  • Today we test true coldfire -- flames without smoke or heat, Bob the Flame LED by Chauvet.
    Simple and rugged, larger than they first appear, these are an overall nice effect but could have used just a few small improvements to justify their cost.

    Thank you. The scale was the thing impressed a lot when I got them. I read the dimensions on the product page, but it really didn't gel until I actually had them in front me.

    Thanks for posting this; I thought you pretty well covered everything I was wondering about, and I REALLY appreciated the scale view… I had thought they were much smaller than they actually are.
    I hope you get a commission; I just bought one XD

    That's cool. I'm going to make my own using old PC fans and cellophane and leds.

    Others have already mentioned the scale, they are bigger than I thought. It would be nice to have some shorter legs too as I was planning to use this type of effect on top of some bespoke hand made podiums I had manufactured. I suppose I could still buy a pair of these and cut the legs down 50% at least. Nice review, thank you.

    I rewired my two with clear 16ga lamp cord woven through the chains so they hang more naturally.

    DAMN haha I thought that would be a real fire which would have been SO cool!

    I think a dimmer switch adapter to slow down the fan would allow for a slower flicker effect. But I think you would lose brightness as well. They could probably be hacked to have an independent switch for the light and fan.

    variable speed fans would also help......a bit s-l-o-w-e-r fan would make for a more realistic fire....NOT a JET afterburner.

      that's the LED lighting up the the ceiling fan light... I don't think you neeed to buy one of those for the flame effect to work!

    This could use ion battery and removable AC power so you can RC them as well

      rkosym I hear you, man. An updated version of the Bob the Flame with a RGBAW LED and DMX would be some awesome sauce.

    Can these be used as a permanent fixture.....I have a customer that has a piece of granite(16" square) and they are wanting to mount an "eternal flame" on to....Will be used outside, so would have to withstand the weather....????

    • @Uraniumdj
      @Uraniumdj  7 років тому

      There are not outdoor fixtures, at least not ones meant for permanent installation. The first rainstorm or twig falling into the fan would kill them :(

    I painted over the majority of the blue LEDs because they were WAY too bright. My flames are more amber now and less pink. That was my main gripe with these. The blue LEDs completely KILL the effect.

    I want to use them on the beach. Are they batter operated?

    • @Uraniumdj
      @Uraniumdj  7 років тому

      They are not battery operated :( However, they have a pretty low power draw. They should be able to operate off of a portable battery with an AC converter, like a lot of good quality car battery jumpers have.

      If you're talking about the contents of the plastic bag on the table, those are actually the chains that came with the Bobs. You can remove the legs and suspend them from the chains instead.
