The Orioles need to move _now._ Whether it be Crochet, Scherzer, or whomever, they can't wait for another team (read _Yankees_ ) to outmaneuver them for a quality arm.
@@Jukeboxster There is no guarantee that he will leave. The new Orioles owner is a Baltimore native and seems committed to doing what is necessary to win. Why would Burnes leave a team that looks like they will be a contender for years for a little more money?

The Rangers may not be ready to punt on the season quite yet...if they continue to go on a run(watching this after they have taken two from the Angels so far and are sitting on a 5 game win streak) if they can take at least two from Houston, they are right back in the race. It will probably come down to the trade deadline for when they decide to buy or sell.

The O's could get everything they need from the Rangers honestly. Scherzer, Lorenzen and Robertson. All rentals so they wouldn't have to give up any of their top tier prospects.
As a Cub fan, if I'm the Yankees or Astros I wouldn't take a chance on Bellinger. I like him but he's not consistent enough. But other teams are free to waste their money on Boras clients.

The Rangers were only on the hook for $12.5 million this year, so that would be about 6 million left over for Cleveland to pay -- if hey didn't get Texas to chip in. Totally do-able. Cubs need to deal both Taillon and Imanaga. Taillon has been damn good since the second half of 2023. As for Imanaga, yes cubs just signed him, but he will be 31 before this season ends and he has the opportunity to opt out after the 2025 season.
Contract is huge overpay. He’s the 23rd highest paid player in baseball and he’s produced 1.1 WAR and and OPS+ 111. It wouldn’t be so bad if he doesn’t have the option for next year also. Nobody wants to pay that much for that little production. Abraham toro has the same amount of WAR in almost the same amount of plate appearances.

The Orioles front office has been adamant about not trading their top 5 prospects, so I could see a Scherzer deal coming to fruition.
