just putting this out there because I know someones gonna say it: YOU DONT NEED A FANCY DRAWING APP TO MAKE DIGITAL ART! I even drew my character in MS friggen paint to prove this. Oh and also, if you're reading this (yes, you random furry in the comments) your art style is phenomenal and you're a great artist. thank you for attending my ted talk.
This actually helps a ton. Though it's not fully based on color, this helps a lot with it, I didnt know how to mix the color and shadows. The background stuff also helps a lot, because I suck at backgrounds lol.
I was actually drawing as I watched this, and looking at my completed drawing, all I can think is, "Wow. When do any of us, as an artist, know what we're doing? I just experimented with the airbrush and a purple shade for highlights." Seriously, thank you for this. None of us know what the hell we're doing when we draw, but that often means finding a different style without realizing it. I don't know how to say it. But yeah. Thank you again for this!
I liked what you said at the end because it really made sense. One can always improve in their craft as long as they continue to practice with it. I look at my drawing from over a year ago and I can see the difference as I improved. It just takes time and I think you really did touch on that nicely be saying no one becomes great overnight, because anything worth doing takes a lot of time and effort to become great.
Dang, that last part almost made me cry. Even though I'm always told that everyone makes mistakes, it really doesnt seem that way half the time. Idk why but it's a lot more reassuring hearing it from you. It's really good to know that I'm not the only one that has absolutely no idea what they're doing :')
Damn, this will help again a lot of people (including me). That last motivational speech, if you wanna call it like that, really cleared up my mind about questioning if I'm actually improving or not, but thanks to that, I'll keep trying, and to everyone who sees this, again, keep trying and most importantly, keep drawing. Awesome video as always Zill!
It's really amazing but crazy how much hard work you do in your pose and even if they look a lil wonk you fix it some how to a point it looks AMZING or it looks right. I enjoy how your words make this a learning but interesting to watch and lern in a away to be motivated. Best part is how some artist can relate to these pain you suffer.
Tbh it’s exactly what I wanted to see and I been having some problems ever since .there is sometimes I feel like I want to give up but I knew that I can’t give up now because u can always improve even if nobody knows how to be better artist but just u know u can’t just be a good artist overnight but like zillionross said “it’s hard but we have to push through because that’s what good artist do” it takes time but we all know that we as artists can improving! And thank you zillion for making this video it’s amazing and I realize that I’m not only one who’s having a struggle.
this video was such a nice thing to see! i’ve really been struggling with artists block lately, be it a lack of confidence in my art, as well as simply not knowing what to draw. so to hear you, someone who i look up to as an artist, say that he has no idea what he’s doing half the time, is seriously inspiring and uplifting! whenever i find myself having artists block again, i’ll be thinking about what you said here. thank you for making this!!!!
20:23 Every great artist, musician, writer or mind began from zero or nothing. I think once i stopped myself from being a child and accepting my mistakes and repeat what i did, and if failed, i would do it again until I felt it was better, I just grew disappointed and unmotivated, but once a wise mentor said to his apprentice I was not satisfied with my results because they're ahead of me, yet perfection is not a state of material nor quality but a pure and solid strength of motivation and will for learning and healthy improvement.
I've been making art for almost 5 years now, and I agree with literally everything you just said. I guess being an artist just comes with a free inferiority complex in the package! But that doesn't matter, even if it's difficult and it hurts, you keep going, you keep doing it day after day, because looking at your creation ~when you don't hate it~ is the best feeling ever! And because that's what your favorite artists do. And thanks to this video, now I have the actual confirmation for one of them. Love your art, love your videos, love your humor. Let's keep going man.
this really hits me, and i think it hits a lot of people too. i always have those thoughts of "what am i even drawing?", "does all of this make sense?", "am i really improving as i draw more?" but i still drawing. And thanks to this video, now, i know that i'm not alone with this and i'm hoping and knowing that, one day, I will notice all the progress i've done. Love this video, thanks Zillion
I guess I learned some of that complicated sketching, coloring, and shading but your wonderful speech at the end really touched and inspired me as a young artist to draw more, fail... But to correct and improve... Especially that "No one gets good overnight" really slapped me cuz I watched your drawing lessons and immediately made my own art and think that its good enough to be popular, then posted lt on twitter but only few people liked it and feel that im not good at art and nearly quit but seeing this really inspired me to continue... Thanks!
