In this episode we detail the construction of our most beautiful greenhouse to date! We designed this Zome Greenhouse to be an extremely efficient use of it's 200 sq ft footprint. We build the structure from our own woodworking plans and didn't cut one single compound bevel in the process! This type of structure is a perfect balance of efficiency, simplicity and distinctiveness. None of the seams rely on sealant or caulking to shed water.

I did it Johnny. I built the beveled model . It took quite a bit of focus and I was forced to throw away more than one crooked 2 x But…. It came out quite nice and everyone loves it. We still have not completed the entry but I’m working with my own ideas on that one.
Quick tip; When cutting poly, you can turn your saw blade backwards to reduce the risk of breaking the plastic.
Exactly right. I used a fine tooth finish cut blade backwards and it was fantastic. No burr, chipping or cracking. Clamp each side down while leaving room to cut. One thing though, wear ear protection!!! Cutting like that creates a deafening high pitched squeal that will kill your hearing for days.

I use a sawzall with fine teeth and you have to hold the blade almost parallel to the plastic so it's almost slicing it
What a gorgeous and smart design, relying on gravity/design for water-proofing rather than “caulk the hell out of every join and have it look terrible and crack after a few years of exposure, and need to be re-caulked.” Also very nice of you to share the design….respect.

I've been building and working in construction since the 90s and I am in awe of your zone structures, but... I still can't wrap my head around how many of the same exact panel somehow create a sphere. Lol. I would love to help you build one sometime to learn from the master. I learn by using my hands, reading dosent always get it done. Especially with this concept. Anyways. Keep up the good work. Truly amazing stuff

You should change settings on your camera to adapt to whatever electrical frequency you have (50 or 60Hz). This should reduce lights flickering.

You are a highly skilled carpenter, awesome work! Question: Why not paint / seal the wood before setup of the structure? I live in AZ, the sun would destroy the wood in a few seasons without paint.
This wood does have s deck sealer on it that blocks UV! But you can adjust the finish based on your needs!

I wonder if tou could replace some of the top polycarb with solar panels or something to power a pump for water or something, use gutters around the egde and a tank underground for watering if needed!
Have you ever had folks buy your plans and contract out the work? I have looked into prefab domes, but yours are spectacular. I don't have any build skills yet, but just wondering how feasible is this build for your average contracting team?

Will you be coming to New Zealand? I live on the South Island on the wild and beautiful West Coast in the rainforest near the sea and am planning a green house and a couple of sleep out Zomes, they are so beautiful!
Looks great! I think I'm going to build one of these next year rather than buy a traditional greenhouse.
What do you use for the flashing please, or what is it made from? I'm going to see if I can get a UK equivalent.
If you had all the time in the world do you think the frames would benefit from a bevel cut? I guess the flashing covers any gap. I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to things so would be tempted to do one anyway.

I personally wouldn't do the beveled method anymore. Not only does it take about 5x the work unnecessarily, it seems to be less strong with the same amount of wood. The flashing is just aluminum sheet metal. Any sheet metal shop or roof supply in the uk should help. But you can use other bituminous materials as well. Keep me posted on your build!

I just stumbled on your site... I think you're on to something... I'd encourage to continue doing your land stuff, the sea can be even harder and she's also very very fickle, she can look all nice and inviting and then WHAM! Freckin storm breaks half of everything.... Now if you do live aboard somewhere, you gotta think diving, or maybe sea weed farming.,,and for that, You gotta do that in SEA... but again, not easy coz the culture is very different.
That's a lovely thing about being a builder... everyone needs building done no matter where in the world you go. Land is also part of our future... hopefully.

South America area has a company that loads up containers and ships them across the world.. that was the closest one I found to america... you should buy a shit ton of bamboo and get it shipped and stored here in the states.. lol I want some .
