Terrific interview. Very honest about himself. Great film, too. Perfect performances from everyone, and Mickey Rourke should have won the Oscar that year.
I have always loved the fact that Mickey speaks so truthfully and straight from deep inside himself. He has such a big heart and that he loves animals is fantastic!
Mickey Rourke is a great story teller and one of the most consistently interesting interviewees I'm aware of. I never tire of hearing him tell his stories and he's never, ever boring or pre-scripted.
My dear friends, colleagues and family ALL agree, Mickey Rourke is BY FAR a tremendous and most talented actor we have ever seen! Mickey should have won Best Actor for this film! Mr. Rourke, much love prayers and blessings from Chicago, Illinois.
+brunohale Absolutely. It was the first performance in a while that had brought me to tears. And that's saying a lot, because there were a lot of great performances that year.
+Evan S I wouldnt say i was crying like a bitch, lol. But i did get emotional at two points in the movie, the one where hes alone with his daughter at the seashore and admit his faults to her, and the end where he realizes, heart attack or not THIS is who i am, everything else makes me miserable, so if i have to go or die, let it be in the ring ! the place i love above anything else. Those two scenes got 2 me. lol. Good flick, Hulk Hogan regret to this day he didnt took that role (he said this at Howard Stern) the script passed him 2 or 3 times. Suddenly he tried to downplay it by saying:' i slept two years in my van !' & 'he cut above his eye, i cut my hole forehead from left to right' i thought that was weak move from Hogan. Mickey did a great job, and the movie wasnt even about wrestling that much, but the life behind it.
This guy is such a beautiful artist. He understands the personal honesty it takes to create it. He’s even being personal and honest here. The Wrestler is the only movie I have ever watched to the end and then started it and watched again.
This was the perfect movie for Mickey to do. He did a superb job telling the story of what a hasben wrestler goes through on a daily basis. Absolutely he should have won won the Oscar.
Thank you so much to Mickey Rourke, Darren Aronofsky, Marisa Tomei, Evan Rachel Wood and every other actor and crew member involved in this film. You made something that touched me forever and I love you for it. It was a one of a kind film and it's magic will never be reproduced, and it only happened because of you all. Thank you for your work! And thanks Midgar2310 for posting this video.
If your a huge wrestling fan of the 80's this film really hits home. It gives you a look at a aging wrestler dealing with life & his way in the ring & never giving up on himself. Deep
The film is so genuine and Mickey Rourke is a very wise and clever person who has lived pretty much the same life as the wrestler in the movie, I think! Love this movie, and it is 100000 better than Black Swan.
for all actors it sure helps to have easy access to ones emotions. All humans are a lot of things, so a good actor should be able to play all kinds of roles. For instance, Mikey doesn't have children, so in the scene with his daughter in the film he said he pictured moments from his own life with important people were he felt "desperate".
The movie is incredible. Very intense, feels very real and emotional. The real wrestling fans are going to appreciate it. The ones no nothing about pro wrestling and all they know is John Cena, well the film is not for them...
I like mickey rourke now.He seems to have grown into a loving man.Sorry about lucky mickey, but you had a nice long run w/your lil buddy! Good luck w/your future.God Bless!
A dark film, but it pulls you in and won't let you go. Rourke and Tomei are amazing in their roles. And you get to see Marisa Tomei as a stripper, often scantily-clad. What's not to love?
Aronofsky first approached Mickey about the Wrestler in 1998. It took them 10 years to make it and release it, after developing the script, fighting to get Mickey approved, replacing him with Nicolas Cage, who then stepped away when it was clear that Mickey was going to be able to do it after all. There is an interview from way back then where Mickey talks about being tapped for the project and how he knows he could knock it out of the park. I can't imagine what would have happened if The Wrestler had come out nine or ten years earlier. I'm not sure Mickey had matured enough to see it through and get the same amazing results, do the same outstanding acting that he did, give us that much vulnerability. They say everything happens in its right time. With The Wrestler, I believe it.
It was a crude character somewhat but it felt honest showbusiness is not always glamorous like people think. I loved how he had a video game based on his character he liked to play and in the stripper girlfriend he saw a version of himself almost she was dancing on a stage but it was not broadway the Bruce Springsteen song was perfect too it was a really beautiful though somewhat tragic film.
One thing I found hilarious in that movie, is when he’s in hospital after the match, he’s left a note with his pay. And the note says “your a warrior , you deserve it” and it’s obviously meant to say “you’re” a warrior. How did they let that mistake in a movie ? Lol
The thing is....I don't think he could have delivered that performance without having been to the bottom himself for 15 years. I think doing this film was a cathartic event for him.
Great interview with Mickey he actually talks about acting and his method work here which he usually ignores in interviews. You can tell this movie was very personal for him.
Bloody hell Mickey if somebody came up to me and said my dog had died I would be howling and crying. My dogs mean more to me than anything in this world. Fuck people.
Based on the interviews I've seen; Darren Aronofsky's favorite director is clearly Darren Aronofsky. The Wrestler was pretty great but I'm more inclined to tip my hat to Mickey for that.
