- 'Stop The Cavalry' is a song written and performed by Jona Lewie. In December 1980 the single reached third place in the UK Singles Chart. In the Netherlands, the top spot was number 9 in the Dutch Top 40 and number 6 in the Nationale Hit Parade. The number appears regularly in various end-of-year and Christmas hit lists.
Nowadays the song is mainly seen as Christmas hit, but was not composed for that purpose. It is actually a protest song against wars. It contains only one line with a reference to Christmas: 'Wish I was at home for Christmas'.
This video was recorded by TopPop and broadcast during the Christmas edition of 26 December 1980.

Ok, i can understand why the brits love this. To be honest i like the song very much indeed. But it makes no sence to me. Firstly why a beebee gun? get a real one or none at all. Secondly this is clearly about WW1 in France, so why mention Churchill? He was Lord of the Navy or something and didnt have anything to with the euopean theater until WW2.
Jona lewie wrote the song about all wars. Thats why he mentions a nuclear fallout 😮
