Nice! These are fun little bots. I just grabbed Meltdown but haven't opened him yet, but I also have Kannibal and Blue Crab (male). All the parts and accessories and the combined mode make these among the most fiddle-able of the entire line. Only score I would disagree with is the transformation, which I'd give a 3 for its simplicity. I'd like to grab one more male crab, but Iron Claw is starting to climb up in price and Overkill and Frosty are prohibitively expensive at this point.
Sweet! Those are all good ones; you're gonna love Meltdown. I agree about the fiddle-ability; obviously the one overriding factor for Beastboxes is, they have to form a 2" cube so they can't really "scale" consistently. So it's really cool to have certain figures like this one that functions as both a robot animal and a mech vehicle. Wish they'd make some more in this style. Believe it or not I keep eyeballing Kannibal and Frosty, but yeah - the latter is a chunk of change (Iron Claw is basically off the market as well)... ultimately I have to ask "how many of these damn things do I really need?" 😁
Some people complain about overly complex transformations, and others find that more interesting. As far as my Box Grade, it isn't weighted toward transformation complexity (or lack of), but more or less how well it works: do parts fit together securely, does it fit smoothly in its Box Charger, that sort of thing. At some point I may do a deep dive video to explain in detail the reasoning behind how I rate these. But then again.- if rated against simplicity, imagine how this would go for most of the earlier ones. 🙂 Appreciate the comment!
@@XMattingly For me the beetles hit the right mix of ingenuity and fun, not too simple, not too complex, not at all frustrating. If the crabs didn't plug in securely (looking at you kitty cats) I'd dock them point. Same if they were frustrating or overly complex.
As for "how many do I need", not sure if you mean the crabs or BB's generally. I've been grabbing one of each mold and remold and am trying to stay away from straight recolors. In the case of the crabs, the combined mode justifies the doubling up IMO, just as with the monkeys and doggos. But I did think this would be a nice little filler line. I just noted that I am coming up on the 2nd anniversary of my first purchase, and I've just passed 70 Beast and Mega Boxes. I'd be thinking about an exit strategy but I think what they've released recently has been pretty phenomenal.
@@misterdarwin I love the beetles, though I only have one. Demon Dart has a _fantastic_ 3rd/jet mode. As far as the cats? Yep, I reviewed one and so far it's my lowest rated.
"How many do I need" re: crabs. I'd like to get one of each mold, but my headspace is somewhere between "get an interesting new design" and "get this one, because it's _really_ cool". Essentially, I'll buy whatever, if I like it and I think it's worth the money. But yeah, those extra gimmicks like the piggyback mode _definitely_ sweeten the deal. 😎 Congrats on two years of your addiction! ✌😆🎉🎈 Funny that you mention... I just passed two years a little over two weeks ago, but you got me beat: my collection is a little north of 60 figs. They keep coming up with cool stuff, so yeah - it would be hard to make a clean break. 😅

Funny thing is, I had _assumed_ Iron Claw was a male & vice versa since certain crab species’ males have oversized claws (I’m thinking specifically, fiddler crab), and it was only when I was writing this review that I noticed differences in the mold… including the underbelly. And that’s amazing… 52Toys’ designers are practically zoologists, and IMO one significant thing that sets them apart from regular robot/alt mode transformer toy makers.

I bet most people would agree with you! Personally, I really can't separate these out: all three that I own definitely had a strong "desirability" factor for me... but yeah, Meltdown _REALLY_ is an attention-getter!
