REPORT: UNLV Rebels WANT to join Big 10 in expansion, a realignment move that makes NO SENSE

- A report from Sports Illustrated argues that UNLV's non-conference football matchup with UCLA could be an audition of sorts to try and get into the Big 10. The Rebels should be coveted by the Pac-12, and they shoudl want to join--the Big 10 is a bridge WAY too far.
On today's episode of Locked On College Football, Spencer McLaughlin is joined by 'Locked On Irish' host Tyler Wojciak to discuss how Notre Dame will try to rebound in 2025 after their national title loss. How much harder is it without DC Al Golden, who's taken the same job with the Bengals? 9:12
Spencer is also joined by SPECIAL GUEST Dan Furman, President of Louisville's NIL collective. The Cardinals look very sustainable under Jeff Brohm, and their willingness to adapt to NIL has been a part of that success. 19:26

Yes, considering UNLV for the Big10 is ridiculous.
But UNLV is in the news. :)
UNLV would be hard pressed to get an invite from the Big 12, let alone one from the B1G. I could name 20 other schools ahead of them.
UNLV wants to join the B10 and I want to sleep with a model with massive cans.. think we both are not getting what we want.
🤣
Facts
I believe in you, bro
"REPORT": Throwing slop against the wall hoping it will stick.
The Big 10 prefers members to belong to the AAU. For example, Missouri and Kansas would qualify based on that ranking.
UNLV to Bug 10? Best click bait video tag of the year
Miami plays in Miami Gardens (Hard Rock Stadium) not in Coral Gables where the university is located.
I remember years ago when the B1G were adding Nebraska/Maryland/Rutgers, Kansas was often mentioned as a potential expansion school
I don’t believe AAU membership qualifies as a ranking!
they explicitly stated AAU isnot a requirement for membership. they are clearly considering schools like unlv
Unlv shouldve accepted the invite to the Pac 12, that makes waaaayyy more sense
they did the right thing not accepting the invite from the Pac 12, as they are going to collect all the money they can and then bounce to another conference to make even more money (when there agreement time is up).
@@EyeOfTheWatcherI agree, some current Big 12 schools will jump soon I would think which should open up some spots.
UNLV would have the best TV market in the Pac. They can get into the Big 12 within the next decade.
Not really. The PAC is a glorified G5 conference now. The level of competition there is basically the same as what the MW was this year...
@@paidtourist6563 Its able to compete with the AAC thats the only difference it doesn't have the bottom Mountain west schools
If u want to know how ridiculous this is UNLV isn't even in the top 300 in Forbes rankings of academic schools while the B1G only takes AAU schools. UNLV should be more realistic & aim for Big 12.
THIS is the most valid argument there is. If they won't let Florida State into the B1G until they get their AAU certification, they sure aren't interested in a school with ZERO chance of achieving the one thing the B1G uses to brag about still valuing education more than other conferences. Not to mention, B1G schools have HUGE athletic departments with 25-35 different varsity sports. I'm guessing that UNLV doesn't.
No way in hell, UNLV can’t even sell 15,000 tickets to its home football games. Academically they are a poor upstart
This is crazier that Sac State to the Pac12 lol.
Yes it is
At least Sac State put forth effort they committed to a new stadium and raised over $22 million. 😂
@ yes Sac State is definitely doing the work. I think they make the most sense for the next west coast team to move up to the FBS.
I totally agree with you Spencer. UNLV to Big10,no way that will happen, what are they smocking.
Black tar heroin, probably
UNLV isn't going anywhere without UNR.
Have people still not figured out yet what expansion teams requirements are yet? Seems not.
Sweet. I’d like to be president tomorrow. UNLV and I have the same chance at both our wishes.
This made me laugh for almost a whole minute. Colorado is an AAU school with very strong research and the #16 DMA vs LV at #40
UNLV, stay off the weeeeeeeeddddd! 😵
The attendance of UNLV is not close to good enough
"I wish I was a little bit taller, I wish I was a baller, I wish I had a girl that looked good, I would call her. I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat and a six-four Impala"
The Big 10 should have the Big 10 Championship game in Vegas and not in Indianapolis. Vegas can handle 65,000 travelers.
