I was raised in Foz Do Iguaçu, one of the cities (together with Puerto Iguazu) that share the Iguaçu Falls written on that airplane. I have so many memories of that city and also of the falls. Loved the video, also compared to the 777-200ER Business I had with United to São Paulo, the seat, the food, and the lounge look so much better. I am impressed.
Nice video, Patrick! I was just on KLM's World Business Class, and flew long-haul from Chicago (ORD) to Amsterdam (AMS) in June-July 2024. ORD - AMS: I was on a 787-10 in row 6. I got to experience the new Delta Sky Club at Chicago ORD, which was a great lounge to visit! Nice buffet selection, many seating areas, and even a shower I got to use before my 4:20 PM (16:20) flight to AMS. The shower helped me relax before I changed into pajamas to board the plane, as I was intending on skipping the evening meal service on the plane and going straight to sleep. I had fallen asleep at 8:30 PM the previous night and woke up before 6:00 AM that day, and was hoping to fall asleep by 5:30 PM on the plane. Unfortunately, my sleep quality on the plane wasn't good. I was seated across from two children that were watching videos and talking all through the flight, and the parents wouldn't tell them to shut up, even when the lights dimmed. No overhead air vents (+ the noisy children) on the 787-10 meant that I didn't get good sleep, even with earplugs. Thankfully, I brought with a portable USB fan to create a breeze by my seat, as I am a hot sleeper. I slept off and on in 30-60 minute increments, drinking a lot of water when I woke up in between because I was overheated. I ended up getting around 5 hours of sleep on the plane, but did manage to see a nice sunrise on the Dutch coast just before touching down at 7:00 AM. AMS - ORD: I was originally on a 787-10 in row 1, but got swapped to a 787-9 in row 1. I wished I had extra time to explore Lounge 52, but got stuck behind someone in line arguing with the hotel receptionist (at a nearby airport hotel) when trying to check out. There was only one hotel receptionist, and I finally got to check out 20+ minutes after waiting behind this person. The wait (+ missing my train from Hoofdoorp to Schipol) added 30-40 minutes to my travels. I finally got to the airport just before 11:00 AM, and my flight was at 12:20 PM! Security was a breeze, and I got through check-in and immigration in less than 10 minutes! I did have enough time to stop at Lounge 52 for about 10 minutes, have a quick bite there, and then head to the gate. The plane swap was a pleasant surprise, as I got extra legroom being in a bulkhead seat on the 787-9 (instead of the 787-10). Instead of a small cubby hole, I had a large footrest area (the width of the seat) where I could spread my legs out when lying down! In addition, the 787-9 had overhead air vents, and I was actually chilly on the plane - so much that I had to wear a sweater both when awake and sleeping! In-flight service was done at a relaxed pace, as the meal service took around 2 hours to complete. No big deal for me, as it was an 8.5 hour flight to Chicago! I ended up getting a beef bavette as my appetizer, the Indonesian "delicacies" tapas platter as my entree, and the cheese plate as my dessert. Everything came to me pre-plated, and the food was delicious! No mid-flight food service, but they did have a pre-landing service as well. There were also snacks in serving dishes near the rear of the business class area, including cheese crackers, stroopwafels, and a few other things. No mocktails on the menu, which I wish they would have had - I do not drink, so having a wider selection of non-alcoholic beverages would have been nice! In summary, I really liked the 787-9 on KLM, but didn't care for the 787-10. While both aircraft did not have privacy doors, the lack of air vents on the 787-10, warmer cabin temperature, and smaller cubby hole in the bulkhead seats made the 787-9 a clear winner.
Nice review - loved the musical section with the clouds. I haven't flow KLM long haul since the early 90s (lol!) - LHR (737) - AMS (747-400) - BKK (747-400) - SYD (747-400) and back again. All economy. Back in the old days when you could smoke (we did) and drink till you went cross-eyed (we did). Funnily enough, back in those carefree days, air-rage was unheard of. No matter how much drink someone had, there was never trouble. Why is everyone so chewed up with vicious anger these days? Anyway, love the vlogs - Have a very happy Christmas!
What a good video. I hear KLM from YYZ to AMS is also excellent, but the Air France from YYZ to CDG is awful. I know these two airlines are partnered up together and are run as separate company's but you'd think they'd offer the same style of quality service. Also I am surprised in the release of this video being released today , but actually filmed yesterday Dec, 21st. Patrick your video's are a pleasure to watch and I'm looking forward to the next video. Merry Christmas enjoy your holidays cheers
Hi Patrick. Just booked KLM 77 business to BKK with points with my girlfriend. We chose the middle seats row 2. is that too close to the galleys? will the sound disturb us? cheers for a great review
i've always liked KLM and Schiphol. True, the walk from the Cityhopper gates to the non-Schengen gates takes you halfway to Brussels, but the terminal design is efficient and the lounges and restaurants are great when it's not too crowded. KLM's premium product is one I've always thought was underrated. Their business class is now better than BA's. The catering is good (although I'd probably be too chicken to order raw fish on an airline flight), the IFE is good and the cabin service is always courteous. I'm hoping Cityhopper will restart LPL soon so I have an alternative to BA when I cross the Pond to visit family. Happy Christmas Patrick, and hope 2025 will be a great year for you!!! 🎅
Interesting that during the war they painted their aircraft ORANGE........as the Royal Dutch monarchy is called the House of Orange..... have a happy holiday....always look forward to your interesting flights..........thanks...plus King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands would pilot KLM planes .....