I just want to type a comment to thank you for encouraging me because: I always knew when I was young that drawing was a hobby of mine, and I drew a lot. but when I was young I had a lot less confidence than now, I got all my confidence from my mother. and at one point I got so tired of looking at what I drew that I stopped, I just didn't believe in myself anymore and thought you must have been born with the instinct to draw well (which is nonsense I realize me now). and now i am sitting today, just opened youtube and got a video on my recommend. and after hearing what you said at the end, I got up and went upstairs and got my old drawing book. I wanted to recall my memories from the past. because okay i was bad and it didn't work, but with my memories i realized again how much fun it was to draw. i got hope and watched your tutorials on your channel and i tried some and compare my drawing with yours and with my drawings from the past. and I saw that it looked better than before. not great but better. So now I have decided to start drawing again, and I am therefore very happy because I realize again how much fun it was to draw. so i want to thank you for motivating me, and not giving up. (even though i know there's a pretty smal chance you're reading this)
you know my heart kept beating fast when I was in 19:26 till the end and omg. You know now I'm getting the right motivation, I'm getting the right answer, I'm getting the things I wanted to know for so long, after this video I now know what's going on. I know everything now. Omg my heart is beating faster than ever after that. Thank you so much for those words cuz not only that it made me feel better, it also changed my perspective and now I won't give up on drawing. I'll always do my best will always try harder than the last try. I'm overwhelmed but still thank you so much for these words and I rlly appreciate it so much I'm actually shaking from these words

It was very energetic ^-^ Anyway bleh bleh its hard talk Ree Ree, i dunno what else type except to say i guess, but hes right when it comes to the fact that things dont happen over night. If there is one person in life that I look up to the most, it is definitely you, Zillion. The little heart to heart at the end was absolutely amazing, and I think the whole process of everything you go through in your art is just so intriguing. I have been watching many, many art youtubers for awhile, and I think that all the different methods and practices are so unique, and this one is no exception. This was wonderful and I will probably remember this video for a good portion of the rest of my life.
I want to thank you for this is just what I needed... I try and tell myself "It's a skill, keep going and you'll get better" but to here it from down to earth and from someone as skilled as you are, it makes a real difference. I just wanted to say thank you because you need to know that it helps.. It helps people keep going on the journey, not just me but many. Thank you.
After watching this video, this makes me feel better about the "improvising as you go along" creative mindset. And playing with Photoshop adjustment settings. Especially those. Glad to know it's perfectly okay to duplicate layers and play with those settings until it looks right. :p
That point you made at the end really stuck with me, an artist tries their best to create something and it not turning out how they wanted happens to everyone. Thank you for making this video.
This video has helped me in many ways than one. I was in a recent phase of feeling that I had lost all my skill that I had worked hard to get for the past few months, but I'd say that this video has resolved that issue entirely. I knew that top artists like you are not perfect in your ways, and have issues like everyone else; but this video just hammered that fact into my mind. I'm starting to feel so much better when it comes to my slowing maturing art skills. I even downloaded a copy of this video just to watch when I feel, should I say, unworthy/worthless when it comes to art. Overall, this is a well made video and enough of my rambling.
Thank you so much for this zillion I just started drawing this year and i felt so many times that i was not good enough because i have seen so many good artist out there (including you zillion). This video taught me to not give up and just keep drawing! ^_^ Just a remainder when i'm feeling down 19:17
First of all... Thanks Zillion... Thanks a gaZillion times... Me who just kinda thought of giving up on drawing just have a spark that fire my spirit up... I'm so glad to watch ur video until the end.. And I am hecking glad u upload this video for those who is kinda down with their own arts.... Thanks again Zillion... 😊✨
This entire video was both a mood and very educational. Sometimes when I see artists pumping out amazing art almost constantly, I forget that they’re human and that they go through the same struggles I do. Thank you for sharing your process with us, this was very inspirational for me!
