      They've grown before our eyes / history's eyes into regal, respectable gentlemen who have willed the spirit of old , Southern bluesmen + hardcore british-wave pop stardom wave-ride all the way to the beach , as it were. They are even more appealing in their well earned social grace & status on display here.
      You make it for this long in a band context & you are on elite, solo ground.
      No others . So ,so glad their genetic-stock was sturdy & their patience w/ each other has predominated the inevitable rows mates like this will go thru.
      The greatest Rock & Rollmen on Earth.
      God bless both( but especially Keith! ) of them.

    I'll mention Brian Jones. He Was very nice to me and my best friend when we asked him if we could have our photo taken with him at Essendon Airport in Melbourne, which was a like a Tin shed departure lounge at the time circa . 1966. A beautiful looking guy with perfect hair which made him look like a cherid.

      Definitely! However, George Harrison also said that Brian never received the love and nurturing needed from his parents: they were incredibly stern with no room for movement. I believe that is why he found love with all those girls. Also, John Lennon had met him and found Brian to be pleasant but mixed up because he never received the nurturing he needed from his parents.

      +John Barry Hear, hear. For their part I'm sure that Mick and Keith both will resent Brian's memory forever. Apparently Brian was such a nightmare to deal with that they're both scarred, and I also suspect a bit of guilt for having unintentionally left Brian in the dust. It was something that they never wanted to happen, but to be fair, Brian was utterly unbearable in more ways than one and even Bill and Charlie agree, although Charlie felt sorry for Brian, but Brian was beyond hopeless. It's hard to feel sorry for someone who was reputedly as mean-spirited and selfish as Brian.

    • @steveconn
      @steveconn 7 років тому +14

      Got frozen out early by the band, ganged-up on and bullied; kind of thing makes you more selfish anyway.

    • @DDEENY
      @DDEENY 7 років тому +7

      Wrong. Brian was the most selfish, nasty, mean, vain, insecure, manipulative, irresponsible, self-destructive prick imaginable, impossible to get along with. To a man, Mick, Keith, Bill and Charlie all attest to this fact although Charlie also pitied him. His life was a complete train wreck but his life did end as the result of a murderous act that was never brought to trial. He died in that swimming pool by being intentionally drowned by a person who was unwilling to put up with him and not as the result of drug use. If he wasn't fired from the band, there would never have been a Rolling Stones band post-1969. His demise was sad but at the same time he's not missed by the band, and it's hard to relate this others who never had to deal with Brian. They'd like to be able to forget him because his memory serves no real purpose although Bill reported that his memories of Brian were happy in the very early days before Brian changed and became a very bad person. As Keith noted, he never wished Brian dead but now that he's gone it's a welcome relief. Mick noted that fame doesn't sit well on some people's shoulders, and that was Brian totally. It's a shame that things didn't turn out differently, but the introduction of Mick Taylor to The Stones set the stage for the band's early-70's career zenith.

    • @steveconn
      @steveconn 7 років тому +15

      DDEENY Mick and Keith tell all the worst parts about him, but forget to mention how after they learned Brian was paying himself an extra five pounds in the early days (considering the hundreds of millions Mick and Keith have made since joining his band, pretty paltry), they did petty things like take off in the tour bus without him, bully him, make him play the harmonica at a session till his mouth bled without even turning on his mic, not give him credit on a song he wrote the melody for (Ruby Tuesday), and generally conspire with Oldham to get rid of him. Some of his behavior was inexcusable, much of it was just reacting to being frozen out of his own band, as Mick and Keith soaked up his charisma and in Keith's case his woman and drug-decadent image. Read Paul Trynka's groundbreaking 2014 book on Brian (he did hundreds of fresh interviews with Stones friends, promoters, engineers, etc) to get the full story about him, not just the official 'he was an asshole that wasted himself' version that Mick and Keith always lazily hand out.

