From NOTRE DAME STAR QB to UNDRAFTED... What Went Wrong?

- Everett Golson had a spectacular 2014 season with Notre Dame, but ever since then, the Irish have also had many star quarterbacks. To everyones surprise, the best season for an Irish QB since Golson was by their 2021 superstar, Jack Coan. After spending a few years at Wisconsin, Coan transfered to Notre Dame and had a great season, but he went undrafted, but why?

You gotta stop calling every player a superstars lmao😂
He said star
ND fan. Coan was effective for what he was brought in to do- be a bridge from Book to Buchner. He was okay. I don't think the expectations were ever for him to be a "superstar". Also, his OL and WRs didn't do him any favors. Both position groups were pretty subpar for ND standards.
How much I wish we had Coan this season now
As a die hard ND fan, I can tell you Jack Coan was DEFINITELY NOT a superstar. He had a great debut against Florida State and then almost blew half of the other games he started including Toledo. At home. Fucking Toledo
I don't know how you can hold that against him considering he dislocated his throwing middle finger then threw the game winning TD a play later. Any given saturday. You ND fans were too hard on him
I'm a Notre Dame fan and Coan was NEVER a superstore QB. I remember fans BEGGING and even BOOING him to get benched for Drew Pyne or Buchner.
same, the title definently got me turning my head
THIS. He did fine but we wanted drew pyne of buchner for sure
Yep. Me too. 👍
And then He went 11-1 and took the Irish to a Fiesta Bowl and just missed the playoff. Yup.
So mob mentality is always right? He seems to be doing well in the XFL. I always thought ND fans were hard on him for little reason
I saw Coan playing in High School, he trashed us that day, lol.
Edit: 4:36 That's us 😭😭😭
I liked coan. Very serviceable, and the team had a better yr than many expected with him after book left for the pros. One thing this team is still missing is an ELITE QB. A heisman level guy
Coan will start one day in the NFL.
His senior year we were playing his high school sayville and going into half we were leading 7-6 until Cain when off
It’s also cool seeing the teams I have played my whole life
I played with him in PLA, went to high school w him, never thought he was all that special his connections are massive
Coan didn't have a great year, he had a great bowl game. Without the bowl game his stats are very mediocre.
He was decent.
I’m a ND fan and I didn’t even expect him to get drafted
Madison is a great place! A lot of my friends stayed around the area after graduating
As a kid from Long Island it’s really hard to get recruited coming out of that area.
People will never understand the talient it takes to even get to a school
Superstar????? Lmfao
True journeyman Jack coan was definitely good QB. I still think he could still make it in the NFL.
ND Subway Alum ayeyammwhuddayeyamm -- Coan was exactly what we needed at the time btwn Book-O and Buch-O. Without Coanstance, Irish eyes woulda never sniffed the playauffs. The O-Line started the szn terrible and thus went Coan. When the O-Line got the engines warmed up and revvin' so went Coan. As Wichita falls so falls Wichita Falls. I'm amazed to see lil' nummer nine puttin' on the moves as a prep star as dude was quite the bronze bust in the Domer pocket. Imagine if he had a Claypool, Boykins, Fuller, Eifert or Samardzidja as a back-shoulder budsk. Hard to tell what his real potential was but, when he heated up-- he brought the smoke!
While at Notre Dame Did all of that with a horrible offensive line play and coaching horrible coaching at wide receiver
He was never a superstar qb lmao. He was a bridge quarterback who was as average in every possible way as it gets. The dude was okay, but if you’re shocked he didn’t make it to the nfl it’s because contextually you don’t understand him or ND’s offense last year
In the college all star game 2 qbs stood out as being able to withstand a nfl season: Brock Purdy and Jack Coan. Both masters at getting rid of the ball! It’s laughable the jets drafted a qb in top 5 that can’t get rid of the ball now the can’t get rid of him fast enough… Coan will play in the nfl once they figure him out. Purdy was the last player drafted, Tom brady 6th rd, so the scouts obviously don’t get what makes an nfl qb now. You have to get rid of the ball and be able to throwing the receivers open. Coan can do that. Good channel!
Nobody in this base would call him a superstar . If anyone does, they are dumb. Nice clickbait cover tho I guess it got me here
Okay so here's how they do it..They won't show you the box at the bottom right if its unskippable, for awhile because they don't want you to scroll down and look at comments. By the time you've seen the box you've watched half the commercial
when was he ever a superstar 💀
Coan was GOOD ENOUGH. He was very immobile to the point where a grandma had more agility, ND is a top team so he was put in a situation which guaranteed him to at-least win 10 games and the only “hard” game he encountered he choked hard
Would you consider Jack Coan an elite notre dame QB?
As a Notre dame fan he was not close to elite
What are you talking about ? 😂😂😂 absolutely not. He was always just going to be a stop gap. Between Book and Buchner
No but certainly very solid
No
Coan won games...that's all that matters. he was there for one year! ...11 wins! how many were better?? if he had been there for 3 years what would his stats be like ??
There are some thows where accuracy is less important. Basically, throws where the WR can run to get the ball. ex. Go's and Crossers. Coan's biggest problem was accuracy. His throws on timing routes were off the mark, more often than not. His success came on go's, crossers, and screens. Also utilizing his big TE. Not that Coan was bad. He was better than most QBs. Just not good enough to play on Sunday. The windows are tighter, and you have to be able to put the ball in a spot where only the WR can get it. He just doesn't have that club in his bag. If Coan wants to stay in football, he should become a coach. I'm sure it would improve his resume If he can get a year or two in the room with Matt Ryan, Nick Foles, and Frank Reich.