This video was truly phenomenal - thank you for showing the process honestly for new artists ^_^ Also a practical note to add for people reading: If you want to make a huge change to the piece you're working on, and you're stressed about 'breaking' it, try switching to a style where you save new versions of your project file before moving to the next step! I'm working on a 3D model and I'm on, like, my 21st project file or something
Your videos, especially the last parts are SOO INSPIRING!!! It keeps pushing me on every time I listen to that, and I think there are more people like this, getting pushed on by these videos. Great content!
step 1: have idea step 2: try to draw it step 3: cry while your brain tries to adjust to drawing after like 5 months step 4: repeat step 3 until success
Thank you So much Zillion!! I didn't understand much of the video as I'm still learning with digital art but your motivational speech at the end made me Cryy. It helped so much like emotionally more than you know!!I haven't drawn in like a year because I gave up:( I'm constantly feeling terrible about my art and incapable , and feeling unmotivated every time I want to draw so I just end up not even trying and just giving up:(( It touched me because all of that is me and that is actually just what I needed to hear! Again, thank you so much and keep being you, keep up the amazing work, I love you so much Zillion.💙💙 I really hope I can meet you at a con one day, That would make me more happy than you know!😇💙
I know u get this a lot but damn that ending speech hit me hard...like I knew no artist gets good overnight but sometimes when you're stressed at an ultimate level u need to be reminded that it's okay to fail cause it's part of the learning process and that it's important to stay dedicated even when motivation is a bitch. I really want to start doing furry speed paints so whenever I'm down I'll remember "nobody knows what they're doing". Amazing video Zillion, love your stuff!
This video needs more recognition, thank you so much you helped me get through my creative blocks through more than just art, even in game design. Thankyou and keep making videos
I definitely relate to making a million layers and trying to group and mask and blend till it looks halfway decent. Especially with my digital paintings. It's so fucking confusing and I have to sometimes turn layers on and off till I know which one I'm on, but in the end, putting that much more effort into it makes it that much more worth it. Keep drawing everyone
Wow. That was really both enlightening, and kind of inspiring. In the back of my head I always kinda had the feeling that some of these processes of people going was “makeshift” in a way but I never really thought about it until now. God damn why does the furry community make me feel more inspired the president quotes?
honestly that's so reassuring to hear that you also don't always know what your doing and it was really helpful to see the process you go through when doing your art as well. I cant state enough how much I laved the last part of the video your an inspiration mate keep up the great work.
I am so happy I saw this video cuz I gave up on drawing here and months but now I feel like drawing often. I am really grateful to Zillion and his honesty. And I am sure plenty of people feel the same way after watching this, let’s keep drawing without thinking too much :3
I'm intending on going to an art school to improve my skills and to (hopefully) become an artist/art teacher. Lots of people have told me how much better my art is compared to theirs, but I'm not where I want to be and I still have a long ways to go before I can call myself decent. An artists worst critique is themself.
Man, I've always found using references kind of hard when it comes to the sketching out the pose ideas, but you give me the motivation to keep trying to improve that. Thank you!
I have been working a lot on perspective drawings lately but, this is amazing how you did this but, I think some suggestions just might help since I have been studying this portion. start with the background first, it will save you a lot of time on making an environment, this will allow you to simply just place the character where you want in the scene. light source first so you can line the shadows with lighting, of course, you can put shadows where want after you have done normal shadow placement to enhance features, it's always nice to have enhancements. with an already placed scene, it also gives a light source for perspective, so no guessing, and this also takes the stress of lining the new environment with the character, planning ahead is very helpful in these cases. You are on track with keep drawing because it is learning processes, I would say studying help me understand the situations but, my line art is bad due to less drawing, and my shaky hands and rushing kills it sometimes. this very helpful and I hope you will try out the suggestion of being a fellow artist.
I'm inspired by the grade school artwork I see in a particular hospital hallway. Some of those kids have a magnificent vision, and they draw like grade schoolers, but they power through it and do it anyway. Only the adults say "I can't draw!"