Lunacy
Why would the big 10 want that?
Spencer what about ASU and TCU. To get into the B1G into the Phoenix and Dallas Markets and help the former PAC 4 with travel?
Maybe ASU but I don't think TCU.
Colorado is obviously another option to go with the Sun Devils
ASU is an AAU member. TCU isn't.
No shot the B10 wants them
There's absolutely no way UNLV will ever be part of B1G. As other comments say it's not academically fit.
As a University, it's academic reputation is terrible in most departments, and it's student GPA/acceptance is weak
Boise, SDSU, OSU, WSU, Memphis, Tulane, ALL makes more sense to make a jump than UNLV. My main problem with UNLV is that they have only had like three 10 win seasons since their start in the FBS, only one NY6 appearance in like the 70s. I don’t think UNLV will go back to the same level they were without Barry odem, but I do not think they will be as good as they were the last two years.
Edit: I mean I think they will be a solid program like Fresno state with up years and down years, but will never be as consistently great like Boise state
I thought that article on UNLV was insane too.
Spencer, it's a new world in CF... I think UNLV has way more up side than ND in the next decade.
Fans of every B1G school would love to take a trip to Vegas vs ND and it wouldn't take that long for
UNLV to better their recruiting.
They don't love Vegas enough to split their TV revenue with them.
The B1G already has the largest TV markets and recruiting territories. Vegas recruiting region isn't even a blip on their radar.
UNLV in the Big10 is a 4 win team every year 😂. I could never imagine a season in which they would ever beat Penn State, Michigan, Oregon and Ohio State in the same year.
20 years ago I thought the same about Oregon...
unlv haters in the chat
@@liljoe31 yes! But I bet they can’t prove me wrong.
Buddy what do think north western is? Purdue illy ucla Rutgers Maryland all have had similar or worse seasons in the b10. Multiple times lol
I mean who the hell would, that's a gauntlet. They can upset 1 every yr.
as a UNLV fan...I really don't think going to the BIG10 is the goal and realistically I don't believe it could happen.....BUT I do believe UNLV is looking toward a BIG12 invite in the area of 2030 expansion.
Not good enough! Would help for travel for UCLA, USC, Oregon, Washington.
Exactly, so would Arizona, ASU, Utah and Colorado, all of which are AAU schools.
yeah. but none of those schools are in Las Vegas
@@liljoe31 All of those markets are LARGER than Las Vegas. Step away from the bar 🍺
It’s already bad enough Big 10 can’t kick out Rutgers and Northwestern. 😂😂
anybody know which non p4 school is the last to win a national title in football or basketball ?
I think that the B1G would go after Colorado and an Arizona school before they'd think of UNLV. At least Colorado and Az or Az St would return the B1G to their "contiguous states" rule from the past.
Those 2 schools (just barely where the corners of the 2 states touch) would connect all the states in the B1G, from coast to coast.
UNLV? Haha. Maybe they could take a Colorado; but only if CU becomes relevant after Prime leaves. Then Big 12 back fills with Colorado State (I can dream, right)!
The BIG10 accepts community colleges?
What? For one, you have to be a AAU school. The Big Ten can pretty much pick whoever they want and I don’t think a Mid major would be their first pick.
Tulane to the BIG 10 sounds like a great fit actually haha I didn't even think of that until you said it but it's an ex SEC school that is AAU. It also start getting into the SEC territory. Maybe get Tulane and poach Texas A&M from SEC now that they don't want to be there with UT-A. 👀
Tulane is a second rate small school...aint no chance....
@O.G.LIL-MAN yea just like there is no chance with UNLV. They are not AAU status like Tulane and all other Big 10 schools
Is there any truth in the rumor of the Canes poaching USC DB coach Belk just a smoke screen to tick off the big 10.
Clickbait title, no basis in fact.
I want to give Margot Robby the most disappointing 90 seconds of her life, wants and get are too different things.
Ah, I’d like to be 6’4” or 6’5” too, but liking to doesn’t equate to being. The Big Ten looks at academics and research besides how the school and alumni support a program. Don’t know in what world that could include UNLV.
