Oo...weekly harvests for the Garden 👌
Just about to do one this afternoon!!🪱🪱🪱
I would love to be able to do this for my garden
I definitely need to start a worm bin 👍
They are really fun!! I'm sure your chickens would like it as well!!🪱🪱🪱
Once I have a good number in my bin and the weather has warmed up I’m gonna leave my main farm inside my worm cube and I’m gonna start a smaller bag like this and see if I get do the same but get castings once a month. If I get more I be happier but I’m still happy with once a month
That is a great idea!! I would say if someone starts from scratch with a thousand worms I would wait 3 months to get everything full of microbes and aged before I started pulling castings out weekly (or monthly) but if you are starting with an established colony of about 2000 worms and can afford to add several handfuls of worm castings with some new bedding and food scraps then you could easily start harvesting weekly or monthly in a few weeks. My bin has around 4-5K worms is a 20 gallon fabric pot and I really load it down with new shredded bedding each feeding. It's like a conveyor belt, once it gets going strong it just keeps pumping out castings!!🪱🪱🪱
@@Vermicompost I started 20/12/22 inside 1000 and they doing marvellous and very healthy lots of baby worms in there so I think come may or June when it’s warm enough here to move outside then there should be enough in there to mover a few hand fills outside may 200-400 or something at a guess. But will see if worth moving more out for the summer months then I will and move em back in when it starts too cool down but I think they doing so well as inside and in perfect condition no rain warm enough not too cold as house stays min of 10c an max of 22c and heating at 15c for 10hrs a day. So best for them. I know come summer we get up to 25c outside usually but last year was 32 which is too hot so in that case it be better to be cooler and don’t have ac here so will see
I think that will be a good start until you can see how they do with temperature. I just put a temperature sensor in mine this week and it actually hardly fluctuates in temperature compared to the outside. I think this is because it is directly on the ground which helps to maintain the warmer temps in the winter and cooler temps in the summer. Good Luck!! Winter will be over soon!!
@@Vermicompost year winter will soon be gone but atm I think it’s drawing us into a false sense of security as it’s been dry and reasonable temperatures I’m expecting to get a cold snap before the end of the month. Just a feeling lol
😁 It's funny you say that because I have notes from my last two garden seasons that say don't start seedlings before Feb 1...I think I got too excited both years and a frost got my early seedlings I had just planted!!

🪱🪱🪱 Thanks for watching!!
Patrick, do you age out the castings to let the wisps get bigger and cocoons hatch?
~ Sandra
Great question!! Yes, when I don't need them right away, they go into a storage container where I periodically bait out the compost worms and add them back to my bin!! Here is the video of my storage: ua-cam.com/video/WCevZRPuYug/v-deo.html Great question, thanks for asking!!!🪱🪱🪱
Does the worm like granulated sugar?
Yes, you can put that in your worm bin, but I would definitely feed other food scraps and bedding as well!! I hope this helps!!🪱🪱🪱
@@Vermicompost Thank you very much for the information.
What size holes?
These are 1/4 inch holes in this sifter. I find it to be the best size for my needs. Thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱
Abnoxious noise playing the whole time
😂🤣😂 I'll get better at picking music & sound levels!! Thanks for the feedback & for watching!🪱🪱🪱
@@Vermicompost thanks, learning more about vermicomposting and trying to get multiple perspectives
