    The GEVI Grindmaster was announced in early September, and looked to take a chunk out of the very competitive 64mm flat burr coffee grinder market. Since then, there has been a slew of early tester feedback, and from that, updates to the unit. In this video, we'll look at what's changed on the GEVI Grindmaster including the build, grind adjustment, and scale. This is currently the fully upgraded version for the Indiegogo campaign, but if users have any other feedback and suggestions, the Gevi team may also consider optimizing the product in the future.

    Really curious to hear everyone's thoughts on the Grindmaster with these new revisions! For a grinder that checks a lot of boxes on paper, is this something you could see in your home setup??

    I have a Mignon zero and toyed with getting a larger 64mm. Was tempted by the Zerno on looks but then saw this and took a punt and ordered back in Oct I think. I’m told should be dispatched by around Feb. Looking forward to trying it out

    Great comparison ‘review’. Nice grinder at a reasonable price point, though the digital dosing cup appears to be the only really new feature to seperate this from the competition. I’m very happy with my Lagom P64.

    It's great to see the company improving based on feedback. I wasn't too happy with the original version they sent me, but they have addressed a lot of my complaints especially with the stepless dial and tighter tolerances.

    This is interesting and I'm glad they responded to your feedback but I'm still satisfied I got in on the preorder for the Zerno Z1.

    In be the Gevi Grindmaster now - eventually arrived start of June. Actually works great but the wife doesn’t like it on the countertop

    It’s definitely is nice seeing how responsive they are to feedback. If they include an anti-retention device this would really be a solid package. Though, I feel someone is already going to 3D print some bellows for it.

    This looks awesome, it’s really making me reconsider getting a Lagom P64, which was my plan. The features of the Zerno, and more, but a lot prettier

      I still wouldn’t place the build quality in the same realm as the Zerno or Option-O, but in terms of features it has them beat

    • @iamjerney
      @iamjerney 6 місяців тому +4

      As a zerno owner you are paying for the build quality. This won’t compare to how aligned and robust the zerno is

      Overpriced andnot as stable as Zerno or Option O - why drop a solid seller for a new chinese product?

      To be fair, the Zerno and P64 are at a higher price point. As I said above, they are in a different build quality league

      Yes, like almost 4 times the price of this grinder! Not sure they're 4 times better...

    Didn't even know this one existed, or I might have considered it instead of the niche zero I bought early this year. I really like that integrated scale, and I've heard nothing but good about the SSP burrs. And for around the same price, too.
    That said, I've had only bad experiences with indiegogo, so that part might have been a deal-breaker. I hope they sell this at retail someday.

    • @LimitedWard
      @LimitedWard 6 місяців тому +1

      The integrated scale feels like a gimmick to me. I think you made a good choice either way, going with a well-established brand known for its quality. One thing I personally love about the Niche is that it's one of the few grinders in its price tier that doesn't require a bellows to push out the grinds. I'm always within 0.1g with no effort.

    still no change to the lack of knocker or bellows to help with retention, I understand the anti-static but you still have inevitable retention. That was what made me go sculptor even after i knew they were changing to stepless adjustment making this like the sculptor a grinder that ranges from filter to espresso.

    • @phoenixwang1269

      They are actually selling bellow for this machine on the website. I'm curious why they don't ship it with the grinder

    • @fratista

      Bellow is optional. Usually bellows can be quite ugly, but it really matches a bit with their design.

  • @JulesAUS
    @JulesAUS 6 місяців тому

    What do you think of the pre-breaker/auger design? Is it likely to generate a lot of retention/exhange?

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  6 місяців тому +1

      No, pre-breakers are very beneficial to grind uniformity and grinding speed! Many many great grinders use it. Fellow ODE, Zerno, Bentwood, EK43…

    Thank you so much for the video. You’re my go to for information on Coffee equipment. Was wondering whether you think this machine would be a great upgrade from the Niche zero. I currently have the niche zero strictly for espresso, but have always wanted to try a flat burr grinder and am considering replacing my niche zero with this one. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    In your review video a couple of months ago you said you'd pick the DF64 Gen 2 over this. Is it still true?

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  6 місяців тому

      I think these updates bring the Grindmaster closer, but I would still pick the DF for its simplicity and build quality

    • @JulesAUS
      @JulesAUS 6 місяців тому

      @@LifestyleLab_ that makes sense. I wasn't so impressed with the DF64 Gen 2 - the power switch failed within 2 weeks. That made me doubt its built quality and I returned it.

    • @LifestyleLab_

    I am still waiting for my Grindmaster, despite mails in the Indiegogo campaign sending an information about the assembyl and shipping process in early March. Support told me that it will arrive somewhere in April and now June is coming.
    Is this whole campaign a scam? Could you please try to contact the company? Thank you

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  Місяць тому +2

      The company is certainly not a scam, but crowdfunding campaigns do often get delayed. This is the nature of that kind of launch. It will arrive, Gevi is a very large company overall, they have not run away with your money

      Have you been paying attention in the last 3 years? Thanks to the Success of the Niche Zero and DF series grinders, The single dose low retention espresso grinder market has exploded and everyone and their grandma now has their own grinder brand or kickstarter grinder coming out!
      This one checks a LOT of feature of boxes for a good price.
      You'd have a better argument if you said the market is over-saturated as there's already so many 64mm and similar flat burr grinders and everyone who wanted one likely already has one!

    Another grinder another day of the same old problems... Another grinder designed by men who make things to look at home in a lab and not a kitchen. Batchelor products is what I class these as. There are a very small amount of women/wives who would be happy with this thing in their kitchen. It's another reason that the Niche grinders are so popular. They fit in with appliances from Kitchen Aid and Smegg. They look at home in a regular kitchen. Then you get you this kind of continued nonsense. It really doesn't matter how well this grinder performs. The astherics are VERY male orientated. When I showed my wife the grinder options she instantly pointed at the Niche and told me in no uncertain terms I could not buy any of the others. I really hate this lab looking trend for grinders. It does not happen with any other kitchen appliance. Only coffee grinders and I do not understand why.

      I've never thought of grinders or coffee gear as Male or Female oriented designs, but I know a lot of people (probably mainly Men) didn't love the Niche Zero's looks because it was too cute, no hard corners just lots of soft rounded edges. I think this design looks more like a Sewing machine or a kitchen mixer! That's pretty kitchen appliance-y isn't it?
      Also based on demographics It seems it is mostly men who are interested in more advanced coffee stuff, men are more likely to be the purchasers of a new single dose / low retention espresso grinder for sure.

    • @Tass...
      @Tass... 6 місяців тому

      @@BensCoffeeRants Think about the average kitchen. How a kettle or espresso machine looks. Or an air frier or food blender looks. Kitchen top appliances all have a seminal aesthetic look to them that makes them appealing to a mass market. Or how about a Nespresso machine or anything else.... Then you have these coffee grinders with their metallic finishes and their square lines and unapolegetic nods to lab equipment. Why? That is my issue and question. Why? Why only these machines that need to stand out and look abnormal in the kitchen? I just do not get it.

    • @Shazam_24
      @Shazam_24 6 місяців тому +7

      You’re more worried about perceived kitchen aesthetics vs a million other actual things is wild. Blenders are ugly, insta points and air fryers are not attractive machines and yet all of them are very common in households. The black version doesn’t look like lab equipment. This is such a weird take.