The current president is effectively ending research money though. Gotta love America
@ I seriously doubt that. Maybe only on pointless dumb stuff.
They’d take UNC and maybe a Miami
wrong. there are more schools than that that they would take, however know your politics. schools like UNC and Virginia are not going to be able to go to the Big ten alone and so the question is the big 10 going to want to take their sister state schools. it does not matter what the Big ten wants. you have to understand the politics of each state and how how much control their state legislatures wield over their State universities. in the case of UNC, most people nationally seem to be clueless of how the University of North Carolina system works and the amount of control the General Assembly exerts over the UNC system and the board of governors along with of course The fact they are the ones who fund UNC with public funds from the people of North Carolina.
UNC is currently ~100% to SEC when/if.
The Big 10 will not consider schools that are not in the Association of American Universities. However, I believe that an exception would be made for Notre Dame.
Notre Dame has been an AAU member for two years now.
Notre Dame is AAU now
aau is no longer a requirement to join big 10 (Nebraska) and AAU standards arent what they used to be (Miami) anyway, thus UNLV joining the B10 is not the craziest notion in college sports, as they exist today
@@liljoe31 What does the Big ten get out of it? I am not sure what UNLV brings to the table.
@@liljoe31 Nebraska was an AAU member at the time they joined the B10. UNLV isn't even a top-300 school much less a B10-level school academically. The B10 is more than sports. The B10 presidents want all-around universities (academics, research, athletics) instead of a one-trick pony like UNLV.
Not good enough
Nebraska is no longer an
AAU school.
Why are they in the Big 10?
NEB was an AAU exception to get to 12 members. Kicking is far different than not inviting.
Nebraska’s football history in success vs UNLV is incomparable.
UNLV has had a couple of respectable seasons. They have no true history nor due they have the monetary endowment to support football in that capacity.
Big 10 didn’t want Stanford & cal why big 10 want unlv make no cents
It’s “ no sense “. Good grief
@@Tee-duckI think he means maybe that UNLV doesn’t bring any money?… I’m guessing.
I dont think its a matter that the B10 didnt want Cal and Stanford, its that they didnt value the programs for football marketing and adding them would dilute the football contracts. Stanford academic endowments and olympic funding dwarfs the entire country 4:1 - its not even close. From an economic standpoint its ridiculous to not value them, however for specifically football there are different rules. The Football market is different from the rest of all markets, and so B10 wants to not only maximize value but ensure superior media contract value per school than the SEC, which they achieved.
Had they added Stanford and Cal the value would be diluted below what the SEC had, so I think thats ultimately why they didnt get offered at this point.
Now that Indiana is good again, the B1G needs a new tomato can in football that has a rich basketball history. Enter UNLV.😂
B1G is taking all the big markets!! I can see UNLV being like a Rutgers and Maryland both big markets which have gotten better. The B1G wants a team in Vegas!!!
@@JoeyAugustine lol, no they don’t.
see Joey, UNLV isnt good enough for big 10 or pac2😆
nobody wants us!
@@liljoe31 you are correct.
LV is the #40 media market in the nation. DFW is #4, Houston is #6, Atlanta is #7, do you think LV is more valuable than them?
Utah couldn't even get in the Big 10. UNLV certainly isn't lol.
I like it!
Why so they can lose every game?
Not going to happen UNLV. Yes there is a big difference between the Mountain West and the Big 10.
Notre Dame and either FSU or Miami is a possibility.
UNC and Duke are possibilities also.
"No."
- Big Ten
They need schools on WC to alleviate the the travel.
UNLV would need to change their colors. We already have a scarlet and gray here and they are national champs.
Absolutely not
UNLV doesn’t even have a top 5 fan base in the MW for football or basketball
Yup, UNLV posted one of the best seasons in program history and Fresno State, Boise State and Colorado State all beat them out for average home attendance this year.
