  • Ep.6 - Alone In The Yukon
Skote explorer Matty Clarke explaining life in the woods behind the camera. Taking some time to spread out from the cabin and see other parts of the area. Spring comes in the form of a Grizzly bear. Luckily the trusty side kick Ronnie did his thing and scared ol Yogie away.

Hi, I recently read a news article about your situation, and watched all your build videos. I respect what you created and did some builds similar myself when I was younger. Time passes. I am recently being asked to relocate a historic cabin and was researching techniques. Some people move them in one piece. I'm not sure what the details are of what you are up against, but I had the idea that during frozen times things can slide, and in the summer the river is the access. The logistics may not be practical, but what about an ice-proof house boat. A convex shaped ' barge' would float on water and rise out of the ice as it froze and still be able to be moved. Maybe a platform between two cylindrical pontoons could support your cabin, a deck and some greenhouse space. The cylinders would either have to be of a large enough diameter (living space if insulated) to float everything above their midpoint or have an internal heat source to make the ice lift them as it forms. I don't know what the legality of houseboats is up there, but it's just an idea I had. Sometimes large diameter fiberglass tanks come up for sale as salvage. My brother bought one 20 years ago, I think it was 8'x 20 ' ribbed with rounded ends, he lived in it before he built his house. The long dark winters can't be easy, I wish you good fortune.

@@charlesfullmer4662 well, you're right about that. Societal and government standards say that we have to pay for land and pay taxes on said property. Which is its own conversation because what other animals beside human beings pay for land. We are full of ourselves when we believe we can actually "own" land. There was a point in history when people didn't and we made homes and had the resources like earth, water, air and fire to help us survive like other animals use. He basically just built a home out of the environment but somehow his labor costs him, it's just funny that a man who has to work so hard to live can still be threatened. If you live in a major city with the conveniences that the government provides then maybe you pay more for that convenience but this man literally lives almost completely off grid and has to fend for himself without government aid but they still want something. If you think about it, it's crazy but yeah you're right...you owe something to someone in this life no matter where you are funny enough if he didn't post videos or promote publicly what he was up to he probably would not have been caught so early.

What would stop a whole town from doing what he is doing? Yes it doesn't seem that big of a deal but rules are rules and if people find out that those rules aren't enforced. Well, we can only imagine how that would go. The only thing stopping a cult from forming there is to get rid of him before it's to late. And we all know what happens in cults. Anyone who joins him will see him as a leader. That's exactly how a cult starts

Also I disagree with your premise that it was someone else’s land. In case anybody hasn't heard, the Canadian Gov has discovered this series and is going to try to take his cabin down. Very unfortunate but this is what happens when any government types see people trying to get around the restrictions and regs that have come into existence. It happened in the last couple decades in the remote areas of Northern California. Refugees from the big cities went up there and moved onto abandoned mining claims. They fixed up old cabins and lived the Back To The Land dream for several decades. Pretty cool in my opinion. Unfortunately the outlaw peops got too far out and growers got too wild. Fires became a problem, forcing the local enforcement types to go after the inhabitants. Bulldozing the cabins and moving folks out of what was once a good thing. Very sad. Just Ask the members of the band Hippy Chuck and the Rusty Pipes up near Hayfork, California.

@@Eileen49654 Could not agree with you more Eileen. Here in the states it is called squatting. It can be very difficult to get freeloaders to leave. There is a park right down the road from my house that had a man living under a bridge. It took them several months to make him leave. There is a part of me that thinks it is really cool living off grid. However, a responsible person will buy the land first before he or she starts cutting all the trees down. The human population is completely out of control with wild areas shrinking by the day. Meanwhile, this dude is going to cut down trees and make a house on public property. It is so crazy that people can not see how selfish they are. Hopefully they can repair the damage he did.

@fartyboots--LOL:) Pretty sure you're going to end up losing that battle:) As much as I approve of the lifestyle, common sense should tell you that the entire earth doesn't belong to you. There are a couple of national parks in OR and WA that would offer an incredible scene to "claim" as earth belonging to me!! I would love to start chopping down the trees and building structures, but I would fully expect the NPS to have a huge issue with it. As they rightly should........
