Thanks for this video! We have a team approach: traditional & two integrated veterinarians - all working together. We are treating with TCVM - herbs, holistic remedies instead of trilostane. Our 12 yr old Golden still has high cortisol but has shown better liver and stable kidney levels. She is showing some new signs in blood work of possible hypothyroidism & pancreatic issues but no physical manifestations. The main concern is weakness in her rear but we think she has arthritis anyway. She is responding well to hydrotherapy for that.
Secondary to the leg strengthening, we are working on her anxiety that seems to spike after dinner, at which time she gets one Benadryl & four drops of Rescue Remedy by Bach. This usually kicks in within a few hours and if she is otherwise well, sleeps soundly through the night. Recently she picked up a stomach bug (only lower GI) and had to have some potty time early morning but that passed within 72 hours and she’s back to her old self.
I am looking at the melatonin for her anxiety though. I wonder if it might also help to lower the cortisol? Without the rest of the UT protocol? She’s doing well on TCVM so I don’t want to change that. Our specialist there is good with adding the melatonin.

@@larasikora5534 Thanks for asking! she is very stable with regards to her G.I. / eating / peeing / pooping and even her eye issue / Horner’s is pretty much gone that she developed back in early summer. She is still struggling with her hind legs tho and has developed some sores, most likely pressure sores where she’s not as active as she was. These have been hard to heal so she has not been in water therapy for about a month. going on 13 now and we are just happy that she can still walk. Struggles to get up but she is not in any apparent distress.
Of course with the sores on her feet we’ve had to figure out creative ways to still keep her moving so along with cleaning and treating and antibiotics because one of them looked infected…I wrap her feet up with stretch fabric gauze put a little padding where the sores are and she’s moving so much better.
I will say the rescue remedy has been a godsend. I actually tried to take her off to see if she still needed it because she’s been doing so well and she was panicky. So I’m not stopping that. I have looked at CBD but because she does have a temperamental G.I. system - that and melatonin - I’m not sure would be beneficial over poss GI upset. The traditional Chinese medicine and herbs seem to be helping her hold her own. She’s due soon for more bloodwork since we are not treating her with Western medicine we don’t have to go all the time to make sure she’s not going into Addison’s. We just check her metabolic panels etc…
How is that treatment working out for yours??
@@JournalofaWarriorsJourney I actually bought toddler socks with rubber non slip grips and I do his back feet ...I wrap them on around the ankles and under foot at bed time I take them off...I bought a sling to carry him when he's tired...or I'm tired...I'm on my last dose of the Cushings kit and 350mil CBD OIL...I've know his knee caps are popping out of place everything has calmed down I was going to order the melatonin and lagoons..he's 13pds and 15 yrs old this kinda came in like a train so...I feel like nobody knows what they are doing ..the want you to go to a specialist Immediately when I've paid so much for test and blood work and urine...I found out even diagnosed him myself he's a therapy dog and works w me everyday...there are plenty of things you can look into even on you tube even bags for the dogs who drag themselves...it's a lot of common sense to think of things..I have a papillon he's 13pounds ...I'm trying to figure out the best diet..I'm searching I heard organ meats .but he's on small dog freshpet...I wish I could talk to someone I'm scared I'm exhausted...I've got him sleeping through the night...but I make sure we get up one last time before bed I give him his meds on chicken treat wait for him to go on puppy pads if I'm inside...I keep a cup of water on night stand if he wakes and feels the need for water....he likes the fan on and I have a coolmist humidifier it's all soothing at least once a week I give him a nice bath he loves and sleeps well after I don't dry him all the way...help the skin...
Thanks so much for your video....I have been researching all these approaches and would like to try them before considering traditional treatment. What do you find is the life span prognosis is between the two approaches?

Just an update on Pyper. We have one more blood sample to take this morning before she has finished the test for cushings. We have noticed that a few of her lymph nodes are abnormally enlarged. This can happen in cushings disease but can also happen in multiple other conditions.
Would you like us to sedate Pyper and a take needle sample of the lymph nodes for analaysis? This is not surgery. We just need her sedated as it is a fidly job to do. If you are ok with this it may be worth taking an x-ray or ultrasound scan of her abdomen to look for further lymphnodes and at her adrenal glands (the organs involved in cushings disease).
Please let us know if you would like us to proceed with these further investigations today
Dr. Jan, thank you for this informative video. My dog is showing all the signs of this disease. She's about 13 years old. She has an appt. tomorrow with her vet to see if she has this disease.
If she has this disease, I'd like to try the Adrenal Harmony Gold and the herbs you mention. My questions are: How much / dose of the herbs should I give my dog? She is about 50 lbs. right now.? Also how do I prepare them? Do I just add to her food? Thank you for your helpful advice.

Would the same treatment apply if the dog was given too much prednisone? He still has black spots all over his skin and it worries me cause new ones keep popping up. He's off prednisone now but he's on Apoquel.
Are there specific types of foods I should avoid for my dog with cushings? He's been on a fresh food low carb diet (Raised Right brand, turkey) - but I had been giving him a topper of sardine a couple times a week - until I recently saw something about sardines being bad. Any advice is appreciated
I have a small schnauzer cross. The reports of dogs predisposed with DM & CS accurately describes him. Unfortunately he has developed DM, Cushings and pancreatitis. I am having trouble getting him to eat so I can administer insulin properly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Did anyone find out the dosages for homemade remedy suggested by the vet?
My pup has cushing and diabetes for almost a year now. He is taking insulin . He is insulin resistant. The vet wanted to treat his diabetes first and see how then cushing. Is that right?

You don't know what causes it. It's been over diagnosed. Cushings is diabetes. The question is why are so many dogs contracting diabetes?