    • @DDEENY
      @DDEENY 7 років тому +1

      I made the point that the other 4 original Stones all attested that Brian was a bad person. "One witness is not enough to convict anyone accused of any crime or offense they may have committed. A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses." (Deuteronomy 19:15) The point is that one can be wrong but not all witnesses can be wrong. For their part, Mick, Keith, Bill and Charlie were all there, and you and I weren't. The fact is that Brian was utterly unbearable. I can relate to this because I've known people that are the exact same personality type. I read the story where early on Brian went into a London record store and another customer had special-ordered American blues records (a coveted item at the time) that were waiting to be picked up, and Brian DEMANDED that the clerk give the records to him instead for the fact that he was in a band and deserved to have them. That about sums his personality up. Obnoxious. It's clear that Mick and Keith did come to resent Brian but that was only after Brian changed once the band came to a measure of pop success. Before that it was Keith and Brian who were tight together and chastised Mick for his effeminate mannerisms onstage. (Ian Stewart also used to get pissed off at Brian for playing "Popeye The Sailor Man" tune on guitar during shows where the audience was so loud that the band could barely hear themselves playing onstage.)
      Brian's odd musical contributions to the band were unique and indispensable and kept The Stones from becoming just another 60's British Invasion blues-based pop band. But beyond that his musical talent was sorely limited and once Mick and Keith songwriting skills and partnership developed, he couldn't accept that he wasn't so much a leader anymore but just another pedestrian guitarist in a successful band. But not surprisingly, those moments when his ego was able to be put aside and he gelled with the band rather than trying to fly above it proved to be both his and the band's finest moments.

    They've grown before our eyes / history's eyes into regal, respectable gentlemen who have willed the spirit of old , Southern bluesmen + hardcore british-wave pop stardom wave-ride all the way to the beach , as it were. They are even more appealing in their well earned social grace & status on display here.
    If you can make it for this long w/in a "band" context , you find you are on elite, solo ground after a certain point. They long-ago reached that & still gather no moss as they continue to roll onward.
    No other rock&roll group has done this .
    So ,so glad that their English,genetic-stock was sturdy ( 'straight outta Dartford' ) & their patience w/ each other has predominated the inevitable rows which close mates like this will go thru.
    The greatest Rock & Rollmen on Earth.
    God bless both( but especially Keith! ) of them.

They didn't dislike or hate Brian in any way, regardless of what you folks are claiming. He was an integral part of the band and they've always talked very highly of Brian.

      +Lolita. Nonsense. Mick and Keith would have formed a band without him. Brian got heavier into drugs and got to the point where he no longer contributed in the studio. He just sat in the corner nodding off. Brian was a nasty little piece of work. He physically abused his women. Just ask Anita Pallenberg.

    • @klausrain111
      @klausrain111 8 років тому +4

      +The Artful Dodger Yeah, not to mention that touring was out of the question while Brian was in the band. While Brian obviously added a lot to the band in the early days, the recorded output during the Mick Taylor years was the best, the absolute BEST run of any band in rock history. Best songs, best shows, the BEST!

    • @jonesy2111
      @jonesy2111 8 років тому +4

      Actually Brian was the most talented musician the band ever had and he led the way in style, drugs, women and music...he deserves a lot of credit and I see way too many people on here reiterate the old tired cliches like he got messed up on drugs...he was an arse, he beat Anita etc there a lot more about Brian and he couldn't four because of drug conviction issues so they fired him...he was going to form a new band and had been talking to Hendrix and others and he was murdered which the people and press were totally oblivious to and as usual think whatever is convenient for them to think...Brian Jones RIP

    • @klausrain111
      @klausrain111 8 років тому +4

      +Rick Jones Maybe there's a lot of truth in what you say, but how do you know, how does anyone know what really happened. Brian's not around to give his side, obviously. Looks-wise, he wasn't doing too well towards the end, I mean, you can see it in his face. Just very hard to know the truth.
