As I now understand it was written about the failed or failing Aragon Mill in Georgia by Si Kan. What I believe I had seen was a video of him singing it in Ireland and conflated the the song being written about an Irish mill. At any rate it's a moving song story.
Heart wrenching story about what happened to rural America. Their jobs, identity, and social structure were taken. This song has all that emotion.
It's originally written about Ireland but Hazel Dickens put the face of much of America on it in the 1970s.
