When Sam said “they found the UIR” I was like who the hell were UIR, then 8 years laters, I found out it stands for Union of Independent Republics, all thanks to gears of war 5, and king abz, for showing me the lore of the UIR, it’s because this the first time I played this game with my cousins, back in 2011.
Same here when I first heard of UIR. I actually looked up the wiki and as it turned out. CoGs and UIR were enemies during the Pendulum Wars before E-Day.
its because they ecpected people to read the gears of war books that were made before and after 3 came out. unfortunately because they didnt have a bookstore near me (and also they cant read worth a damn) i had to put up with classmates bitching about plot points in GOW 3, including the UIR
I hope one day as gears of war progresses we get to see what Adam fenix left with Baird of his recordings. We get a little more lore to the story and understanding of what Adam went through throughout the war. What he did and what he had to do and some conversations between him and myraah. More explanations and unanswered questions we never got.
It’s kinda unfortunate that the DLC for how Baird and Cole found the ship is often played after the campaign. It really helps explain several things. One example is how Baird talks to Sam. He learned that one of the people he was in charge of when he was court martial ed in gears of war judgement died at the hands of a rouge cog soldier. He is actively acknowledging the loss by asking someone he was in a squad with to be careful, so as not to lose them too. His tone is also probably due to the loss of Dom. But the DLC makes the moment more impactful in context.

The whole game is very pretty. A great improvement over the drab grey, brown and black of the first game that made it look like a DCU film.
Cole has got to be my favorite in the game it’s just too bad this game is only on Xbox
