I am enjoying your videos. I don't regularly watch even though I subscribed years ago. I am now on a new adventure to learn how to make our native food. I never learned because I am a first generation American and grew up just not appreciating the beauty of our unique heritage. Once I gained some wisdom, I realized we are beyond blessed to know our culture, history, and traditions. Its a travesty that African American don't have that connection to their true history and culture. Makes it all more beautiful to know we have ours. As my mother ages I know some of our history could be lost. I'm making it my mission to not allow that to happen. I am a late bloomer but im going to learn to cook our native food come hall or high-water. Thank you for creating these videos that will enrich the lives of many Belizeans just like me. 😊❤🎉
Love your presentation. But for those who don't wanna add the flour to the corn masa to bind it can use the maseca corn flour. Also if you don't have recado powder, you can use the regular recado but just pinch a piece off and mash it up with a little bit of water and the same maseca corn flour and make a thick paste and pour that onto your masa and knead it in. In that same paste you can add your salt and baking powder. By doing this paste, you can control the water content your masa and have sturdy balls to work with. No sticking!
I haven't had fish panades since the Belizean parade in Chicago years ago and I am gonna make these TODAY hopefully if I can find the corn masa cause this looks so good! 🤤
Aww man I gotta invite you over my auntie makes them and we in Chicago cuz girl Garifuna Flava too small for me.. but my ppl are Garifuna as well so we make Hudut, Darrasa, etc
@@zephracastillo2851 omg that sounds great! I just left Chicago two days ago too but I must confess I am not a big Darasa fan...maybe I just haven't had the right person make them for me yet.
@@PLAYG1RL07 yes we can definitely link one day. My family and I cook every Sunday different things or the staple. We stop eating pork though. But yes you definitely have to try my gma Darasa it's nice. My mom is in Belize as we speak I'm jealous because I'm here in the cold
The Bare Pantry Show Small World no true ! Because of what they taught me and watching you, my stew chicken came out good for my first time cooking it🙌
AYO POOPIE I love it. I always say my recipe should be your guide, then you couple it with what you’re ancestors taught you so you can make it uniquely yours. Congrats.
I can not wait to make ALL of this. I’ll have to work on getting the tool I need and some of those ingredients. I have no idea where in the heck I’m going to get masa

These are all also found in Yucatan. Very different from my Suegra's (mother in law's) salbutes, panuchos and empanadas. Yummy, enjoy!
I have never seen panucho (don’t know if I spelled it correctly) but I am certainly trying to make this one. Thanks