@@PatrickSheaAviation happy 2025 Patrick! you still have THE best channel on commercial airlines - i particularly like the way you weave the narrative around their history, corporate development, market influences and related useful data. all this, along with a pilot's insider view of air travel and your uniquely hilarious sense of humour make for such compelling, outstanding content - keep up the great work! #bigUPs
An understaffed security area around Christmas time is not a great look for any airport. Doing my first real long-distance flight next year from Dublin, Ireland to Seoul, South Korea, and your videos have really helped me to figure out the most comfortable way (on a small budget) to do that as a fat guy 😁 Thank you for making these videos Patrick! Happy Christmas and New Year to you and yours!
Why didnt you show the dutch meals. Which champagne? In general air france is much more sophisticated. More elegant. And they have a brand new first class cabin.
You are correct about the "Asia" airlines. I have a love/hate relationship with AMS, love the city, hate the airport, much like LHR it's never staffed with enough immigration and yeah, the machines are never on, not that my passport is ever accepted by them no matter where I try to use them. The food on KLM has never really impressed or offended me, however, that Indonesian dish looks great, the second meal not so much. I have a series of flights booked with them next years, I look forward to collecting the houses.
Oh wow a video about Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij, also known as KLM. 😉 Edit: The pronunciation is basically “Ko-nin-klu-ca Luke-vart Maats-ka-pay”. You’re welcome. 😊
Not sure I agree fully on your phonetics in this but I applaud the effort. Very hard one to translate to a text that English speakers translate back to what you want it to sound like. especially since there is no English variant of the guteral G.
I am from the US, but my wife is Dutch. I know how to pronounce "speculoos" (SPECK you low-s). You pretty much got it right when you said "speculoos crumble". Bavarois is French... I don't do French. Probably more like "BAH vah wah", though. I once told the family I was eating a "stroopwafel", but pronounced it how I've heard many an English speaking person say it, "S-TROOP waffels". I about got killed. It's "S-TROPE vaffels".
Speaking of Polder, true AMS fans will know that the longest, most frequently used and most recently opened of Amsterdam Airport Schiopol's runways is named Polderbaan😊
And Schiphol Airport itself is located in a polder (reclaimed land) called Haarlemmermeerpolder (former Haarlem’s Lake) at about 6.00m (20 ft) below sea level.
KLM is more elegant and stylish in a clean sober kind of way. The planes are cleaner and and the staff are MUCH more friendly and kind than Air France. Also: the houses are such an iconic touch that makes everyone smile. KLM has got the history too and I somehow always feel that.
@hansolo2121 air france is much more sophisticated than klm. Klm has no first class cabin. Their once de luxe royal class belongs to the past.meals are average no de luxe quality in c/cl When it comes to staff yes i like dutch people in general. But af staff has improved. @ You can't compare first class of one airline with business class or second class from another airline. You compare business class with business class etc. The meals at Air France second class are just 'airplane meals'. Not better or worse than KLM. It's always going to be in part a matter of personal experience, taste and opnion anyway. In my opinion KLM is pure class and staff are friendly all across the board. Not just business class. And the historic blue colour and crown of Royal KLM is iconic. By far the most historic and iconic livery in all of passenger aviation. The closest to time travel you can come. Have a nice weekend!
Thanks for the background research and inclusion. Ya, funny how European hard product exceeds North American product. For a flex business seat, WestJet is 4x $ KLM YYC to AMS. I am 🇨🇦, but I could not afford to support WestJet. No points, no sale, just straight cash comparison, 7 months advance purchase. Need flex for medical. KLM pods look good. Flew WestJet pod YYC to BCN this year, similar pod, no pocket door. I Like your content.
Happy holidays and a happy New Year Patrick by the way the oldest airline in the world KLM alongside counterparts in East Asia from South Korea and Taiwan Korean Air and China Airlines really put to shame partner Delta Airlines. If you want to travel outside of the US across the Atlantic European airlines but Pacific Ocean the top rated Asian airlines including KLM Partners China Airlines Korean Air the exception to it is Philippine Airlines
Bro has speed run editing skills 😂
quite a great history lesson regarding KLM. safe travels

I like the silverware

KLM business class vs (its partner and owner) Air France business class. Which is better?
Air France solely for the food, the new 350 J cabin is super nice too on AF
Of course air france
More elegance

only in 720p? ☹
Lot of 'typically Dutch' but I miss the onboard coffeeshop with soft drugs. Also very Dutch😀
Do you spend millions per year to fly every day in business class?
Feels like it... although much less in reality considering how much I fly economy...
What you said about klm asia is true, but its not necessary anymore. Nobody knows why it still exists, both KLM and KLM asia fly to taiwan and china
Good to know. Thanks
I don't know about Air France, but KLM is definitely improving. Five years ago they were rubbish.
KLM is still rubbish
San Francisco, once a beautiful city has now been destroyed by years of Mismanagement!!! So SAD!!!
Wikipedia....
Welcome back man
Hi Patrick Second Request Could You Try To Fly On United Airlines Los Angeles To New York UA2445 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner
Main course looks disgusting, as always. KLM will never improve. They do not learn.
Idk... I still found it better than half of the European carriers I've flown
KLM is not the oldest airline in the world. QANTAS is the oldest continuously operating airline.
20:12, Oh your still learning how to speak Spanish? No way, wow good luck.So your only learning Spanish besides English?
Very boring presentation.