Wait a minute! They're all saying how he hadn't work 14 years before The Wrestler, being broke and all that, but, didn't he do Sin City before this one? I mean, how's that even possible? 'Cause I'm pretty sure that Sin City is at least a year before this one!
He's a great actor. Using the dog was abusive from Darren though. I assume Mickey gave him permission to use things in his life. If not, that's betrayal of trust.
As a life long Wrestling fan. I think the movie was pretty good. But I honestly don't think Mickey really took the time to learn and respect what Wrestling is really all about. He just kinda made the film about himself and didn't take the time to learn what is really means to be a Pro Wrestler. It's a completely unique World for which there is nothing else comparable. Still a good movie. But it could have been much better and truer to the art of Wrestling.
A truly genuine and moving story. Great performance by Mickey Rourke; the depth, the darkness and loneliness. Hands down.

Terrific interview. Very honest about himself. Great film, too. Perfect performances from everyone, and Mickey Rourke should have won the Oscar that year.
Rourke brings a certain honesty to acting that sets him apart and makes his characters very human.
I notice he has some really cool techniques with his head and eyes. His acts are so natural.
This was easily Aronofsky's best film so far. And probably the best role Rouke ever played. He was pretty much born to play it.
Divided Line Aronofsky’s best film was Noah
Rourke’s best performance was Angel Heart but the Wrestler was also masterful
I believe the Black Swan is better
Rourke was better in Angel heart but ya he was incredible in this as well. He deserved this oscar
Rourke was great in Barfly
My dear friends, colleagues and family ALL agree, Mickey Rourke is BY FAR a tremendous and most talented actor we have ever seen! Mickey should have won Best Actor for this film! Mr. Rourke, much love prayers and blessings from Chicago, Illinois.
Mickey Rourke was made for this role
He literally was and no one else could've done it justice like he did.
His masterpiece for sure.
..and to think nic cage was set to be the wrestler.. mickey was born for this role
He shoulda won the "Best Actor" Oscar for his role in this movie.
+brunohale Absolutely. It was the first performance in a while that had brought me to tears. And that's saying a lot, because there were a lot of great performances that year.
Maybe, maybe not. Sean's performance was also brilliant. It's all subjective. They were both amazing and very necessary films.
+Evan S I wouldnt say i was crying like a bitch, lol. Truly one of the best movies i have ever seen.

Artist indeed
This was the perfect movie for Mickey to do. He did a superb job telling the story of what a hasben wrestler goes through on a daily basis. Absolutely he should have won won the Oscar.
He sounds like he's matured a lot and overcome a lot of difficult things.
i had a chance to meet with Mr.Rourke, he is a great human being and he deserves the best. keep punchin Mickey!
Thank you so much to Mickey Rourke, Darren Aronofsky, Marisa Tomei, Evan Rachel Wood and every other actor and crew member involved in this film. Andy Appleton spot on
I have grown to love him because of the Wrestler and his honest interviews like this. He has learned so much from life -you can tell.
If your a huge wrestling fan of the 80's this film really hits home. It gives you a look at a aging wrestler dealing with life & his way in the ring & never giving up on himself. Deep
Wow he is so real. He was born for this role jeez.
I love the Movie. And Mickey is Perfect in this Role. A Shame that He didn`t get the Oscar!
The film is so genuine and Mickey Rourke is a very wise and clever person who has lived pretty much the same life as the wrestler in the movie, I think! Love this movie, and it is 100000 better than Black Swan.
which is why his performance was spot on. He wasn't acting: he WAS the role
irisheyes317 That makes it sounds kind of unimpressive. Like he didn't even have to bother trying, only to show up and read the lines as himself.
Sounds like you take a different approach to acting
Well... to _act_, right..? Pretend to be someone _other_ than me..?
for all actors it sure helps to have easy access to ones emotions. All humans are a lot of things, so a good actor should be able to play all kinds of roles. For instance, Mikey doesn't have children, so in the scene with his daughter in the film he said he pictured moments from his own life with important people were he felt "desperate".
"I was Broke" I believe that more than his desire to work with Aronofsky.
The movie is incredible. Very intense, feels very real and emotional.
The real wrestling fans are going to appreciate it.
The ones no nothing about pro wrestling and all they know is John Cena, well the film is not for them...
He lived that part rather than acting it !
He just wears his heart under he’s sleeve, I respect him so much.
I love his voice. I love this man. Great actor. Big heart. I hope
I love this guy...
One of the best performances in history.
the best interview I've ever heard
i probably watched it 100 times,,great movie,he did it perfect
Philip Mickey O’Rourke you are somebody quite wonderful, sir. You’re extremely talented!❤God bless your wonderful life!❤💕
Mickey has such amazing charisma.
Amazing film, Mickey was fantastic! Such a cool guy
Beautiful soul, I love you Mickey ❤
I like mickey rourke now.He seems to have grown into a loving man.Sorry about lucky mickey, but you had a nice long run w/your lil buddy! Good luck w/your future.God Bless!
this is a beautiful f*cking interview, inspiring, sad, uplifting...
