I have a special place for thimbles in my heart. My great grandmother passed her thimble to me and I treasure it always thinking about her when I stitch, however it only fits on my 5th finger so not so useful!!! Thank you for sharing you knowledge and tips of the trade ..
It’s funny how such a small item can be so meaningful. We know how many hours your grandmother spent with that symbol, and so somehow it’s a connection to her. Such a treasure. I cannot wear my grandmother’s thimble either!!!
Hi Susan. Last night I got out all my thimbles while I watched you. I have a beautiful open nail thimble from Thimbles for You. While I had it specifically fitted, it is too big. Probably because I was in Fla on a very hot day and had swollen fingers. I took a latex thimble and fitted it inside a brass thimble that is the same style as yours. I’ve actually been using it as I hand quilt my Anne Thomas tea towel from Hands Across the Sea. I’ll post a photo later today on Instagram. I believe the thimble came from my great aunt’s sewing box. It could have been her mother’s, my great grandmother.
Hello Ann. I am eagerly looking forward to seeing your quilt project! I am glad you were inspired to get out your thimbles to find one that would make your task easier. I do believe that “Thimbles for You” will work with you to get the proper fit! She makes such beautiful products it’s a shame to not be able to use it. I wish you all the best as you continue your stitching.
I love my 10:44 leather thimble. I have metal thimbles to use for quilting but not one with the ring on top. Thank you for showing different types. I had no idea there was one for long fingernails…. Guess because I don’t have long nails
Well, you can see from the video I do not have long fingernails either😜 but I had to try the Thimble nonetheless! It does give your finger a feeling of freedom to have that opening in the back!!!! Thank you for watching and I’m so glad you have found something you love to use.
Thanks for the lovely video , Susan. I’ve had a love/hate relationship with my thimbles all of my life - but really enjoyed your thoughts on them. Although, you kind of talked about humidity I would like to add that living in a hot/cold climate (aka South Dakota) I’ve bought thimbles in the summer that fit perfectly, but come winter they become torpedoes and will fling across my living room 😂. With that said - it may be needed for some to have a “summer” thimble and a “winter” thimble. Personally, that’s why I like the little thimble pads - they fit perfectly, summer or winter, and are less intrusive than a metal thimble. Thanks again for sharing you knowledge - I so enjoy listening to you. ❤
Oh such excellent insight !!!! You are so right about the climate affecting our hands! I loved your story and maybe that explains why I have so many thimbles in my sewing basket 😀
Super helpful wee video! Thank you!
Wonderful video! Thank you for this information-I learned a lot!
Thank you, Susan. You explanation about thimbles was very informative and helpful! :-D
