The fact they made the gimbals, battery and other accessories compatible makes this an easy pick up.

Seems to be the latest means to get people to upgrade fast, make the premium parts compatible to swap over. Love the idea, far more value for money.

I would never buy this over my zorro. Thumbers will never prefer this over a game pad style, IMO. This is just a larger radio for the point of being larger, and more power on the RF link.
@@19Jose91 In the sims I can fly better with pinch, that's the reason I think the boxer will fit me better. The 1w power will help me in my long range adventures as well, I was never a fan of adding modules.
Yep after years of Radiomaster TX16S enjoyment and reliability, I'm leaning towards flicking my TBS Tango Pro (which l do love) and getting the Boxer as a backup/travelling radio.
@@copternutFPV 2 months later, I'm loving the Boxer. I went through the skill ceiling I had with thumbing and I love the comfort of holding the boxer with hybrid pinch grip. I'm going to convert my rc cars to elrs and will use my zorro for that!
Damn, I had been thinking I wanted something like the TX12 but with 1W ELRS and better gimbals - Guess I know what my next radio is going to be!
I have a TX16S MKII, TX12 and Jumper T Lite. Ditching them all for a Boxer. I'm glad Radiomaster made a solid in-between. Thanks for the video!

I'll be ordering one immediately to replace my Zorro. I love the zorro (other than the battery life) but I have switched from thumbs to hybrid pinch and I've found it a tad uncomfortable with that grip, so this is exactly what I've been looking for
I use the zorro and love it but it really is annoying having an extra 2s li-ion strapped to the bottom. I have always wanted a tx16 but they are waaaay to big. The tx12 is just too small and cheaper feeling. So I am extremely excited to hear about this and will be picking one up soon. Awesome review as always.

Dude, this is perfect! I've got a gen1 TX12, and it serves well enough, but this does everything better without being giant or terribly expensive as the TX16. I'll probably scoop one of these up next month!

I have the TX12 and find it too small for my grip but love the functionality. The Tx16 looks too big for me and I was about to pull the trigger on a Mambo but the Tracer protocol was not in my ball park. This is ideal for me!! I'm really happy you got the scoop on this one and have "clicked the link in the description below".

Thank you for this video. I've been doing so much reading on how radios and receivers work and whats compatible with what. And trying to figure out what radio I should buy before buying parts and a receiver. There's so much to learn when you have to figure it out on your own

I really like the zorro, it just fits my hand and grip very well. But i cant deny that the boxer is looking pretty nice and it seems to fit a lot of people's needs. its awesome that there are lots of good new options for people!
Wow, as someone who got a Zorro and paid separately for the case, I feel like this is such a better value that I kindof regret my purchase. That being said, I wanted to fly right away, the Zorro was the best option at the time, and I do like the smaller size because I have small hands.

This is exactly what I wanted! Basically a Mambo with ELRS baked in! :D I can finally retire my tango 2. I'm not usually one to pre-order but I don't want to miss the boat on this one.
Why would you miss the boat? Most people buy after something is out of pre-order so it's not like the units are going to run out.

Thats a beautiful radio, the size and form factor far very much has a modern look & feel. I can see many just moving their CNC gimbals over too if they get the non-cnc model, no brainer.
I'm not even going to bother watching any other reviews of this because yours was so good Ian... Great job!

Excellent unboxing and overview.
Reminds somewhat of the FrSky Taranis X7/X9 radios, which were smaller and lighter than the RadioMaster TX16 model. Will be interesting to hear some more after you get some nice weather and some hands-on flying time. Particularly since you have been flying the Mambo and Zorro.

My biggest concern is Edgetx. I'm using a FlySky, which I got because I had gotten a radio with OpenTx, and was miserably over my head. No one in my club could help - they all flew Spectrum. So I'm leary of Edgetx.

Great review! ! Still rocking my X9D and waiting for the perfect replacement. I was going to order a TX16s Mark II Max with the AG01 gimbals but the 250mw ELRS internal module bugged me a bit, now a see a 1 watt internal on this radio! Now I know Radiomaster has more powerful internal module so my wait continues! Either for a pimped out Boxer Max with AG01 or possibly a mythical TX16s Mark III Max with AG01's and a 1 watt built in ELRS! Lol
I got mine today, the Boxer Max edition. I fly large scale gliders. Really wanted the open source, but wanted the Jeti system for it's 915Ghz redundancy/long range. I've got the 915 module coming in next week. The Max comes with the premium gimbals, leatherlike covered hand placements and a carbon fiberesque face plate. It's a real beaut! The other Jeti function that I wanted, is the hall sensor prop placement through their esc...Totally happy with my Radiomaster purchase though.
nice remote, i want it even though i have a ts16s with 01 gimbals.
but i wait til at least summer next year, they probably going to make a more premium version later
only thing i dont like about my current raidio are the menu buttons, buttons are sometime stuck, and you never rly feel you press anything anymore and i only have it for about 15 months now.
the standart gimbals that came with it felt grindy after a few months, granted i learned fpv at a beach.
good to see they left a little more play on the edges of the sys and mdl keys and the buttons next to the screen also look better than the stripes on the ts16s
you are right ! vs the 16s its to expensive with plastic gimbals imho
Excellent video as always. I use the TX16 as a \daily driver and love it. Just a little big for my hands to. I have been looking for an excuse to get a smaller radio and Express LRS. Look at that 2 for the price of one. When I do, I will use the link. I have been watching long enough to know when you recommend something it is gold. Let it flow, Let it flow, Let it flow. When I look at the open radio at 11:40 You should be able to physically swap 2way and 3way switches if you wish. Great review Ian.

