Now that you have tested this particular projectile to find its optimal velocity in a particular barrel liner, your next step should be to index your Superior Heavy barrel liner while shooting those projectiles at 935-940 ft/s. Here is how: Make a black dot on a large piece of white paper as your point of aim for this exercise and place it at 50 yards; now shoot a five shot group while aiming at the black dot; now remove your silencer and barrel shroud and threaded barrel liner retaining nut; then loosen the grub screw in the rear block that holds the barrel in place; now make a registration mark at the 12:00 o'clock position on the top of the barrel liner with a marker; now rotate your barrel liner to the 2:00 o'clock position; then tighten the grub screw in the rear block, replace the retaining nut and shroud and silencer; and now shoot another five shot group while aiming at a new black dot on the target paper. Now repeat this entire process so that you have groups at 50 yards with the barrel liner shooting at the 12:00, 2:00, 4:00, 6:00, 8:00, and 10:00 o'clock positions. I performed this procedure on my .30 cal Impact after determining the most accurate velocity for pellets and slugs both, and I saw groups that measured from several inches down to one group where every shot went exactly into the same hole! At this point I removed the silencer, shroud, and retaining nut one last time to make my final permanent registration mark on the barrel liner at top dead center with a carbon steel stylus and permanent marker. You will be surprised at not only the difference in your group sizes that were shot at different positions of the liner, but you will also be surprised at the difference in where the groups are located in relation to your aiming point...some will be high to the right, while others will be low to the left. Weird! Indexing your barrel liner can make a huge difference in your group size and in many cases finding the sweet spot will allow you to increase the velocity while retaining the same tight group size. With this FX X-Barrel System we have the unique opportunity to index our barrel liners to find the sweet spot where it shoots the best groups, and is then in fact properly "harmonically tuned". For those who may be skeptical of the advantages of barrel indexing I recommend you contact Anschutz in Ulm, Germany and ask them what is the difference in price and accuracy for one of their rifles where the barrel has been indexed by one of their top gunsmiths...they will make a believer out of you I am sure! All the best, Chuck
Simple but over looked on these Rifles there is a good film from the FX Factory on UA-cam showing testing ! if the Barrel can not shoot 5 shots through a 5mm square it is rejected to be polished the speed is never altered and they seem to know a perfect speed and the perfect testing pellet So then just down to Barrel !!
I also believe you should do this "barrel harmonics" test using a regular chronograph with nothing hanging on the end of your barrel, to see if it makes any difference or not.
Indeed the chronograph hanging on the barrel makes a difference, but it gave me a idea of the target velocity where the groups where the best . Then I took the chronograph of and fine tuned it using the valve travel knob . When I turned it 1/2 turn out it gave me the same accuracy.
Great video showing the need for barrel harmonics but i have to wonder if the results would be the same without the chrono dangling on the end. From experience i have found a massive difference and only use the chrono to tell me the speed for each setting then get on to the harmonic tune with out it attached. The longer the barrel the greater the difference.
Thx for the support, you are right about the chronograph but I use it only to give me a lead on what speed works best . The chronograph makes a difference that’s true , but not so dat the lead FPS is far of . So once I have the potential FPS I fine tune it without the chronograph
Try repeating the test with the chronograph never touching the barrel. I believe the results will be surprising and your velocity tune will be different. Use the valve adjuster to "very slow incrimints" slowly reduce the velocity till you have a a tight group. Maybe 5fps drop each test

And if you are a perfectionist, it will double hook you!! :-) :-) There are so many variables though that it can get tricky. But much experience and hours on end will let you FINALLY see the light! That one special day you experienced great groups and everything flowed so well, where one could say it was almost magical... then tried to repeat and find your POI is off! We've all been there, and felt like crap, lost sleep thinking about it all, right?! Well the obvious is, all these and a million more variables would decrease if you start out with a good/great kit. I see that this gentleman in the video has a great kit, and besides him being a perfectionist. Because a good/great kit is a game changer. As I say...they should be paying you or sponsoring you with ammo and stuff! Great analysis! What I would have like though was you did at the same time a test with pellets! Just to compare between the two ammo types.💪👍👌😉
Thx for the tip but I am aware off this , that’s why the final test don’t include the chronograph speeds , I use the chronograph to determine the appropriate speed that gives me the best results then I take the chronograph off and fine tune it , in this case the group was even better 10fps faster at 940-945 FPS
I place my Chronograph on a sand bag on the table to rest about 1 inch under the barrel, close to the tip, this allows me to fine tune without having to do double work. The chrony is also more accurate this way.
@@gertvrey6941 Ernest Rowe mounts the FX chronograph on a fiber carbon rod that is parallel to the barrel and closer enough to record muzzle velocity flawlessly. IMO the best setup to do harmonics tuning as the chronograph does not affect the barrel vibrations.
Thx , it’s a very important procedure after turning that many people overlook or think that those airguns are shooting one hole groups at any velocity 😉
🤔 I will think about it , but when you look at the chronograph speed it reacts immediately. It’s not the same like when you change the regulator pressure or the valve adjustment

