I live in Mexico. It's not celebrated here except for in one town, Puebla, where they defeated some French invasion way back when. Otherwise it's a total non-event here. It hyped up in the US by Jose Cuervo and Corona etc.. But fun is fun....
Our independence day is September 16th.

Corrrrectomundo; it's a made up commercial "holiday" that no mexican outside of the U.S. cares in the slightest.
This sort of fake celebration really annoys me; but yeah, any kind of excuse to have some fun is deeply rooted in mexican culture

Jimmy Carr is the only legitimate comedian --in my lifetime-- to come to St. John's, Newfoundland.
Jim Gaffigan had a show scheduled here and it got canceled the day before it was supposed to happen because of flights, we got over 80 inches of snow in less than 24 hours on the day he was supposed to do his show here. (dubbed "snowmaggeddon". which I always hated that people called it that, but, ya know.)
