One thing I like about the first Hellraiser movie is that it’s small scaled, but hints at something bigger.
Much like Resident Evil 7 in that way
This is a great observation.
I heard it summed up once as a British family drama, but with the addition of supernatural elements. And thats a great way to boil it down.
I work in Quality Control for Pepsi, and the batching room gets hellishly hot when doing hot washes of syrup tanks, upwards of 200 degree water charging through 2 tanks at a time and with the room being rather small, it’s pretty unbearable in the summer. There’s a window that separates the lab and the batch room that steams up badly when doing this, so for fun, we write or draw on the steam covered window. I once wrote “Help me I’m in Hell” from part 2. Needless to say management made me break out the windex to clean it off. They weren’t impressed and clearly not horror fans 🤷🏼🔥
They prolly didn't understand the context. Also hot water works wonders on soda syrup.
Ha ha, that's awesome. 🤘
FASCINATING FACT - Hellraiser was filmed at a house in Dollis Hill, North London.
Just around the corner from the house I grew up in. We had no idea what was going on at the time. But when my Dad rented the movie from the corner shop years later, we were shocked 😄
Hellraiser and Hellbound are not only 2 of my favorite horror movies but 2 of my favorite movies period. I've been collecting the figures ever since I was a kid.
Nerd
Nah lol I basically do the same thing
Agree. This is one movie where the sequal was just as good as the first. I wish new world allowed them to have the intended budget for hellbound. It was supposed to be much bigger than it was but they cut the budget half way through.
Same here. Freaking love them. I hate when people dog the second one. It's soooo good!!
Cmon guys Andrew Robinson played Garak on Deep Space Nine one of the best characters ever conceived!
Hellraiser And Hellraiser 2 Are Still My Two favorite movies.
Jesus wept
The original will always be my favorite 💯... Clive's books are a fun read.
How about that "Weave World" (OMG, the Rake, amirite?!) and "The Great and Secret Show," eh?
The 2022 version has the closest version of "Pinhead" based on the book, but people still lost their shit. Fun fact, the guy with dark hair moving the mattress who flirted with Kirsty is the same actor who played Peloquin in Nightbreed.
In the book Pinhead is known as The Hell Priest. The Engineer is a different being that makes the torture devices for the Cenobites.
It's actually a great book, especially when you read so many more details about Frank and Julia.
How Frank is pretty much a Nihist, living for experiences and pleasure, and couldn't stand the boredom of regular life.
Julia was drowning in her unhappy marriage, you watch the movie again, and you can tell how much she hated having dinner parties for example.
@@molasorrosalom4846 Clive Barker is an amazing writer.
Andy Robinson also played the serial killer Scorpio in the classic Clint Eastwood movie Dirty Harry.
He was also Elim Garak on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
He is awesome in DS9
Still makes my skin crawl almost 40 years later
How do you mention Andrew Robinson's TV career without bringing up his character Garak on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine?!
Hellraiser 2 is the best sequel
I love HR films 1-4; all the rest after that were kinda meh. I think the new 2022 version could have been good if they introduced a small segment background story of the new female pinhead and well just had much better writing because lets be honest it was really bad. The make up, cast, and sets were very good.
5 is much better than 3. 3 is the worst of the ones with Doug in.
Man I remember seeing a private screening of Hellraiser in Miami before it was released. Still love the movie and Clive Barker and his works.
Great job covering it.
My issue with the new movie was the main characters lol. I just didnt like them at all. The main chick was annoying to me lol. Otherwise, i actually really enjoyed it. And see the bad guys metal bits woven throughout his body was pretty cool. The actress who played pinhead did a good job too. Obviously not better than doug bradley, but def better than tge other guys.
Id also think it would be cool if we got a movie about the beginning of the Cenobites and a Pinhead origin movie. I know we got the memory part in one of the movies, but i want more lmao
Clive Barker novels are the most immersive I’ve ever read
The first 3 and the reboot are the best the rest trash
I know Stephen King has a ton of fans, but for me, 1980s horror was all about Clive Barker.
This video is more about the adaptations of Clive Barker and Barely has anything Hellraiser-related a fan of the film wouldn’t already know. Last 3 minutes are where they explain what the actual differences are.