Good video. You have the slug power kit? I also ended up with the superior heavy in 25 700 mm. I’m getting better groups with the nsa 29.5 , 33.5 and 36.2 grains. The hybrids have been a disappointment in 25 for me. Looking forward for the knockouts and the H&N in 25 . Keep up the good work . Subscribed
The chrono effects the harmonic tuning as well, so what is the best way to test it to find the precision/velocity knowing the harmonics will change once the chrono is removed???
I have build a setup now where the chronograph doesn’t touch the barrel 😉 or put the chronograph beneath the barrel but you have to make sure you shoot perfectly straight over it every time to get a accurate reading
What a good video, I have a question. I recently had an M3 and I am setting it up. It is true that when the M3 is well set up you should hear it clearly when the plenum fills with air or is it a myth? I ask you why I don't hear it and to be clear that I have to keep insisting on searching for those sounds or maybe it's not necessary.
Hi 👋, thx Groups could be better but I will have to test some other slugs 🤔 out to 75 m it’s fine for me but I admit getting better results with heavy pellets . The chronograph is the one from FX paired to my phone
Hello friend, good results and it is seen that hybrids do not always behave well at higher speeds. What is the difference between the superior liner and the superior heavy liner?
The heavy liner is mostly made for heavier slugs where the normal superior for pellets and light weight slugs . That’s why I think the hybrids preform well at low speeds in the normal superior liner 🤔
What was the valve adjuster set to? Is it open all the way? If you close the valve more, how much lower can you bring the power? I was just wondering how quiet can it get? Is it possible to get it to around 500fps?
You can tune the impact to shoot at 500fps without a problem, but in this case for slugs that FPS has to be high. Also the valve adjustment isn’t the way to bring down the power , it’s more a fine adjustment
@@Airbuks Thanks for the reply! Interesting information regarding the valve adjuster! I was more concerned with being able to make the gun quieter (for backyard usage) without reg adjustment. I think using a heavier projectile should bring down the fps too! Cheers

As always good tests👍 . No one will buy these so dirty Hybrids anymore with tips not very well finished and I repeat they are above all very very expensive💰 .Regards

Haven’t tried the NSA slugs but a good starting point for any slug is between 920-960 in my experience. Sometimes you get lucky and they also preform at slower or faster speeds
@Andrew R I have my Impact tuned to 925 fps with the .22 NSA 23gr .217 Reg at 130 bar, hammer adj screw maxed, power wheel on five, valve adjuster just under four lines. 600mm STX Superior pellet liner. Stock gun with power plenum and without the slug power kit. Five shot group .385” ctc at 50yds. I’m getting laser accuracy with this tune. Did this purposely so I can share the same tune but with power wheel on 2, shooting the H&N Barracuda Match 21.14 gr 5.52 at right around 920 with the same accuracy results at 50yds. The stx superior liner shoots the H&N BM very well, also! Enjoy!
Hi Man, i notice that after some time or some shots, the measurement with caliber of the hummer spring preload changes, became longer and so less power and velocity. For exampe i tune the gun and the size of the preload is 16.40...after some time and some shots i notice less velocity so i take the size and it became something like 16.80, 17.00...does it happen to you too?
I haven’t had this problem myself, but some other people have experienced this . It’s nothing mayor but originally from the factory there is some soft glue on the set screw, once it have been adjusted several times it’s possible there isn’t enough glue left to keep the screw in place . You can put a very small amount of bleu loctide on the screw or I have seen some people put Plummers tape on it
This result may not be just for barrel harmonics because the best result should be seen in one target and they should see the nod period and the best result with ctc below half inch in 50 yard my at44 after harmonic tuning in best speed 820 ft/sec at 50m ctc 15mm with jsb 18.13 grn in 27ft / lbs Good luck
@@Airbuks In the case of air rifles there is a harmonic barrel, but since the shock caused by firing is not a large component, such as a gun compared to air rifles, but on a smaller scale, I think the mass of the projectile is the most It is effective in balancing the twist rate and achieves the best accuracy at the most appropriate speed with good sf. I use Sterlock software to get the best SF and often the result is very useful.
Can you do a test? With maximum speed instead of taking pressure off the hammer to lower the speed, can you slowly increase the pressure of the regulator to lower the speed of the slugs? You will have a surprise;)
I don’t get where your heading with this . Those 3 factors have to be in harmony to work efficiently. If you put to much Regulator pressure for the given hs you will get inconsistencies . Remember I am not looking for maximum power ?!
@@Airbuks It is possible to find harmony in both ways. But I prefer to do it for the regulator. I keep going up until the groups are perfect. Not once did I fail to make it perfect. If there is no way to increase the regulator, I will decrease the hammer screw until the groups are perfect. Only then will I see the speed at which it stayed. Gold is always the size of groups and never the power
@Mike Simão I agree. The higher reg pressure will cause the valve to close sooner, giving you a quiet and air efficient gun. A shorter burst of high energy is better than a longer burst of lower energy. Great point!👍🏻
I just got my M3 and your videos makes the experience better informed and enjoyable. Thanks!