A dark film, but it pulls you in and won't let you go. Rourke and Tomei are amazing in their roles. And you get to see Marisa Tomei as a stripper, often scantily-clad. What's not to love?
The Dude damn she's fine
Way better than those younger models that were floating around in the movie. She was so gorgeous...
Usually strippers aren't that hot 🤷♀️
Great movie, great actor!
Angels Heart
Is my favorite rourke movie.
Creepy as hell.
.....so I called Axl up....
This movie shows what a life a pro wrestler its not worth it the dangers the drugs the addiction the everything
So I called Axel and he gave us sweet child of mine.
What a nice interview.
Micky is a real American man, any man under 30 should learn from this man.
You are the man hang in there better days ahead
To my knowledge, Mickey Rourke is the first person to use a Desert Eagle in cinema. That kind of earns him a shout-out.
???? doubt it
Yeah he has one in Year of the Dragon. Underrated film
Comeback stories are always the best
You're the best Mickey Rourke hang in there
I knew his final speech was him talking about himself, f*cking knew it!
The entire movie is about himself.
Yes, me too!!
Great actor
Thanks so much for this Midgar2310 ! Another really great interview is The Dark Side Of Fame with Piers Morgan- Mickey Rourke
Love Mickey Rourke one of my favorite movies. And Sin City:)
Decent guy, I'm told after The Wrestler he hated Iron Man 2!!
who didn't.
awesome actor

My earliest exposure to pro wrestling was in the movie "Highlander". Never been right since.
He did a movie with 2 pac he's the best actor at being vurnible
Nicolas Cage declined the role, then they selected Mickey Rourke, can you imagine Nicolas Cage in the role?
It was a crude character somewhat but it felt honest showbusiness is not always glamorous like people think. I loved how he had a video game based on his character he liked to play and in the stripper girlfriend he saw a version of himself almost she was dancing on a stage but it was not broadway the Bruce Springsteen song was perfect too it was a really beautiful though somewhat tragic film.
Done a fantastic job playing the character
You Can Go A Long Way On Hope! - You Sure Can Mickey
One thing I found hilarious in that movie, is when he’s in hospital after the match, he’s left a note with his pay. And the note says “your a warrior , you deserve it” and it’s obviously meant to say “you’re” a warrior. How did they let that mistake in a movie ? Lol
500th like, so proud to push the like button..
The thing is....I don't think he could have delivered that performance without having been to the bottom himself for 15 years. I think doing this film was a cathartic event for him.
Fantastic !
he's real thanks mickey
"Go a long way on hope" 🥰
Great interview with Mickey he actually talks about acting and his method work here which he usually ignores in interviews. You can tell this movie was very personal for him.
favourite movie
I would love to see the wrestler Mickey Rourke is one of my fav acters sucks that have to pay to see
not anymore
Bloody hell Mickey if somebody came up to me and said my dog had died I would be howling and crying. My dogs mean more to me than anything in this world. Fuck people.

14 years ago he travelled in a time machine and made Sin City and then travelled back
I’m confused when he talks about not being able to work for 14 years. He did Sin City in 2005 I believe? Then The Wrestler which came out in 2008.
Plus one for Axle lol
Very real...
I still think he is the closest actor to Marlon Brando that there could be.
👏👍💖✨👼
his fights were fake but he says wrestling is fake lol ironic huh? look at his fights they are obviously fixed
“ I was broke “ 😂
I went broke
That was done with some male child actor way back when telling him his dog died to get him to cry.
Method acting you draw on real emotions to portray them.
I Love The Movie And WWE Its Great
lol @ his supposed comeback.
+Raptor 246 but thats what you are doing as well. find out where he lives or something. super agressive over nothin, must be the steroids talking
His heavy breathing while smoking indicates he may be in the early stages of lung disease!!!
Robert from daytradingwiththelight
5 million and yet it's an art piece flick
Which illness, disease or side affect do you think is causing his involuntary nerve clenching that you can clearly see at 04:00.
@Kruimeltjelief can you find a clip? I’m interested.
He's a great actor. Using the dog was abusive from Darren though. I assume Mickey gave him permission to use things in his life. If not, that's betrayal of trust.
Is it odd that the more normal Mickey Rourke tries to be, the more bat-shit insane he appears
Now this Aronofsky guy is doing the same thing with the mommy guy, who is next? Andrew McCarthy?
As a life long Wrestling fan. I think the movie was pretty good. But I honestly don't think Mickey really took the time to learn and respect what Wrestling is really all about. He was smart if he didn’t pay you
Funny he said he looked down on wrestling because it was fixed, every boxing match he had was fixed
The movie was awful. He was not very good in it. He acts like he created something wonderful. Go away.
You are an idiot. Must be a 13 year old boy.
@@ImagineBeingFat A W F U L
@@frankcabanski9409 wasn’t awful wasn’t the best movie ever, but better than a good 80%
Amazing actor
