    A lot of people (myself included when I was a kid) always seem to think that Adam holds the sword with the blade flat facing the screen. If you carefully look at the sequence, he doesn't do this and actually holds it edge-forward (as you would if you did pull a sword from your back). The camera moves down to a 7 o'clock position after the transformation, and looks up at He-Man from a lower position. Due to this angle, it looks like the sword is being held flat towards the screen, but it really isn't. Statue companies and artists get this wrong quite a bit as it is only Adora that holds her sword flat side towards the screen.

      I always knew the Sword of Power was being held with the edge being favored to the audience, as it was on the back of the Masters of the Universe Panini sticker album...and I think I traced that image SO many times as a kid! :) - The reason that many companies have chosen to show the face of the Sword of Power is because when we were working on the BCI DVDs back in 2005, Emiliano Santalucia re-illustrated that pose for the accompanying artwork - What he didn't know however is that his illustration would not only be reused over and over again, but also be used by the license owners as a point of reference for licencees...hence why we never see the sword held as it was in the transformation sequence...:)

    I have always loved transformation sequences in comics, cartoons, anime, and tokusatsu. In general for superhero stories it is so great to have that moment where the hero goes from their mortal or ordinary form to their heroic one even it’s something as simple as Clark Kent doing the shirt rip to reveal the S underneath.
    I still get a charge when I watch the Adam to He-Man sequence as I did when I was a kid. Thank you for sharing this footage and letting me see in great detail one of my favorite transformations of all time.

      It IS crazy that even after all these years, the transformation sequence, a short piece of DRAMATIC animation, can still stir up some very powerful emotions! :) - I STILL get goosebumps when Prince Adam raises the Sword of Power in "Into the Abyss"...:)

      @@cerealgeekTV I noticed that this and the transformation scenes in the '80s Incredible Hulk cartoon are very similar. Prince Adam doesn't tear out his shirt and boots, though, his outfit just changes. I never understood how others never figured out Prince Adam was He-Man. I guess that's the suspension of disbelief thing!

    For the first time in years, I analyzed the transformation frame by frame (what I would give for low-compressed HD...) and discovered that there was even a "live action" shot in this patchwork/collage. You really stimulate research :D

      @cerealgeekTV  10 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, the live action (of clouds racing by) behind He-Man's "I Have The Power" and the Cringer part of the Battle Cat transformation is rather fantastic - The plume of smoke that surrounds Cringer prior to the power blast striking him is one of my favorite bits of that sequence! :) - Filmation were no strangers to creatively using live-action - See the introductions of both Blackstar AND Ghostbusters...:)

    Yes! The video I was waiting for! One of the most, if not THE most, iconic cartoon stock sequence ever, imo.
    Look at rawness. It's gives a more of a "actual drawing" look and it seems jumping off the screen. Simply fascinating. And you're great at presenting it. As always, I should add.
    However, it is very true: only when you try to remake the sequence you realize how many small details there are. Details that only artists who work by hand can add, adding that touch of their personality. This video would have saved me a lot of study time when I remade the intro in the LEGO version. The 2 lightning bolts coming from above are so clear here!
    Robert Lamb was right to keep it in a chest. It's a truly magnificent piece. I hope one day you get your hands on the original negative.
    The problem with behind-the-scenes videos like this is that they're too short. Oh well, I'd tell you the same thing even if the video was an hour long, lol.
