Hi Roy, excellent Western collection, quite a few in here I need to track down, the Tom Selleck film is Quigley Down Under. I love the Hateful Eight, in fact it’s my favourite Quentin Tarantino movie (so far) The John Wayne film you were trying to think of is The Quiet Man. Thoroughly enjoyed this Roy, take care mate👍😃👍
Hi Roy, Good to see Western movie fans out there, 😎👍, didn"t see this video in the community, if interested myself, Dan"s movie cave & 101Bronson have been doing a Westerns For Life Podcast with varied episodes of classic, modern & spaghetti westerns it might spike your interest as we all feel that westerns are way overlooked in our movie collecting community. The episodes are on our channels on playlists, yes westerns weren"t really in many UK video stores back in the day, & i love the fact that westerns are out there, but still more attention for these great movies should be out there more. "Quigley down under" is underrated, "Seraphim Falls" is a decent one but runs out of steam in the end, good to see the classics in your collection with John Wayne & James Stewart, i"d recommend "The Big Gundown" & most westerns with Lee Van Cleef, & is the first movie then "Run, man, run" with the Tomas Milian character, try some Franco Nero ones like "Django" & "The Mercenary" "Brimstone" is a tough watch, "Hostiles" i enjoyed, " fine collection Roy.
Thanks Carlos. I will check out the pod. I do watch Dan's videos too. He's a great guy with great knowledge. I do enjoy the videos on the rare occasions you and he get together around London. I've just added 3 westerns into the collection this morning which I'll show in the week when I do a haul video. There may well be a Lee Van Cleef there 👍
Lots of fantastic Westerns there Roy! Of course for me it was really only last year that I properly got into the Westerns, but it's quickly become one of my favourite genres. You've got plenty of classics that I need to get round to watching, like Destry Rides Again, Who shot Liberty Valance and The Great Silence. You're also the second person to say how great Brimstone was, so I need to get my hands on a copy. I actually just recently picked up the Hateful Eight and also Hostiles to watch again, as they are both fantastic, so nice to see them in your collection.
Thanks Warren. There is so much great stuff to discover in the genre. They were churning them out so fast at one time. Destry is superb. Stewart and Dietrich play off each other incredibly.
Fantastic collection Roy. It's definitely one of my favourite genres. I especially enjoy the good old cavalry vs indians, Spaghetti, and Australian [sometimes known as Meat Pie or Kangaroo😂] set ones. I recently watched Red Hill which you showed, and enjoyed it; although it's set in contemporary Australia, not 19th century. Other Australian set westerns i've enjoyed, and didn't see in your collection include Ned Kelly[1970] with Mick Jagger[as well as several later adaptations], Mad Dog Morgan[1976] with Dennis Hopper as the titular bushranger, The Proposition[2005] and The Nightingale[2018]. The other two in John Fords 'cavalry trilogy' - Fort Apache, and She Wore a Yellow Ribbon make good companions to Rio Grande[which is my favourite of the three]. Another John Wayne 'cavalry western' which doesn't get much attention is Hondo[1953]. Major Dundee[1965], is a fantastic, epic Sam Peckinpah directed western with Charlton Heston in the title role, and has many interesting elements - US Civil War, a partly Mexican setting, Apaches, and a finale with a US vs French cavalry skirmish !👍
Many thanks Tony. You have given me plenty for my list. Proposition I have on dvd great movie and The Nightingale I have on bluray and totally missed when I was getting them out
Vera Cruz is decent Burt Lancasters smile is infectious never seen him smile as much in a film one of my favourite actors 👌🏻 great collection mate Jeremiah Johnson is fantastic I love it and I'm not the biggest Robert Retford fan but he is fantastic in this film , 🎥👍🏻
Great collection, Roy. Definitely a genre I love and there are quite a few I could suggest. Maybe I will do a video soon. For me, likewise I don’t remember renting many westerns on vhs. However I certainly got into westerns very young, and particularly John Wayne westerns, as they were on tv so regularly. Love your edition of My Darling Clementine (I have the Criterion) and great to see you have Sweet Country, I just found a blu ray of that at the weekend, great movie.
Thanks Neil I certainly would love to hear your recommendations for some westerns. An American lady youtuber called Stephanie, her channel is called Movie Chatter recommended Sweet Country. I'm glad I heeded her advice and got a copy. Fantastic film.
I watched The good the bad and the ugly the other week and really enjoyed it. Quigley is one i am after, very good. love The Searchers, i have that in a Blu-ray boxset, i also need Rio Grande, i want She wore a yellow ribbon as well. I don't own many westerns but i am looking at getting me self some John Wayne classics, How many western do you think you own on dvd ? Thanks Roy.
Hello Mark I don't have that many on dvd I don't think but I could surprise myself. She wore a ribbon is one I've been after too. Although I did enjoy Quigley I can't see myself watching it again anytime soon so I'll drop it in the post for you.
Must admit as u said at the start like yourself westerners never really caught my interest. I've stumbled across a few over the years, as u mentioned too I do like Tarentinos Hateful eight, I quite liked the remake of True Grit too. Other than that most others I've seen don't do alot for me. Interesting to here your thoughts thought Roy 🫡 glad u managed to get into them more than me 😎👍🏻

Hello Ash it would be dull if we all liked the same things. For me it's always comedies I struggle to get into. I must be a right miserable git 😆
@roybarratt5609 😄 we all have our less explored genre's I guess, take it easy mate 😎👍🏻
