  • The sea tractor operating from South Sands today (MK3) has been used to transport passengers up and down the beach and into the shallow waters of the Kingsbridge Estuary since 2014. Once in the water, the sea tractor waits for the South Sands ferry to come alongside it, whereupon passengers bound for South Sands alight from the ferry onto the sea tractor and those heading for Salcombe (Whitestrand pontoon) board the ferry. Then, once all its passengers are aboard, the sea tractor travels back up the beach (a distance that depends on the tide at the time) and stops just outside of the old lifeboat house (built circa 1869) for passengers to disembark.

It is my pleasure! Salcombe is such a pretty town and the walks along the estuary are wonderful on a sunny day!
