Normally a cover is performed and we like it because it brings the past back in a way and we sort of relive a great song. In this case, Volbeat took a great song, turned into a great Volbeat song without it losing its Metallica origin. I am not sure how that's done because it is a very rare occurrence for any band to pull off.
This one of the most incredible covers I think I have ever heard.
It reminds me kind of how Metallica took “turn the page” and made it their own.

@@macerra4401 Yeah, those are well done straight-forward covers. I really love the drumming on the Artillery cover, too bad Lars couldn't have pulled that off. He struggled with recording the first two albums actually learning how to drum as he went along. Especially with Kill Em All. They turned out well done but he was barely holding on. He still plays his fills too fast but I am def not complaining.

I've loved Volbeat since I discovered them by chance in 2012. Hubs & I are big Hellyeah fans. We got tix to see them when they were touring with Volbeat. I hadn't heard anything other than Still Counting at that time. But they kicked ass and I've been hooked ever since. My daughter and I just saw them with Ghost back in January. So awesome!!

I mean, if you all you want to hear is metal style covers that sound similar to the originals, then yeah, you're not going to like most of this stuff. If you're open to reinterpretations though, there's interesting stuff to be found here. I don't even like country, but John Pardi's Wherever I may Roam is pretty awesome. And I loved St. Vincent's Sad But True. Sounds like a NIN song with a female vocalist.

watched a recent interview with Michael Poulsen, the lead singer, he stated the new album is gonna be the heaviest to date, with the songs sounding very similar to Evelyn, and even heavier. the 2 singles they released earlier in June he said were "summer/feel good songs" and the new album wont sound anything like that

Fan since '06 and I have to agree. I didn't really get into the original until 5 years later, but this one feels heavier and better produced...and a more full sound. Volbeat did a killer job with this cover!

Impressive? They literally made metallicas dont thread on me look wack af. This band took the song and made it a straight 10/10 and theres nothing better than that. The voice, the guitar base drums, all played perfectly even with a chorus having a nice melody been played, the beutiful solo and the pauses were just insane, like i thought it was a 8/10 with ith what i was hearing and aftrr that solo pause i was like holyyyyyy

I actually can't believe I'm going to say this... but I prefer this version over the original! As someone as someone who grew up with Metallica and got into volbeat at a later stage in life, I cannot actually find the words to describe how much this song memes to me and how well a cover they have done. Metallica you will never be replaced and you will always hold a place in my heart that this song as unfortunately taken one from you in this loyal fans opinion.