Well said. I mean, ngl, I do look up to your artwork as I really think it's well done and actually inspiring. Though that last part you said at the end... *That hit deep.* You're right, the more one draws, the more that one shows improvement over time from experience, whether they see it or not. In all truth, I've always believed that there are those who are way more skilled than me, they know what they're doing, and make pieces that quite honestly I behold so much that unbeknownst I'm depreciating the work I put forward, despite the several years I've held both pencil and stylus. It's a wrecking ball of emotions when I, myself, would go through this cycle, knowing everytime this happens, I wave hello to depression. ...but what you said is true: *It's a journey of trial and error.* It's not something that can be accomplished or found overnight, *it takes time, patience, and persistence.* Seriously, *Thank you for posting this.* This was truly needed and you have no idea how helpful and great of an advice this is.
This is one of the best videos I’ve seen on your channel...you help so many people in so many different ways it defines amazing...believe it or not...just another reminder of what you already should know...Thank You Again to say the least and possibly understate it.
Just wanted to say I’m a fan of your content, and a 2 week in furry now. Thank you for you Protogen tutorial drawing, it helped me with my fursona. :) thanks again!
Gosh that was a beautiful video, you may not know what you're doing but wow your doing something, and it's amazing! Inspiration is all I can say when I watch this video, it honestly makes me want to draw lmbo.
Your videos continue to make me seriously consider getting back into art which is saying something because I stopped doing that regularly years ago Very impressive, my furry friend
A new video!!! It was great, your work looks so professional! I've know your channel for almost a year now and I admire you and your dynamics and dedication so much! ✨ 💕 The last minutes of this video actually made me tear up... yeah, we all have the same feeling deep down... And sometimes you feel so shitty and bad compared than everybody else that you just think about giving up. Really, I've been going through a lot of ups and downs throughout my life and my art... I can say that I gave up on my hobby of drawing a couple of times before... But then I get to remember that drawing is one of the things I most love to do and it gives me so much joy and somehow helps me to vent...and there is hope I can get better. Being a negative person..It is tough. Anyways, hehe this comment got way too long, I actually don't comment much on videos... I just got so touched by your words that I had to say it. Yeah, you're not alone! We've all been there! Keep drawing guys! =)
I'm not a furry or consider myself one but I Love your channel. You art tutorials have helped me gain a lot in my art. You make things simple. I would recommend you to some of my friends who need help getting a start in art.
This is the motivation i need right now because very recently ive got art block because i feel like i suck at art because i experimented with furry realism and fur stuff and shading.... so.... yeah Thanks Zillion i reallly really needed this, oh yeah also you are the artist that i look up to Edit: i love your work
I've never vibed so hard with another artist. Thank you for sharing this, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who's coloring process is an absolute cluster fuck, haha. Love you, man. Keep being awesome.
I really needed the motivation part at the end Never in my (for now) short furry artist life a video motivated that much to grab my freaking pen and just rip my tablet even over a entire night Thanks zillion Thanks a ton
for me the way i draw is i get an idea or ask a family member i the hand draw the picture take a pic of that then i go on a website edit then color save as jpeg and done
Woaah I really admire you, I'm a begginer artist that is planning on starting doing digital art as I was plain bad at traditional but I enjoy drawing its just that I'm really bad at it and my parents often scold me for buying art stuff when I'm really bad at it. I hope to be able to improve and your content is really enjoyable
Well I'm glad you want to improve, I know that I spent a good two years with just a pencil and paper. Expensive equipment won't help your artistic sill in the slightest, so I would defiantly recommend just sticking to the basics for a bit
Just a small hint for small and beginner artists - remember that all great artists were NOT born with art talent, people like Neytirix, Mahsira or ClockBirds spent years of years of practice to achieve their crazy talent, they had to develop their skill, use it (almost) daily and challenge themselves with difficult stuff to learn something new. So ye, keep drawing and try new stuff. And if you struggle with something (hands... perspective... ugh...) draw it more! Good skill comes with time, remember that.
Man I just love your art even though I'm not a furry and dont see any interest in it, I love the community it has and love seeing some of the amazing artwork it has especially how your artwork is just some of the best I've seen
We're all in a state of perpetual confusion. Even Mick Gordon, one of the most well known composers for video game music, has stated many times that in this regard it is ok to fail. Many of the things we do, we make mistakes. The important thing is to accept that it happens and learn from it. Be encouraged to try again. Looking back at my own art from high school I'm glad I'm still going
Small artist: I wish I could be like them!
