    Ròsa Gallery is a brand that deserves to be in the database, imo. Also, one thing I find very intereting is expansiveness (how much a paint spreads in contact with water), and it is not usually stated by the brands. We can intuitively know how that goes by brand, if it is an asian brand it settles and doesn't spread in no matter the colour, for example, but there is not a precise analysis by brand and speciffic colour. Thankyou for your hard work, it is very much appreciated.

    Needs pigment toxicity information if it is to be taken seriously as an educational resource, as well as a link to a way artists can dispose of their toxic paints. Lots of influencers are monetizing their socials and YT, thus getting paid for this type of influence and getting many tens of thousands of people into art, but extremely few of the top people (with the exception of Denise Soden - kudos Denise!) are showing concern for the environment and responsibility as brand ambassadors and 'influencers' (I dislike the term, but you get it).

    AMAZING!! this is so helpful. Thank you so much for sharing this with the world, Oto ❤️
    I would love to see Paul Rubens on your site, too. I was hoping to get more information on your site, which btw is so well put together... but probably you don't have any more information on Paul Rubens Paints either.
    But nonetheless, I would love to see you testing those in terms of their properties. Find out for us weather a color is granulating or staining, for example. I would loooove to watch you do this, because I'd feel more comfortable in making my own tests to get to know the colors I own better. You're just so organized that I feel I'd benefit a lot from you talking about your thoughts and process when doing tests on a color of which you don't know anything other than the pigments.
    I'd be happy if you consider my idea 😊 apart from that, thanks for everything you do. I appreciate you so much 🧡

    Nice! handprint seems to be abandoned and is hard to navigate, so I think a newer database will be really helpful.
    I love the layout of the site, it is really easy to navigate despite the gigantic amount of data.
    I understand that you don't want to add the lightfastness database from the other side into it, but having the information in the same place would be really helpful. Maybe you could link their tests if they are ok with it?

    Wow, what an undertaking! This is amazing. It's very well organized and user friendly, and I will definitely be consulting this in the future. A few suggestions for future features:
    - a link from the pigment name (e.g., on the by brand page) directly to the page for that pigment
    - a way to sort the columns to view differently
    - an indicator for old formula vs new formula for when pigments are discontinued or a brand changes for other reasons (could maybe be years it was active), as well as capturing some already discontinued paints for those of us who end up with used sets (I have some old Rembrandt tubes, and I really wish I could find pigment info on the colors that no longer exist in their range to find modern equivalents)
    - add Paul Rubens and Camlin to the brands.
    Thank you for all the hard work you've done!

  • @palnagok1720
    @palnagok1720 2 роки тому +1

    ...excellent indeed...
    1...you have a typo for Jane blundell in the other resources section
    2 ...The particle size of the paint and it's ability to spread / not spread ...eg aquazol by QoR will spread the most but Holbein will not. The vegan filter is a bit confusing. I am more concerned about handling properties. So which mftr paints spread or not? And of course , this will be different on each paper type
    3...relative densities of each pigment/mix would be nice. How they go on each paper type would be a hoot...swatches...how far can one go with granulation,sizing,pigment and paper texture. This would be a shitload of work though.
    Cheers

    Dear Dr Oto Kano.
    Some people have P049 in their collection. Sometimes we can buy it from them. I have recently tried it, and it does have a kind of special quality that PO48, or PY150 doesn't have. It was my first search in your database. I tried looking in oranges, or is simply not there as it is no longer produced, rather just stockpiled and hoarded in the underground....
    I do know that some private home made brands are using it, and I know you are only showing viable artist sources. Yes, like Yinmin, it is elusive, but we are all pigment nerds after all!
    When I didn't see it there, I got a bit sad.....
    In kindred spirit,

    As a beginner in the medium, I'm finding it difficult to choose my core colours in artist grade paints. In Australia art is a very expensive (extortionate) exercise. Rather than the hearts of colour on the website it would be great if it was a colour wheel. That way one doesn't have to sift through to find which way the colour leans with regard to warmth, coolness or neutralrality. Just a thought. BTW I LOVE your UA-cam videos, they're a great resource. x

    • @OtoKano
      @OtoKano  2 роки тому

      Hi, it's a great suggestion, however color leaning is relative to other colors, so a single color on their own can't truly be said to be warm or cool. Only that it's warmer or cooler than another color. I hope this makes sense!

    Hi, Ms.Oto. I’m a follower since three years ago (Covid)
    I was trying to do a color Wheel of 48 colors and I discovered your date base last week in your web.
    I think it’s amazing and incredible.
    If you accept a suggestion, you could add de number serie of the Brand, in order to make it easy to find in the bying webs
    Best Regards

    This is AMAZING!!! Thank you so much.
    Does anyone know where I can find tinting strength info? I’d like to have a pallet with sting tinting colors and another with weak. Is the only way to find that with rules of thumb (Quin’s and phthalos are strong) or is there an online resource?

      You can see the tinting strength if I have swatched the brand. If you scroll to the bottom of QoR or M. Graham (2 brands I've already swatched the whole brand), on the right bottom corner of each color, if it's low, very low, high or very high tint strength, it'll say those words. If it doesn't have anything written in that corner, it's medium tint strength.
