Through a massive effort lasting five years, more than 9.6 million poverty-stricken people were relocated to new settlements with better housing and living conditions. However, this was only a first step. If poverty-alleviation through relocation was to be truly successful, more needed to be done. Only by developing industries and providing education and healthcare could poverty be rooted out, once and for all.
The documentary "Out of the Mountains" has two episodes in total, and it has aired on CGTN. Check out the second episode to learn how relocation for people registered as impoverished is not only about better living conditions but also about chances to get rich.

Mushroom farming is really sustainable, requires only small area, fast growing, high yields, grows all year round and can be integrated in vertical farming.
I need to learn how to grow edible mushrooms. Not to become a farmer I just like growing my own vegetables. If it's really a fast growing and high yields crop and vertical farm that's what I need in my limited space. Thanks for the info.

President Xi was severely criticized in Western media for his extravagant 1 trillion yuan spendings on poverty alleviation in CHINA which they called him out as CPC unsustainable development model. However it is a tiny pittance when compared to more than 13 trillions US dollars spent on military spendings at home and abroad in regime changing the Ummahs including more than 2 trillions US dollars spent in Afghanistan alone.

People might think this is just propaganda but I've seen many many really beautiful resettlement villages free for the poor living in hazardous or arid terrains from ordinary people's vlogs all over the country. Some of them are much more beautiful than the ones presented in this CGTN program. Also, if you look at China's map, you could see almost half of the country's land is big mountains, deserts, plateaus, grassland... not very habitable for human beings, so China's poverty is very much geography related, which is why there are so many resettlement villages.
Even if half of it is propaganda - China has still done more for their people than any other country I have ever seen. The US could certainly take lessons from China! 😎

It's very very very very difficult to take 1 million people out of poverty, much less 850 million people so for these efforts and incredibly hard work, I salute Mr XJP as this is his mission n vision from the 1990s to present day.

Yeah, my province is one of the wealthy coastal provinces. Cities in my province are paired up with cities in those inland less developed provinces, especially Tibet and Xinjiang, and we are obliged to aid them in a so called pair aid program, like building new houses and villages for them, building and investing in local industries there, sending in volunteers to be teachers there, taking migrant workers from there or help training them..... despite direct funding from the central gov that is our tax money too....We don't get to keep our money for ourselves...:-( The new houses, industries you see in this video is our money...

All the humanity of the world seeked, seeking & will seek for the development & reform in life BUT their systems made them different- forget about political ideologies: some nations are prosperous and some others are in hell with problems and poverty. I have not seen any other nations in the world apart from China whose government has understood its people by identifying their basic problems and has addressed through practice relocating from the harsh living condition to a good condition providing all livelihood supports like housing, jobs, education; health care facility at the same settlement! All other human satisfactions come after these basic needs. CPC & its leaders of all levels and their government units are in a good harmony working for the same objective of the nation! This seems amazing for the people like us who have never experienced and realized such services provided by our government! I wish Nepal's rulers could learn this from close-northern- neighbour's good governance and dedications of leaders from there.