Big artist: *MAKE MISTAKES AND KEEP DRAWING.*
Yep I very agree with that...
Well there is no other way, is there?
mmhmm
Lol. True
=)
How to be a good artist, in a nutshell:
*Try... Fail... Repeat until something eventually comes out good*
Also add mental breakdown in between, and question "I've made it?" at the end and you've got my picture.
Yup yup yup! 😅
Zillion in 2017: self-deprecating humour
Zillion in 2020: motivated and motivating
I mean, I still self deprecate, but now there's more of a blalance
@@ImaginativelyUnimaginative life must have a blalance.

Aww thanks for complimenting my nonexistent art!
Awe thanks! 💚

That point you made at the end really stuck with me, an artist tries their best to create something and it not turning out how they wanted happens to everyone. Thank you for making this video.
1:12 Ehy, that wasn’t unfortunate.
My art brain:
90% ideas
20% motivation
-10% skills
Thank you so much for this zillion
I just started drawing this year and i felt so many times that i was not good enough because i have seen so many good artist out there (including you zillion). This video taught me to not give up and just keep drawing! ^_^
Just a remainder when i'm feeling down 19:17
First of all...
This video was truly phenomenal - thank you for showing the process honestly for new artists ^_^
Also a practical note to add for people reading: If you want to make a huge change to the piece you're working on, and you're stressed about 'breaking' it, try switching to a style where you save new versions of your project file before moving to the next step! I'm working on a 3D model and I'm on, like, my 21st project file or something
Missed that intro
I dont know why but that speech in the end was the most honest thing i ever heard from an artist.
Another Great Video!! I'm sure this will help a lot of people
It's quite a relief to know there are actually people that also have similar habits to mine when it comes to drawing
That speech at the end is just, amazing. Thank you Zill, I'll keep on going.
Your videos, especially the last parts are SOO INSPIRING!!! It keeps pushing me on every time I listen to that, and I think there are more people like this, getting pushed on by these videos. Great content!
KEEP *DRAWING*
That part touched my heart
How to go through the creative process:
Step 1: Press F3+N
MaKeWolf
Knew someone was gonna say that
step 1: have idea
step 2: try to draw it
step 3: cry while your brain tries to adjust to drawing after like 5 months
step 4: repeat step 3 until success
@@kitthegit3037 bruh this is literally my drawing process for everything I make. I'm not even joking-
Ctrl+Z
@@kitthegit3037 better said then what i typed in 🤣
40 mins of my life gone 😔
This gives me more motivation to keep drawing and not giving up this actually made my day :)
And I am sure plenty of people feel the same way after watching this, let’s keep drawing without thinking too much :3
Isn't weird that my brain gears labeled "imagination" only work when I am at school, but not at my own house?
Boredom is a fuel of imagination.
@@PanRokador
Guess that's why my school notebook is full of doodles.
This is by far my favourite video made by you! This helped me a lot, thank you!!
I'm intending on going to an art school to improve my skills and to (hopefully) become an artist/art teacher. Lots of people have told me how much better my art is compared to theirs, but I'm not where I want to be and I still have a long ways to go before I can call myself decent. An artists worst critique is themself.
The previous video i was watching work GREATLY for this
Man, I've always found using references kind of hard when it comes to the sketching out the pose ideas, but you give me the motivation to keep trying to improve that. Thank you!
Purchase half-life 3 deluxe edition and get Zillion Ross’ finalizing a drawing part 2 with the game for free!
Did he just give the most motivating speech I've ever heard?
*That hit deep.*
You're right, the more one draws, the more that one shows improvement over time from experience, whether they see it or not.
In all truth, I've always believed that there are
those who are way more skilled than me, they know what they're doing, and make pieces that quite honestly I behold so much that unbeknownst I'm depreciating the work I put forward, despite the several years I've held both pencil and stylus. It's a wrecking ball of emotions when I, myself, would go through this cycle, knowing everytime this happens, I wave hello to depression.