Wisconsin game coan wasn't benched, he got injured. Also, while he wasn't a superstar or anything it needs to be noted just how bad the OL played throughout the season and how poorly the WRs were coached so he would have had significantly better numbers if we had better coaching at those two positions
Jack was an absolute statue in the pocket and was inconsistent at best. No ND fan with a brain had this guy as a "superstar". He wasn't even that good at Wisconsin
really??.. lost the rose bowl to justin hebert and the ducks (who were ranked 6th) to wisconsin (ranked 11th) by one point.
Coan was a superstar? Lol
Keep it up man you gonna get big eventually.
Does anyone know what the name of the background song is?
Scott will you do a video on Detroit Lions QB Tim Boyle
Lmao what do you mean ? Undrafted was always his ceiling 😂😂😂. Superstar is a bit of a reach. I would call him good to decent.
facts ! loooool
I've got a great idea for a video. Mississippi State is the most slept on team in 2022. Leach has access to 4 🌟 and a good defense. Mississippi State is one kick away from being a 9 or 10 win team.
Here's a bit of an update. Watch Tim Brando's take on Crain & Co. He said Archie Manning fell in love with Will Rogers at the Manning Passing Academy.
GOAT
You should do one on Reuben Droughns. The first Oregon running back that started the turn around of the program.
Wayyyyyyy better than Graham Mertz, I betcha they regret not having him this year
great video. but what’s the background instrumental called?
Star QB? Never was he a star at ND. The man has lead feet and is an inaccurate passer. What a joke.
need a vid on gerry bohanon transferring to usf
NEVER thought of as a superstar...please.
I think if Coan played behind a Harry Heistand line, he would of been way better.
No, the OL was going to be bad no matter who coached them.
If he wants to be a good NFL player he needs a decent coach like he had in HS
He said it was the best regular season for a Notre dame qb the title made me click he was no superstar and Ian book was quite better
Can u make a lyn j Dixon vid now that he at tennessee
I think it's going to be hard for him to make the team with that noodle arm
these highlights have the most jogging I have ever seen lol
Who should I do next?
Vanderbilt: The Punching Bag of the SEC
Skylar Thompson from Kansas state
Anthony brown from Oregon
Superstar is way too generous of a description. He was very good, but hardly a “super star”
I watch alot of college football and no one ever said anything about this guy being in the NFL.
fun fact my teachers brother is jack coan
What went wrong is he went to ND.
Why TF are Irish fans so hard on this guy while hyping up Buchner and Pyne, those guys look like bums compared to Coan, JC deserves a spot on a NFL roster and he's gonna use his XFL time well, watch.
Idk y o thought about this but wtf happened to Todd Gurley bro disappeared
“Just short of making the pLyoffs “
They had no damn business being even considered
Typical media hype for undeserving notre dame teams
They finished 11-1 with some really good wins. At the end of the day the schedule wound up being underwhelming and no, they didn't deserve to get in. But to say they had no business being discussed isn't accurate. They were the first of 2nd team out
It amazes me how low IQ people are when they try to analyze QBs. Coan has great accuracy, timing and field vision. His weaknesses are 1.) His dog poo arm strength and 2.) He's a statue in the pocket
he has great arm strength...if you want to last in the NFL you can't run as a Qb.... Coan's only weakness is he needs to be quicker with his check downs. Give him some NFL snaps and he'll fix it.
@@omalley6144 He has a poo poo 2/10 arm strength for the NFL. His arm is weaker than Bailey Zappes, Mac Jones, and Taylor Henicke's. His arm is weaker than Christian Ponders. The only guy that comes to mind with similar arm strength is Cooper Rush.
He definitely wasn't that good, coming from a ND fan watching Coan in the offense was like watching paint dry.
He was never going to be an nfl guy
Give Jack time he throws. Dimes…
Who else is here from XFL
Book>Coan
nothing went wrong, he wasn't on draft boards
Who the fuck thought coan could play in the nfl lol tons of film on the dude and he ain’t it
Who is that🤣🤣
Coan was never that good fans always wanted Buchner over him
VikingswininGodisJesus
Chargerswinindevil
Star QB not even close what do you people see I know you see yards & some TD’s but clearly the system clearly the hood line hood rec & terrific RB did the work for him, as a a pro I see no escapability, with huge size that = easy to grab & sack can’t run for a first down & very average decision maker just isn’t a pro rec & clearly shouldn’t have started I don’t know if his parents paid kelly to play him but both backups deserved to start over him, he got pulled so many times for the backup & for a good reason. The backup who played the Purdue game came I & won the game then he didn’t play again it’s like what did he do wrong not to start after Purdue but they would shove him in when trailing trying to clean up clans mess not fair, but hey whatever you could see ok state was gonna win that game cause coan was horrible but I guess I’m the only one said he starts 2nd half you’ll lose & they did
GodisJesus
Bro Coan was JAG. Mediocre physical tools outside his actual size. Superstar?? Do a quick search of who in CFB actually qualifies as one cause it wasnt JACK COAN
Was never a star
Superstar QB lol give me a break
Jesus is the lord and savior
Jack Coan a "superstar"? Literally every Notre Dame fan hated him last year. I biggest for Drew Pyne for the entire season. Coan was a cement-footed choke artist who constantly made dumbass decisions. His stats are meaningless to me because most of them were just volume numbers padded I garbage time and against our bad opponents. Ian Book was better in literally every way than Coan was.
right lmao?