2022 Hellraiser was goated I like that and the 1987 the most.
Doug wearing a Prequelle shirt makes me so happy
TBH, a few of the direct to DVD movies got back more to what Hellraiser was all about. People messing around with the box
Probably the greatest horror of all time. I just wish Clive would be allowed to write a new entry. Aparently he wrote a scrip for new World back in 2013 but they didn't do anything with it. Would he amazing to see Julia and kirsty back
Mr. Barker hated that "Pinhead," (a name he did not come up with and despised vehemently) became the center of his fans' appreciation, so Mr. Barker killed who movie fans refer to as "Pinhead" (a name coined by the make up effects crew on the set of "Hellraiser") off in the novel following "The Hell Bound Heart." To be sure, Clive hated what Pinhead had become to fans of his work, and wanted that character gone so the fans' focus would center on what he intended to begin with. TL;DR: film studios were not about to let Clive destroy THE cash cow of the Hellraiser franchise and so they don't care to entertain notions of a storyline without it. Money talks. Clive Barker walks. Hollywood squawks.
One and two are great. Night breed is quoted often in my large family
The first 2 are good. Frank is HOT!
You did a disservice to humble old Garrak
The Hellbound Heart sequel, The Scarlet Gospels, also reveals that it takes place in the same universe as another Clive Barker story, The Last Illusions, as it includes the character Detective Harry D’Mour, who was played by Scott Bakula in the Last Illusions movie, which Barker wrote and directed.
Yes, in addition Harry DMour comes off kind of as John Constantine in a nutshell. Like a supernatural detective.
I’m about 3/4 of the way through The Scarlet Gospels now. Is there any other Barker books that includes Harry D’Amour? I saw Lord of Illusions when it came out.
@DigitalGamingSaga yeah, just look up harrys name, he's in a bunch. Kind of like Bogart meets Constantine it looks like. Ive never read any of them.
Only watch the first two.
The Hellbound Heart > Hellraiser
Barker pandered heavily to the horror film industry of the late 80's and left it a slightly mediocre, low-budget "experience" that the source material exceeds greatly.
Wouldn't it have been so satisfying if they had done an extremely accurate, 80's period piece adaptation of "The Hellbound Heart" 15 to 20 years ago, when practical and CGI effects were in harmony?
Instead, we got the modern mess of a series that calls itself "Hellraiser"...
The original premise for "Hell On Earth", the main villain was to be Julia with Pinhead/Hell Priest doing his background work 7 popping up to finish things up. Claire Higgins refused to reprise her role & we then got the re-written version that was released. Pinhead/Hell Preist & the Cenobites were never meant to be antagonists/villains for the films, just the ones who stepped in to finish/clean things up for what the main villain started, including said villain. Would've love to have seen the series play out on its original premise. I feel making Pinhead/Hell Preist into a main villain was the first nail in the coming coffin to the series.
I prefer the novella. It's more complete, it doesn't have awful Hell puns crowbarred into the dialogue. The cenobites are more interesting. Kirsty works better as friend zoned friend than daughter as the story is about desire. It handles the intriguing concepts better. The film has great art design and Claire Higgins is exquisite but the weird jokes, the unnecessary "homeless person is a demon thing, and the film not being able decide if it's set in Liverpool or somewhere in the States is really off putting. It's still a good film but it's kind of maimed.
This was definitely a classic. The first four and the 2022 version are my favorites.
How did Frank get the dads voice when he put his skin on?
Haven't read any of his books yet, but plan on it. I think that the original was not only the best, but unique & unlike any other horror movie still to this day. It does stand the test of time.
I have one problem.... way too many movies with numbers behind the title... just my opinion
Hellbound was the last good Hellraiser movie, every sequel after Hellbound sucked
I've read the book and seen the movie, this is one of the rare times where the movie seems to do more than the book, the book is excellent but feels like there should be more, the movie gives you the same story just with more explored. With Clive Barker directing the movie it feels like he wanted to make it what he had wanted from the book all along and he sure did an amazing job.
i have every book that goes in the hellraiser line , and the movies also , i cant wait for a new hellraiser movie i want doug bradly as pin head not a woman
Jericho was a great game. It looked amazing as a first ps3 game.
The original Hellraiser came in what I consider the Golden age of horror.
The fist one, loved it, like a good f
Must say I wasn’t crazy about the “remake” on Hulu….. too dark…. And why do movies nowadays have this “pasted on” fog effect…. What happened to fog machines?
I enjoyed 2022 a lot. But, yeah, damn it was dark. I turned up the brightness onmy TV to the max but still had difficulty seeing everything.
I wonder what that 6 year old is doing today.
