So, I loved this interview and respect you both! That said, I am a Lisbon fanatic and do not totally agree about the too busy city thing...There is so much more to Lisbon than the touristy quarters and everything is better outside them! We will have a car, but not drive in Lisbon...Park it somewhere outside and use only for roadtrips! The vibe in Lisbon is so great and I've never felt more at home or good there! I've lived in the French countryside for10 years and traveled around Europe for 30...I understand living a calm, lovely life outside of the rat race, but Lisbon is nothing compared to Paris or London or NY so for me it issomewhere in the middle and just takes my breath away!! All I need are good shoes and I just ordered 5 pairs!!!

Great to read your view point. Where in Lisbon to you live? Lisbon is on our list to stay longer during retirement. Just looking for a nice, safe place with good heating :-) and access to public transportation. Car can be there for a longer trips elsewhere. Enjoy ability to stay in a quiet place, but still walk to neighborhood cafes, restaurants, parks, etc.

2 - You get it. You understand what we really, really love to do on our channel. We love to listen to people's stories and give them a space to tell it. It's been very interesting interview people that have UA-cam channels because often times it can be difficult to go backwards in time and explain to your own audience where you were and where you are now and why. Olhao is a fishing village which is now becoming more tourist oriented. Really good fish market. Been going to this area for a while so they each have their benefits. Good job for your short time there. Also, a car is almost necessary.

I reviewed the questions several times before the interview and I peeked at them one more time before we started. The interview-style we've switched to is kind of circular so I just followed that train of thought as we got going and I just listened to Nick while he spoke and just tried to keep us going in this transformational circle interview approach that follows a storytelling journey. A few times, in my head, I thought, "what's my next question", but I just got out of my head started listening again and then it came back if that makes sense. I'm really glad that so many of you all liked it. I'm just learning how to do interviews so in person again is a bit wild for me. 🙏 - Josh

I wouldn't recommend the Algarve. I live here. Because of Expats, Digital Nomads and greed; we now don't have any production, just tourism.
This made rents almost impossible to pay. Locals don't have where to live - there are several examples of people sharing homes by the dozen to be able to afford shelter.
Also, the wage is crap and it's not matching inflation.
Most of my friends already left - I'm also planning on moving, just so I don't have to die homeless.

Algarve is less portuguese every month and more and more filled with foreigners that buy the houses that portuguese people can't afford to restore. Not to mention the sons and daughters that leave the place to find a job opportunity that is NOT in tourism, serving tables, etc etc or even out of the country. Tavira as multiple houses in reconstruction and nearly 90 % of them are all of foreigners that bought them to live there the retirement ( british, sewdish, danish, french, etc ) . In Lagos a lot of places even welcome you speaking english because the owners don't even know how to speak portuguese. That's a disgrace. That is not funny, that is a representation of a decadence of a country, not a state of cumbaia of people moving and living happily in other place, wile the ones hat are from that country can't even get the opportunity of living there at all and have to sell what they have to foreigners that buy it with they retirement money to spend the rest of their life at the sun, with tax benefits given by the portuguese Government , things that the portuguese don't even have in the first place. well, honestly, Nick should have *led* with that *car tax loophole* when the topic of automobiles and the *26% tax* levy came up. I mean, *what??!!* nearly fell off my chair! and Nick seems like a very nice man. but not only is the wealth gap widening *all the time,* in nearly every place in the world - but *COVID-19* has made those conditions far worse, exponentially.
and as he asked *why* Josh and Kalie didn't want a car, as if he couldn't even *imagine* why not. and he was also talking about having a car, as if if everyone can easily afford one. even though he mentioned that *26% tax* and whatever those other fees or taxes that he glossed over very quickly. but he was VERY clear about how, overall, *Portugal* is *THE MOST EXPENSIVE* place in Europe to buy or bring in a car [aside from that loophole, which he also glossed over.
and he did say that percentage had been, incrementally [there's a specific schedule?] or over time, it been reduced, randomly..but really, what does any of that really mean, exactly?? it's at 26% right now? or it was but it's *less* than that? and, of course. I get we can look certain things up - and i research a plethora of things all the live-long day, *every* day. it's just that when something gets mentioned, with details an interviewee seems to know about [and who is someone who is *already* living life abroad], it's nice when they can be clear about *just what it is, exactly, they are saying.
in any case [and I know this is long], there's really some kind of serious disconnect there [living there, one of the 3 things we need at home "is a pool?"...which means *my* 'pool' will likely have to be the ocean - luckily, I'm attracted to the coastal areas]...and for someone who says he really wants to help people coming to Portugal - also, that he's from South Africa, too? I would hope he'd be a bit more 'woke' & compassionate towards the less fortunate, meaning, towards relocating ex-pats who are on a budget.
and I have no idea his financial status, of course - none of my business. but the way he was talking, sounded like it might be a more ideal situation for him offer *bespoke* kinds of helping services - for high net worth individuals and families [like the *Capitalist Nomad* channel guy does - although not saying the same kind of services, necessarily]..which could also include investors/new business owners. that could possibly really work out for him, as he clarifies, for himself, his focus, his target demographic.
I mean, at first I thought: wow, he might be a really great person to seek out when In Portugal - and I know I said a lot here but I still think he seem like a genuinely nice person. it's just that, at this stage in my life, I think I'd feel quite uncomfortable, reaching out for assistance/services from someone who seems a bit tone deaf..to the financial parameters of those who are not wealthy.
because I'm not gonna lie: it was kind of uncomfortable to see Nick, appearing anyway, to be so confused about why Josh & Kalie did not plan to buy a car.🤦🏾‍♀️ although, Josh handled that moment so professionally, so very well!👍 which, imho, is why he & Kalie are both a naturals, at doing the awesome work that they do.🥇🏆🏅
