I am from Philadelphia, but spent all of my 20's in Anchorage. Anchorage and Alaska as a whole are beautiful. I regret that I had to leave. I had the best time of my life living in Anchorage and working in Alaska. This video takes me back.

I lived in Anchorage from 1982-1989 and you have no idea what 4th ave was like then. Those were some of the roughest bars you would encounter. Remember the Montana Club......
I left in 1981...Alaska Bush company strip club was the bomb

The monkey wharf was a bad bar
I remember the monkey wharf (with real cage monkeys),Wild Cherry and Boobie Trap. (Double OO's had nipples) my grandfather used to take me to the bars
Those were the days when North Slope workers would spend all kinds of money partying. Crazy times!
After visiting Anchorage I have no idea how the people of Alaska live there year round. It’s beautiful and well developed for such a remote location but damn does it get cold… and certainly must be lonely when the tourists go away in the winter. Whatever you do for work you have got to be totally at peace with it.. and yourself! Much respect to Alaskans for living their dreams out in America’s final frontier.

i went to anchorage in 2016 in august.temp.was 65.population in 2016 is 420,000,so definitely not a little town.the biggest city in alaska.dusk is not until 1020 pm.

Thank you for this Vid as it is an update for me to see how the downtown area as change. I was there in 1971 till 1973 as I was stationed at Fort Richardson Army Base. I really liked Anchorage and now 50 years later I would love to come back and see it again. Too bad the cost of living is so high there as I would consider living there as it is truly the last frontier.
Hey Nickolas I was stationed at Ft Richardson from 1985 to 1988. I have missed Alaska since I left and I, too, would love to return one day. What was your job there? I worked at the Transportation Motor Pool (TMP).

Most of them are in groups, they split up so they have a better chance at getting food or blankets then they meet up at night

Left Alaska in 2006 when I enlisted in the military, I had moved to Alaska in 1986 when I was in grade school. Not going to say Alaska is a crappy place to live, but has its own ups and downs about being a resident. But for me when I finally left I had already wanted to leave along time ago but financially couldn’t. Never hung out down town because of all the drunks and drug addicts, was always a turn off in my opinion.
I was There 2 years ALASKA IS HERMOSO STATE, I REMEMBER WHIT LOVE AND RESPECT, AM PABLO TORRES I WAS IN THE THURSDAY NITE boxing in the eagle Center, Saludos FROM ZACATECAS MEXICO!
Air Force Eielson AFB, Fairbanks...1986 -1990...It was a culture shock...from Puerto Rico. Anchorage is a beautiful place...its people are invaluable...humble and down to earth....gracias ALASKA

To much for me I live in NYC all my life I’m tired of the city I want to move to Alaska but I want more wilderness.
Alaska has more wilderness than any state in the US. You can drive 30 minutes from Anchorage and feel like you are in the middle of nowhere.

@@angelcolantuono3976 Alaska is the outdoorsman paradise (if you dont mind the cold) if you make that trip I recommend taking the train to Seward from Anchorage it is better than the cruise imo.
