sublime, gracias Jeffrey.
You're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed this. I am very fond of her singing.
This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. I have the Naive "Catone" but haven't played it yet. Down about so many things today, it's funny how music can just change that around. Whenever I hear the music of Handel, Vivaldi, Mozart, I begin to realize that there's hope for humanity, that a species that can produce this sort of thing must be essentially good. Thank you.
Charlie Richards You’re welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed this. Music certainly makes the world a better place.
don' make any too optimistic assumptions on such weak ground...
Sublime expression of Baroque music and delightful vibrant interpretation of Roberta Mameli! The voice becomes almost a flute soloist.
Indeed. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Dear Jeffrey, I did not know this piece of music, I heard it and had tears in my eyes, it is so touching, more than beautiful, it touches the soul. And thinking of the sad things happened in your country, killing kids in a school, let there be no more guns! Greetings Jan-Pieter
I’m glad you enjoyed this aria. It is very beautiful, particularly as sung by Roberta Mameli. The gun violence here is sad indeed, but it’s also incredibly frustrating, because nothing is ever done to address it. Kind greetings.
Fantastica!
I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Dear Jeffrey, I love the barock's Arias You choose, which are also often my fafovite ones I'm a Lyric song's Soprano and try to learn this gorgeous Vivaldi's composition for an "audition" I need the keyboard's partition, not on YT .....not even a Karaoké Vidéo I didn't fount it at the Paris PHILHARMONIE's Would You fortunately have & send it to me here ? Many Thanks f R a N c I n E
Sorry, I do not have a score. In fact, I don’t know if it’s even available in modern notation. You might be able to find the manuscript of the opera as a PDF on IMSLP, but then someone would need to transcribe the aria into a more readable format. There are people you can pay to do this.
♥️
I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Sono sempre rapito dalla voce di Roberta
Same. I have a few videos with her on my channel.
Lieber Jeffrey, versuche es das Mögliche durch deine Musik zu machen, um die BARBAREN zu Stoppen, Viva Puschkin ,wenn er verstanden sollten soll 👂
