Hey there, actually no I didn't have to - I was thinking about this the next day and it occurred to me I only needed a the small tube and that would have given me more blank to use. Sometimes I get so focused on the task and desired results I miss some key planning steps. Thanks for watching and for the comment. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing this, i seen these style pens before ( somewhat like a kitless pen to me) but as with Bob this is the first time seening it done. Like that chuck you have looks like you could use it to hold the blank close to the end and round it as you need it to be. But that is only a guess....have a great weekend Lynn
Excellent video Lynn, I like the modification and what you were going for. Even though you weren't happy overall its still a pretty awesome project.Regards,Bob
Lynn, couldn't you have used a shorter tube to get more blank to turn? Since you are only putting in the stylus, the tube really only needs to be about an inch long.
Just got to ask Why use the brass tube at all just drill your blank the size of the inside of the tube just to the depth you need for your insert Great video I always enjoy your videos
Good stuff!
Thanks
Curious if you remember where you got that blank material and what is called. Been trying to find one like that. Great project, thanks for the video!
Did you have to use the full length tube?

Hi Robert, you are probably correct, hence the title How NOT To Turn a Closed End Pen" :) Thanks for watching

Thanks Bob - Most of the time I don't please myself. I'll do another closed end video soon. Thanks for the comment
Lynn, what type of chuck were you using on your lathe to hold the dowel rod? Your project looks great and thank you for sharing
Hey Eddie - Thanks for watching it is just a collet chuck set. Here is a link to one. amzn.to/2BvgiaV thanks for watching

Yes I absolutely could have, don’t know what I was thinking
Try thinking about turning it the other way around.
Thanks Frank - hadn't occurred to me. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment.

Hey Jerry, thanks for watching, I have made aluminum pens that way by drilling to the inside diameter. Didn't think of it this time. Thanks again.
Looks like it accomplishes what its purposed to do. I saw you using your bare hand for swarf removal. Remember to use proper phalange protection!
May the swarf be with us all.😊
