  • The video talks about suffering and how Buddhism approaches it. It argues that suffering is inevitable in life, but it doesn't have to define us. By following the Buddha's teachings, we can learn to accept our suffering and live a more meaningful life.
Jordan Peterson uses the Buddha's story as an example to illustrate the concept of suffering. The Buddha, who lived a sheltered life for 29 years, encountered four messengers: a corpse, a sick person, an aging person, and a lonely person. Witnessing these messengers for the first time made him realize the inevitable suffering of life, including death, illness, aging, and loneliness.
The speaker also dives into the concept of trauma, and argues that there are minor traumas that we experience in our daily lives that can also contribute to our suffering. The speaker explains that according to Buddhism, we tend to dissociate ourselves from these painful experiences, which prevents us from healing.
The speaker proposes a different approach. Instead of dissociating ourselves from the pain, we should accept it with curiosity and mindfulness. By being mindful of our pain, we can start to understand it and learn from it. This process is not about getting rid of the pain, but rather about learning to live with it. The speaker uses the metaphor of a “relational home” to describe this process. By building a relational home, we can create a safe space for ourselves to process our pain.
Overall, the video offers a hopeful perspective on suffering. It argues that while suffering is inevitable, we can learn to relate to it in a healthy way. This can not only help us alleviate our own pain but also make us more compassionate towards others.

To live is to suffer. But to survive is to find meaning in the suffer

I'm astonished that JP doesn't have more of an interest in Buddhism. All he talks about is suffering and religion, but he isn't curious about the religion that teaches about suffering.

Thanks for honoring my freedom of speech.
As a preacher of religion, Jordan wants you to buy the story that you suffer because you sinned.
I suggest that we suffer because suffering is natural for all animals ... including human animals. And just as other animals cause each other to suffer and die ... as human animals ... we also cause each other to suffer and die.
It's way past time for our species to outgrow those archaic religious stories as being childish nonsense.
From the book … STORYTELLING … author … Brad Jones
This book is about the primate Homo fictus (fiction man), the great ape with the storytelling mind. You might not realize it, but you are a creature of an imaginative realm called Neverland.
Neverland is your home, and before you die, you will spend decades there. If you haven't noticed this before, don't despair: story is for a human as water is for a fish--all-encompassing and not quite palpable. While your body is always fixed at a particular point in space-time, your mind is always free to ramble in lands of make-believe. And it does.
