My first bike was a 1979 Yamaha YZ125. I was 10. Since then I have ridden in super stock class, owned cammed and race suspensioned GSXR's, ZX7s, and a few Harleys and now have a Monster. I learned more on that YZ125 than all those bikes combined. I still think the perfect place to start as far as handling skills is a dirt bike.
I started on a mt07, i saw and still watching allot of videos about techniques and defensive riding. I think its just, the person who buy a motorcycle in my opinion has to know the basic about how an engine works, better saying, know what a clutch does🤣. My weakness its turning in tight places, i worked my ass off for years to buy my bike and i will do everything to not drop it, if i hade some more money i would buy an second handed 125 to do tight gymcanas but its not possible so. Agree with you anyone can start on anything, but have some knowledge about trail breaking and what target fixation is. Keep up! nice video!
@@8alakai8 im just afraid to drop my bike man, i worked 10 years to buy mine, and it depends some days im a little off my head and on those days i ride more easy more safely. And getting license here in portugal they just say your ready even when your dont feel ready at all, i did my exam and everything ive been learning is just watching videos and train in safest roads
@@8alakai8 Another thing is that mt07 is a little bit clancky compared to others that i ride sometimes the throtle is so sensitive and shes really only likes higher rpms to go smoothly, its a very torquish motorcycle in low rpms. mt09 for example is way better even with more power its more friendly
Started on an R7, it’s not fast, but it’s quick. Know your clutch, respect the torque. Best experience I could’ve asked for. Now on a Panigale V2 Bayliss, world of a difference, all thanks to the R7
Started on a 2023 ninja 400 until I got in a hit n run. Just got a gsxr-750 and the bike is a night and day difference. I can hit 84 mph in first gear and first gear on this bike is QUICK! Pretty sure it’s like 100 hp difference. I don’t think a 1000 is even viable after throwing my leg over this beast. Nice video. Cheers and ride safe everyone 🤙
For how light the 400 is. I highly recommend starting on a bike like this. While the engine breaking can feel a bit much at times when learning the weight alone will make the bike more fun.
Here’s a question I have yet to get any insight on.. I started riding dirt bikes a couple years ago started on a yz125 literally a week later on an xcf250 then a couple months later onto a fc250 race bike(motocross) then fc450. I’m still comfortably riding a husqvarna fc450 off-road ofcourse. Now I know dirt and street are totally different but I can safely manage a 450, does that still make me starting out street wise on an mt07 a bad idea? I’m really wanting to get on the road and I don’t think there’s anyway I could possibly get a 400 or even 500 without wanting to sell it for something bigger asap.
in the UK, you do your motorbike test at the last day of your training you do a four day course and you go out riding for an hour on your test day and if they think you're good enough they will pass you but there's not very common unless you've ridden before for more than two years on a 125 and you can get teared license a license is your full license and you can ride any bike when you turn 24 and in the UK you can do what's called an A2 license and you can ride anything with 47 brake horsepower or you can get a restrictor on a bike like an MTO seven like you've got like a frost or restrictor and it restricts your speed, but you can still get your top speed but just a bit slower but there's a lot more strict in the UK
For me it's not that it's too fast, but rather the power delivery. I have an 800 NK with 100hp and 60 lb. of torque. It has rain mode which is perfect for learning. Street mode is a bit more rowdy but even in sport mode it isn't a wheelie monster. So, fuel mapping and gearing plays a big part.
I love my r7 but he is right the torque can really take you by surprise, first time I rode my r7 I fully lifted the wheel coming off a corner and almost ate shit, I got lucky and I was super careful after that. Please be safe people.
been riding an F4i/0304 636 for a long time (60 tooth sprockets), love my stock FZ07. I can still wheelie at 5mph (trying to turn circles) on stock gearing/stock idle, and can ride long distance. I do think it could be a decent starter bike though.