This result may not be just for barrel harmonics because the best result should be seen in one target and they should see the nod period and the best result with ctc below half inch in 50 yard my at44 after harmonic tuning in best speed 820 ft/sec at 50m ctc 15mm with jsb 18.13 grn in 27ft / lbs
Good luck
Not 100% sure what you mean , can you explain somewhat different?
@@Airbuks
In the case of air rifles there is a harmonic barrel, but since the shock caused by firing is not a large component, such as a gun compared to air rifles, but on a smaller scale, I think the mass of the projectile is the most It is effective in balancing the twist rate and achieves the best accuracy at the most appropriate speed with good sf. I use Sterlock software to get the best SF and often the result is very useful.
I understand now 😉 I also use StrelokPro
May i ask. After finding the best fps on your fx do you re-zero your scope?
Yes of course 😉
Thank you for your response. I hope you'll have a video of how to properly clean airgun barrels.
Beautiful...
How cost it is?
Thx 👍 but I am not a shop . For the price you will have to check with your local FX dealer
Actually tuning with equal temperament is much more precise
What do you mean with equal temperament?
Hello, where can we downloud this target ? thx u
Contact met at airbuks@icloud.com and I can send you 👍
Can you do a test?
Mike Simão thx for the tip 👍 I will try it that way aswel
@Mike Simão I agree. The higher reg pressure will cause the valve to close sooner, giving you a quiet and air efficient gun. A shorter burst of high energy is better than a longer burst of lower energy. Great point!👍🏻
Wow, is that your backyard ?
The one of my parents 👍
hey buddy when you're gonna hold a give away on your chanel 😊😊
I am thinking about , have to look for some products 👍
@@Airbuks okehh brother👍👍
Olá amigo, gostei muito do vídeo, sou aqui do Brasil , like 148, forte abraço.
What a funny grouping!!
Barrel 600mm or 700mm?
This is a 600mm barrel
Ap xa bao nhieu ma gia toc cao vay
Better get EDgun. No harmonic tuning is needed as the barrel is tensioned like a string.
I had Edgun’s and love them 👍 but I can’t keep all the airguns I buy 🤷♂️
💚💚💚💚👍👍👍👍😍😍😍😍
good..how money..
Take the crono off that rifle when testing for accuracy .. it messes with the harmonics of the gun.. like a muzzle break.
I know but I shoot mostly with the chronograph. And the final test was without the chronograph 👍
@@Airbuks Throwing targets at 5 km assembly
ابو ريم ??
@@Airbuks How many meters of assembly is the right of groupings
ابو ريم the test with the power wheel was on 50M and the finale test was at 25-50-75and 100M
Привет! По русски понимаешь?
ROBOT TALK HAHA
Haha my 100 y groups are slightly worse and that’s standing on a tripod.
Then you got some skills mate 👊
The javlins r better
Yes indeed , But at the time of filming this the Javelins where not available yet 😉
The impact of slugs are very far..
? I don’t understand what you mean