...but what you said is true: *It's a journey of trial and error.* It's not something that can be accomplished or found overnight, *it takes time, patience, and persistence.*
Seriously, *Thank you for posting this.* This was truly needed and you have no idea how helpful and great of an advice this is.
The ending of this made me cry.... Thank you, Zillion, I needed to hear that.
zill's voice here sounds more toned and calming. idk why but i like his voice more in this video than the others.
I did a lot of audio work to get it crisp thank you for noticing!
Also seeing good artists making mistakes really motivates me. Nobody's prefect - we all make mistakes. We are all just a people afterall.
This is one of the best videos I’ve seen on your channel...you help so many people in so many different ways it defines amazing...believe it or not...just another reminder of what you already should know...Thank You Again to say the least and possibly understate it.
Thank you so much Zillion.. This video was exactly what I needed to keep pushing myself forward!! I will get better at drawing!!
Just wanted to say I’m a fan of your content, and a 2 week in furry now. Thank you for you Protogen tutorial drawing, it helped me with my fursona. :) thanks again!
Thank you so much, you helped me a lot with all your drawing tutorials. You are very inspiring and thanks to you I started doing art again.
this is so inspiring I am going to cry. I needed this, thank you
I actually learned a bit more about what I can do do in this video, thanks for this. Brought me some sort of direction as to what I need to do.
Gosh that was a beautiful video, you may not know what you're doing but wow your doing something, and it's amazing!
Inspiration is all I can say when I watch this video, it honestly makes me want to draw lmbo.
That speech at the end sounds like a mix between a TED talk and a DARE speech.
It was sweet though.
oh now I know I'm not the only one doing all this stuff every time with layers wow
I think I’ve learned more about drawing from you than I have from school, and I have a good art class.
Thank you for sharing your process!!! Oh jeez, that end got me in the feels
The speech at the end, it was amazing!
It really hit hah,
Thank you, and wish you all the best!
Your videos continue to make me seriously consider getting back into art which is saying something because I stopped doing that regularly years ago
Very impressive, my furry friend
Public speaking 101. It's always a pleasure to listen to you talk.
Damn, that video was well made Zillion, it sure did help a lot. And for that, I would like to thank you.
I'm not a furry or consider myself one but I Love your channel. You art tutorials have helped me gain a lot in my art. You make things simple. I would recommend you to some of my friends who need help getting a start in art.
Bro how does this guy always get me so hyped up to draw ! p.s dude your always inspiring me everytime I watch one of ur vids thanks for that :)
This is the motivation i need right now because very recently ive got art block because i feel like i suck at art because i experimented with furry realism and fur stuff and shading.... so.... yeah Thanks Zillion i reallly really needed this, oh yeah also you are the artist that i look up to Edit: i love your work
I came in here looking for advice; I came out with a shit ton of inspiration. Thank you, now Imma go cry.
I've never vibed so hard with another artist. Thank you for sharing this, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who's coloring process is an absolute cluster fuck, haha. Love you, man. Keep being awesome.
My drawing tablet broke yesterday day and I'm Binge watching these kinds of videos till my new one comes in the mail.
I feel a bit like a stalker-
I really needed the motivation part at the end
Never in my (for now) short furry artist life a video motivated that much to grab my freaking pen and just rip my tablet even over a entire night
Thanks zillion
Thanks a ton
When I listen to artist when I'm drawing some how it come out wonderful.
for me the way i draw is i get an idea or ask a family member i the hand draw the picture take a pic of that then i go on a website edit then color save as jpeg and done
Wow, this is so much more work than I could have imagined. Respect O.o
This is good to listen to when you yourself are doing art
Idk why but you voice is just nice to listen to
Jesus this is a good video
I usually take hours just drawing and most of that time is practice and sketches(i ran out of papper) And this is why u use digital ( infinite paper)
OMG same. when overlay doesn't make it bright enough so you overlay on overlay again and just make it work 😅
Man I just love your art even though I'm not a furry and dont see any interest in it, I love the community it has and love seeing some of the amazing artwork it has especially how your artwork is just some of the best I've seen