I was a very cocky 16 year old rider and convinced my dad to get the mt 07 rather than a slower more friendly bike, biggest mistake of my life the torque was too much and the bike was very punishing and the throttle was incredibly sensitive. It is a great bike just not too keen on newer riders, dont make the same mistake as me 👍👍
duuuude love the camera settings. any chance i can get those from you? love the vid btw looking at getting an FZ/MT07 myself. just a little nicer than my 650
I switched from a GoPro hero 11 to the DJI Osmo Action 4, and those are the raw settings on the camera, lol. I am using an ND filter, though. The DJI is so much better overall. Check out @CapitainMidlife on UA-cam, he's got some great videos on it
I really want an r7 for my first bike. I’m 24, 6’2” 170. And it’s not cuz I wanna look cool or have a faster bike. I just don’t want to buy an r7 2 months after buying an r3z advice anyone ?
@@raffoc_610 awesome! Thanks for the help! I’m def responsible now. 5 years ago no. But I trust myself to get an r7 and learn without trying to go crazy before hand. Thanks again 💯
@@veizii6096 no problem bro💪🏽. If you buy an R3, you will regret it after 3 months. The R7 will keep you entertained for a lot of time, and then in 2 o 3 years you could buy the new R9 hoping that it will come out
@@raffoc_610 yeah that’s my thought exactly I didn’t want to have to go thru multiple bikes before keeping one for a couple years. And yeah I hope the r9 comes out by then 😭but I want a bmw s1000rr tbh
I started on a mt07 but im 32 years old and 240 lbs, and the bike will still pick the wheel up with ease and that can be uncomfortable for a new rider, let alone make you not wanna ride again for a while but as time goes on you feel more comfortable and get respect for the bike. Best advice i have is to ride your own ride dont worry about what others have/do just enjoy yourself and go at your pace
The only way to have a wheelie on the 07 is full throttle at 1st or full throttle at 2nd with some revving. Same with 3rd but much harder. If a rider goes full throttle at 1st it means he is incompetent for driving anything. Dont spread missinformations like that.
@spiderthenics9462 lmfao thats cool for you to tell me what my bike does and for a new rider that's somthing that can happen so next time keep your dumb ass comment to yourself

@Alphaforce100 the throttle is so aggressive for a new rider it took me like 100miles to get comfortable with it. But sometimes it still surprises me! But it sounds like your not punching your limits and riding to your skill! Enjoy yourself and stay safe!
I started on honda 600rr now have s1000rr bmw and would still buy r7 for the twistys believe me the amount of guys on thousands had no faith in the bends was amazing And I'm by far the fastest Ps honda 600rr very great bike 15 years never let me down HONDA❤❤❤
We’re the same age I just turned 24 last month and I wish I would’ve got into riding at 19 when the pandemic was going on and I had the time and money to learn 😂😂
As a very first bike, thats probably not a good bike. But if you've ridden bike before, like a grom or a dirtibike, then yeah. You can, and should skip the whole 250-400cc class and do this bike.
Yea, it all comes down to who is buying the bike and for what purpose. An 18 year old after a weekend course? Probably no. I wouldn't feel safe on ANY bike in traffic just after a 2 day course in a parking lot. But as you mentioned in EU the driving education and getting license is very different. I jumped straight to the unrestricted category license (as 30 yo.) and it was 10 hours on practice course + exam and then another 30 hours in traffic + exam to get the license, the bike also had to meet minimum weight and performance requirements so we learned on a bike that is appropriate for the license category. Personally I wanted to get an R7, but just around the time I got the license they bumped up the price of it significantly (at least here in Hungary) and it cost the same as an MT-09, so I went with the MT-09 as my first bike. I was nervous at first, but it's very manageable and easy to handle IF I am not an idiot. I only had a few scary moments when I was testing my limits 😅
I totally disagree on many points.... on our german highways you are one of the slowest vehicles lol...0-120 mph its cool but after that the bike struggles to accelerate further. My 370z was definitely faster than my actual MT07 after 60mph. Bought my MT07 3 weeks and 1500 miles ago as my first ever bike and Im already bored of the power lol.... Yes I still need to learn many things especially fast cornering and Im far away from very good biker skills BUT the power of the MT07 is not the problem. Btw its not slow! I have a lot of fun driving it but I guess its a good beginner bike. It definitely doesnt have to much power. Here in germany you are - apart from trucks - one of the slowest vehicles on the highway if you ride 85 mph. But you cant really drive much faster because its a naked bike and it sucks to drive fast on a straight road. I dont regret the purchase tbh.
What was your first bike?
