I just bought a broken and repaired piece of pottery that had been in two separate museum collections. I felt if it waa good enough for them, then it was good enough for me.
    Another good show.

Hi Peter, You say you are not able to carve things, but that's just because you haven't put in your 10,000 hours. I think most talent is acquired, not innate. Great collection. A thoroughly enjoyable video. I especially like that Republican brush-pot.

Thank you for sharing! I agree that a slight amount of damage does not necessarily detract from the beauty of a piece. I think of the Japanese repaired ceramic bowls. Often the colored metal lacquer makes them even more beautiful!

I saw a similar Peking glass seal sample in bonhams auction house, for the Bi.disk, I can't recall any examples.
Thats why I saw massive ivory carvings in the auction

I can't understand why carvings can be so underpriced either... Looking on the bright side: my collection has benefitted and I share your passion for carving.
Regarding animal teeth or horns, I'm of the opinion that it became unfair, and should thus be illegal, from the moment that guns are used, it's earned with risk and a fairer fight until you bring guns into it, so anyway, that's my policy!
Please allow me to again convey my thanks for your impeccable knowledge, generously shared.
All the Best for the future. 🇬🇧 🇺🇸

Please do a Furniture tour next, can see some interesting pieces in your house.
Also at one stage would like to see some art and silks.
    Great video thanks again

Thank you Mr. Combs, I hope you will forgive me for saying this but I think art is a bad investment.... Unless you consider the dividend of the pleasure of ownership, how living with art makes life so much better. I collect ceramics because I am a sculptor and a ceramicist, and so I love living with the product of the artist of the past, it is instructive on so many levels.
I'm afraid that there is an argument to be made against the sale of antique ivory, as you know better than most once a market heats up the forgers will be all over it, and that would raise demand for new ivory to make modern copies of old forms. I'm not saying that the trade should be banned I'm just saying that there is a danger. Be well.