Great for quads but the TX16mk2 is still the king for fixed wing. Break out uarts for trackers and a colour screen for yaapu maps.

Yeah this will be my new radio... would of liked 4x 3 position switches and a small (but slightly larger than the one thats fitted) full colour touchscreen on it though.
Was just last week considering getting the Zorro along with some ELRS receivers as a replacement for my DJI Black controller. This will be WAY better to get, as my first RadioMaster controller. Nice gimbal upgrade path available as well.

Oh yea, one thing they really missed here - color touch screen!!! Why not? The pricing is good and I think we all would have coughed up an extra $10 bucks or so to get a color touch screen? (no clue what the color screen would cost but eh...) And only make it with the color screen - in the end you will have less SKU's, less setups and changeovers, parts to carry, etc.. and lot's of sales I am sure.
I don’t often run and and buy new gear, I’m still using a taranis QX7 that I bought 5 years ago when I first got into FPV, but this radio looks so close to perfection for my needs I’m very tempted.
Radiomaster have even gone to the trouble of designing the battery door for routing an xt30 cable from the internal battery pack out to power a large external module. The only improvement I can think of is a fold down antenna but given it’s size I don’t think it will be a problem to leave the antenna attached when I pack it in my bag.
same, I have a qx7 with expensive gimbals so couldn’t justify throwing it out
Nice to see this out in the world now and great coverage as always Ian. No mention of the two headers marked LED under each of the gimbals though, eh? 🤔 EDIT: Full disclosure, I love this form factor too. B&W screen (readable in full sun without eating battery), the right number of switches (so I don't flip them by mistake just holding it), full sized gimbals, and of course the perfect TX module onboard.

Had 2 lil ones and been out for a bit😒 Could I get the boxer.. and a 900M elrs modual.. and use all.. xfire, elrs 2.4, AND elrs 900M? Will the 2.4G and 900M TX work with either rx?! Thanks🫡🙂
@@stickboyfpv4742 no worries, welcome back to FPV! Yup you can use an external 900mhz module like a Bandit Micro to talk to ELRS 900m, or a Crossfire Micro to talk to TBS Crossfire 900m, and use the internal 2.4g to talk to ELRS 2.4g. Each would have its own dedicated RXes since they are not compatible across brands/bands.
If you're just checking out ELRS though, I would try just its 2.4g stuff first, since the range is amazing and you might not need ELRS 900, and then you can keep the Crossfire external in all the time for you existing stuff. The handset model setup saves which module to use.
@CapnBry Thabks for taking the time to respond! I like the T 20 gemini... but no port in the back to slap in a x fire mod or elrs mod..! And I dont reaallyy need that for the extra amnt of $ for Ive only ever had rx/tx probs like 3 or 4 times with og equipment..!
I am hoping that RM is paying attention and will add the 4 three position switches you asked for as well as smoother top button movements. I pre-ordered(your link) when this video dropped and am hoping that the production version will have these changes

Damn! My Zorro JUST showed up this past weekend. Unlike the Tango 2, the zorro isn’t as pincher friendly, but does seem like a solid unit. The Boxer doesn’t seem that much bigger.
Really is a great size radio. I wonder how it will do with heat with the 1 watt.

It's crazy how you were just talking about your "perfect radio" on your Livestream the other week and now they conveniently come out with this radio shortly after. Lol. Another thing, not sure if you do or not but if you start doing giveaways/raffles for your Patrons I believe you will get more people to sign up. I will say that is why I subscribe to JB's, Dan/TweetFPV and UAV Tech, but just a thought. Cheers Mate! 🍻

Nice radio but i prefer the TX16S Max. I like the larger color screen for running yaapu telemetry. If only they made a radio with larger color screen, ELRS, 4in1 and a full sized JR bay so I can plug my crossfire module in.
If I didn’t already have: qx7 + dji v1 + t lite + Zorro I’d order one today…

If just the gimbals would be flat with the case… I always hit the case with my index finger, especially on roll to the left. That‘s why I still fly the Nirvana since the only radio that has flat out gimbals is the TBS Mambo…
I was thinking of changing from Crossfire to ELRS with the Zorro. I may just pre-order this instead. Too bad they don't have a 3 receiver bundle like they do with the Zorro.
Hey great review, love your channel! ! I just ordered the ELRS internal because I thought I heard you say that you could use that one with crossfire too?? I have tx16s and Xfire mod but want to try ELRS. So am I correct in thinking that I will be able to use my Xfire mod with the ELRS version of this?? Until i build my next quad with ELRS receiver.

