I lived in Sarasota when I was in high school (early to mid seventies) It was a sleepy beach town. Great place to grow up then. Lots of memories.

I’ve been living in Sarasota a long time. It has definitely grown a lot in the past few years. For context, in 1982, with many fewer people, driving in season (Nov-Mar)was a nightmare b/c it lacked infrastructure to handle the extra traffic. The 90s were probably the ideal time here with improved roads and not as high full time population. Overall I think it is a great place to live and just remember: no matter where you go, there you are.

Sarasota is a relaxed place, it’s beautiful, a little more active and expensive than Venice, but it’s not for young ppl. It’s for people who are married and settled down, great place to raise children, and have family. Good place to vacaction. It’s not for people who are building careers and their lives, and want to be more out and active. I’ve lived there ! 😊

I am thinking that many of the negative statements are not unique to Sarasota. During the pandemic and with very low interest rates, real estate prices skyrocketed throughout the United States. I am from Michigan and currently live in northern Michigan where home prices more than doubled and rent more than doubled so there are the same
complaints. Even Detroit that is always in the top five most violent cities in some areas during this time the price is increased for hundred percent.

That's very true. Thanks for the insight into your area for comparison!

I’ve come to learn people only leave reviews when they are upset with where they live. It’s very rare that people go out of their way to review something when they are content or happy. Almost every city on these types of websites are below 3 stars lol. Even if the cities are the top 10 to live in the US, which Naples and Sarasota both are.

All the negative reviews are true. I bought 9/19 in the Rosemary District, 8 min walk to downtown sarasota which is why I bought there. A native New Yorker I walk everywhere but watch out for the cars cause they are not watching out for you. It’s very hot in the summer. I like it part time but I’m here full time for now. Actually too hot to enjoy a walk not much shade. Restaurants are fair, coming from NY I’m a foodie. Ppl are old if you are single especially a female pick’n are none. Prices have doubled everywhere around and in Sarasota- my condo doubled so has electric, maintenance, insurance and assessments- getting unaffordable for ppl on a fixed income who would retire in Florida for its affordability and weather. Florida is now an expensive State. Average nice home $400k plus when a short time ago it was $250k plus. If NY wasn’t in such a decline I would move back I miss the seasons. Not happy here. PS how much can one go to the beach? Boring. Oh lots of ppl who like to drink a lot. No parking at beach anyway.

Great video, the bad reviews seem a little selfish. Everyone has the right to enjoy the beauty of that area. If you dont like people, move out into the country. 😅 who cares if someone registers their car. Just live and let live ❤

And then there's the rising home insurance premiums, not only due to hurricanes, but due to insurance fraud & lawsuits.
