Nicely done. Straight forward. Just the necessary and detailed information. Film content matched very well with the information given. Thank you for that. Very helpful.
Just FYI, here are the instructions from a dealer for how to add the fluid after draining. You will find a vent plug located on each transaxle. Loosen this plug on each side. You will fill the hydro oil through the expansion reservoir until oil comes out of the vent plug. Once you see oil coming out of the plugs, tighten the vent plugs. Obviously, this is much easier than pumping fluid up into the vents. Also, the manual instructions say to do the following to remove air in the system: Start your mower and increase the throttle to about ½ throttle. Release the parking brake. Make sure the bypass valve is open and slowly move the motion control levers both forward and reverse about 6 times. Close the bypass valve and repeat the same procedure moving the levers both forward and reverse about 6 times. Check the oil level with the mower in the off position and once the hydros have cooled. Add more oil if needed until it reaches the “full cold” line shown on the expansion reservoir. You may need to repeat the steps to purge the air. Once your drive tires move at normal speed and the noise level seems correct you can stop.
Good stuff thank you - I'm at 69 hrs on mine going to get the break-in out in the next few weeks. Using Hydro Gear Filters and actually going to use Amsoil Hydro Oil 20w-50. I am an Amsoil fan for all my other equipment and vehicles.
Yep I use their small engine oil in my Exmark. I ran it all last season and it looked brand new when I changed it this season. Let me know how that amsoil 20w50 did for you.
Thanks for the vid. I just did my 2018 ex mark radius and couldn't actually use the adapter to screw it into either transaxle. So I just sat there holding the tube in about half an inch in the transactional plug opening and filled with fluid. Filled all the way up to the top. Topped off the reservoir... so the pump was helpful at least to get it up into the hole. One would think that they could make a adapter that basically looks like the plug that you take out of the transactional. Just add the nipple to the center that way the sideways chunky part of the adapter doesn't get in the way.
My filters were super tight, didn’t have a strap wrench ended up using a clamp. 2023 radius E 48” model doesn’t have a reservoir. Manual says just to pump through top port or you can add through fill port till it comes out top port. Steering is more even now and feels faster. Thanks for the video.
Good explanation. Though make your life a little easier, plus its the Exmark official directions. Remove the two vent bolts like you did and you can fill from the expansion tank, no need to pump the fluid in. Page 61 of the owners manual includes that and the vent bolt torque specs.
Doing mine today, time to get out the break in oil. Video very helpful and also was told by dealer to do the same, fill up the reservoir and take out the bolt and let the hydro fills until they start to come out the holes and put in the bolts. Also to pull the bypass levers then prime it like you did but no jacks needed due to tires not spinning.
@@ChiefWiggim The service manual says bypass then close bypass and run the controls both directions. I am sure you could skip the last and just bypass purge and then drive it around.
I was wondering about that. That would also save money , not having to buy that kit to get the fitting. Is Mobil 1 20w50 good for hydro gear pumps ? Thanks
@@John_D2 My manual says Mobil1 15w-50 or Exmark Hydro Oil. The Mobil1 has a 250 hour interval, the Exmark Hydro oil has a 500 hour interval. I used Mobil1 personally, it will take several years for me to hit the 250 hour mark.
You say to repeat the same steps for the other size, but the other side does not have a 11/16 bolt to refill. So how did you add to the side under the reservoir tank. I’m guessing you poured it into the reservoir like some of the comments I’m reading!.?
If This is a radius mine is not like that you can put the oil in a small container on top but you have to lock the screw to one of the side before you do that so it does not run altogether in boats section just a full one side first I’m soon as you see the oil start to run from the screw that you takeoff you can stop that mean it’s full and close it and open your side to do the same thing
I'm sure there is a reason to refill the fluid the way you did . My owners manual says to fill from the reservoir . I'm guessing this may cause to much air getting into system even by removing the 2 top vents , is that correct . Thanks for your post
No sir, in fact I followed my service manual’s procedure down to the smallest detail, as shown in the video. The mower is currently at 700+ reliable hours. Thanks for watching!
From an engineer's perspective, it appears the whole design is to make maintenance as egregious as possible so you take it to the dealership...Geeze. Back in the day, you could change the oil, blades etc in less than two hours.
Just to let everyone know if this exmark is still under warranty do not use the kit that this guy has, because if it is under warranty you must use everything by exmark or not it could void the warranty, once your mower is no longer under warranty than you can use whatever parts you want.
Good video! Straight to the point with all the necessary information needed!

Great info and presentation, thank you! So many of these videos are shot with a potato and left unedited, with a 5 min intro about nothing.

At 4:45 are you supposed to top it off if it doesn’t have any oil?
Thanks for the video on hydro oil change the only thing I miss is the hole where to refill the transmition

Ok stupid question, where does it designate the model of the hydro unit on the machine?
That was very informative and well edited. Great video!
You show the rear wheels off the ground but how did you lift the rear? Where would you place a jack?
what is the part number for the kit you used in the video ? I have a radius S series ZT-3100 so the kit you used will work.
4:00...I'm thinking you aren't going to pump much with that short pick up tube.
4:25....it grew!.......Thanks for the upload on this.
Thanks man !!! Needed this.... thank you a billion times over !!!!
Can you do a video of replacing the idler arm spring? I can’t figure out where it’s attached to the mower body.
Thanks. You made this service easy.
Thank you so much, the dealer wanted $295.00 to do this, I understand they have to make money, but SCALPING is Illegal Thanks again..
there are guys here that said they have never ever changed no hydro oil and that dont need to
Do you trim both hydraulic filter the same way
The right-side transmission vent bolt has the grease zerk in the way. Super hard to get to. Is venting just the left-side ok, do you think?
Here’s my question on this though. Where are the bleeder valves located on the transaxles for the bleeding process?
New style hydros don't need or have a vent bleeding valve according to the dealer.
Great job man helped a lot
Could I just fill in from tank? Since I have both axels drawing from tank
The Hydro-Gear kit for the Radius E Series is part# 72750. There is some confusion about that since there are a few kit #’s available.
Could you do a video on leveling a deck for your mower I have a 52" Radius it should be same process.
Thanks
How many hours does that have on it.

How often does this need to be done?
after 75 hours, then every 500 hours
That's 500 hours if using Exmark Hydro Oil, 250 hours if something else!
Thank you thank you great video
Howdy. Can I pour the all the new fluid thru the reservoir?
Yes, just remove the two vent bolts like I did.
@@foster_williams won't the oil run out of the holes that you took out if you fill from reservoir?

You can’t just pour it all through the expansion tank? I also have a bad boy and poured it through the expansion tank
I didn't know they made a kit
I didn't either. Made it a lot easier, though.
@@foster_williams where can I buy the kit? Can you provide a link? Thank you.

Good video but I think you should have mentioned a little more details like how much oil in each side, etc... but very informative - thx
My fill plug was 11/16 not 13/16
Voice crack combined with southern accent is HILARIOUS

By removing the bolts you will get minimum air. That's how the dealer does it.
Nice job! Presented really well......even a village idiot should be able to understand that! Great video!
Thanks for the info
Excellent
Nice 👌💯
It's a 11/16 on mine
My vent bolts are 11/16 not 13/16

Dealer told my I had to use the Exmark brand fluid for warranty. Just saying .
The owner’s manual says you can use Mobil 1 15w50. I can’t imagine they’d void the warranty if that’s right in the manual.
👍🏼👍🏼
Awesome. My Quest S manual is less than informative on this service. Thanks.
Great job