Can u do a footprint compare against any other box radios u have laying about . I fly dji controller1 now looking for potential other options . X9 felt too big and game pads feel too small

That looks like the perfect radio! Are the gimbals further down than in the tx16s? That was one of my main issues with the tx16s - i solved it by using gimbal spacers, which might not fit here?

Just got my boxer, It's nice but I wish someone made a radio with fullsize gimbals that isn't so thick and heavy. The erognomics on the DJI rc remote (the one with the big touch screen) are great.
Also did your carry case also come with this super strong smell to it? I don't want my radio to take on that smell so I won't be using the carry case.
Radiomaster please make a high end game pad radio similar to the new frsky x twin radios and one with a small touch screen. I’d like a nice high end game pad that is a bit easier to transport in a smaller backpack, thanks.
Tx16s is great but my one issue is the shoulder switches are where i naturally want my middle fingers to go. I have massive hands so its a very real concern but its not something that has bothered me THAT much
So I have one question for you - what am I supposed to do with my Mambo now!!! JK, kind of, I am really loving this radio and is an upgrade to the Mambo - but not one important enough or performance related enough to make a switch so the Mambo is still in the race - their new gimbals are a bit of a disappointment - I was hoping for "AG01 Clones" but instead we got gimbals that come with some high quality grease that are really poorly named! Dumb, but it did look like the grease was good so, eh...
And TBS - Let's get Edge TX on our Mambos already!!! We bought the radios and have been patiently waiting but now it is overdue for sure...
I could have been persuaded to migrate from my Zorro to the Boxer for the better gimbals if they hadn't traded 3 of the momentary pushbuttons for one more 2 position switch. I use all my momentary buttons, so losing them is a major downgrade in functionality for me. Yes, the bigger battery is nice, but the only time I've ever run low on Zorro power is if I forgot to charge before flying. For me, the larger battery is a nice-to-have, but the extra buttons on the Zorro are necessities. I agree that the cheaper Zorro/Boxer screen isn't as nice as the TX16s screen, but if you're doing your radio programming mostly on a laptop, the radio screen isn't key functionality. You can't look at the screen when flying (FPV) anyway. The inclusion of the gimbal protectors and the case with the radio is straight up Awesome. If I were on the fence about going with this one or another radio, it would definitely make the decision easier. That was genius on the part of their marketing team. Only thing that could have been better would be to include a lanyard as well.
I would have loved to see inside the case cause that had been the first point where Radiomaster had disappointed me. Maybe a chance to look inside during the livestream
What a year for the Hobby, all the FPV systems and the break through of ELRS on top some great drones and exploding shipping costs in contrasts for all the planes at least and exploding regulations everywhere.
At the end a huge progress on the tech, but also a lot of downsides. But just an impression when I realized that the year is over cause sunday will be the last pre chrismas live stream - if there will be one.

I’m not actually sure there is any downsides to the faster packet rate,L with regards to range.
I don’t understand why RadioMaster insists on having two USB C ports, and in particular the charging one on the bottom. Personally, if I’m at the flying field all day, or spending a lot of time on the simulator on my computer I want to be able to charge and comfortably use my radio at the same time. Yes, this one has “up to 20 hours of flight time” - at what, 25mW? If I have it at full power, I bet the actual battery life is less than half that, which means I could feasibly want to charge while at the field.
PLEASE RadioMaster, make the top USB port capable of both charging and data. Allowing charging on the top of the radio won’t inconvenience anyone who owns it, but keeping charging at the bottom of the radio only absolutely does inconvenience people who want to use and charge their radios.
Get a second battery pack or angled usbc adapter or cable, easy fix.
@@audiogek it's not that easy though. A 90 degree usb c adapter still sticks out of the bottom of the radio, which rests against my stomach while flying, which isn't very comfortable, so that's out.
I could get a second battery pack, but then I'd have to take the time to pull/swap the battery, and if I'm flying far away that's not really an option.
So it's not really that easy of a fix. And I'm not going to strap another battery to the radio like the Zorro suggests. To me, that's a ridiculous stop-gap solution for a manufacturer to have.
I'd be totally fine with it if there were two USB C ports at the top of the radio. It's not ideal, as it really should all be able to run through a single usb c port (I mean, laptops can charge at 100+ watts over a single USB C while also transmitting data, so it's not like the connector can't handle it).
I would genuinely pay an extra $50 on top of the $500+ I already spent on my TX16S MCK *just* to have proper USB C charging and data through the top USB C port.

Im so glad Radiomaster jumped in when they did. They are absolutely destroying it with everything they do. My only gripe is I wish they let us purchase the metal faceplate in different colors for us to buy separately and customize our radios
To be fair, the handle would be the first thing to change. I'm sure there will be custom handles out soon on thingyverse etc. Also, it's not that hard to customize your radio. Look skins, you'll find some