As a UNLV fan, I thought this was an absurd article. They have nowhere near the academic criteria for the B1G, not even getting into the athletic side. The Big 12 would be a much more realistic fit, and they would be back with long-time rivals, Utah and BYU, plus geographic fit with Arizona and ASU.
plus our basketball program is a dumpster fire
true but how funny would it be if UNLV, the school not good enough for the pac2 😆, ends up in the BIG10
I just dont see the value in taking UNLV over Boise State to the B12. Statistically the last 4 years BSU is more competitive than UNLV - and this includes two of the worst years in BSU history since 96 in football.
So what youre gonna float $30-$40 million on a market buy for a program that is declining in what it was known for and somewhat emerging in a sport it has no track record for? Big picture what does that get you? The B12 is set for the future in basketball, and I dont see how adding UNLV really brings more value. They are slipping in football, so why would you go after the 2nd best recent football program with money and market with no track record as opposed to the growing market in a program that has been amongst the highest in the entire league for consistently high level play.
Literally 75% of the current B12 teams have a losing record to Boise State. So if youre trying to grow your conference, why would you add teams that dont move the competition level of your conference? Problem is the B12 is stubborn, relies on markets, and is quite frankly dumb. Its fair to poo poo BSU on market, except Boise ID has been consistently in the top 5 cities nationally growing in population as an mass exodus of Califonria into cheaper states. Its a risk for sure, but whats not a risk is what you get from an actual competition standpoint. Its statisticallu impossible to claim what Boise is doing is a fluke. They have not had a losing season in 28 YEARS! Thats #1 in the nation and best All Time for Division 1. Thats the cherry - this a program that since 1939 has only had 5 losing seasons EVER..... Thats 90 years of consistent history across 4 leagues and 9 conferences. This is just base level - the cieling is national titles in every league they have ever played in besides Division 1 FBS, but 5 undefeated seasons in said league. Thats a lot of data to just deny.....
Do you really want to risk competitive growth of your conference to compete with the B10 and SEC over market value of Las Vegas - thats what it comes down to imo.
@MattBuild4 Let's be honest, neither UNLV nor Boise St has any chance of getting into the B1G or SEC, and even the Big12 is a long shot. I'm just saying the Big12 is more realistic, but that's just more teams to share money with, too. Unfortunately, how well the program has done is only part of the equation, which, because of the other factors you listed, is why they always get overlooked. As an MWC fan I just wish Boise St was invited earlier, along with Houston, when Utah, BYU and TCU where still in the conference. It would have been really good group of 5, probably the best. In the end, it does make sense to finally have Boise St, WSU, OSU and Gonzaga all in the same conference though.
SMU??? They were a American Athletic Conference. Then they made jump to the ACC where they beat everyone on their schedule except BYU (who maybe was underrated in the B12), the lost in a final second +55yd FG by Clemson (who in recent History has been the premier team in the ACC), then they got beat by Penn St who was way better than advertised...
So teams can make the jump... Sure i will give you that going 11-1 in the ACC is probably significantly easier then going 11-1 in the B1G.
Yes agreed. anybody can make the jump but that assumes the Big ten is going to invite UNLV at this time which I do not think is the case. The presenter of this video has no clue what he's talking about as far as why UNLV would want to join the Big ten. of course they'd want to join. your SMU example is not a great one. SMU was a member of the Southwest conference for many years and they were a member of a major conference a lot longer than the years they were not.
SMU also played 70 years in the SWC before getting thrown to the G5 after they got a death penalty. They are the 3rd most winningest program in that conference, which is the entire reason Texas snitched on them in the first place. SMU also has money - as in old school Rockfeller Oil baron money - float $280 million no problem money. UNLV aint got that historical prestige nor the cash.
@@MattBuild4 everything prior to them being in the AAC I don't want to say is he roven and completely undermine your statement but 70 years ago of history is irrelevant. When a school program typically lasts 3 to 4 years with a student's body and then it either goes good, bad or stays neutral. To make the jump from group of five into the power four and be dominant ie being able to win all your games except the ones already 4th mentioned is a huge achievement. Because when you break it down, the best of the best high school players are going to go to an FBS power 5 program and then those that couldn't make it into the power. Five are going to go to the G5 and then so on and so forth now. Sure, I'll give you that SMU probably has super Deep pockets. And thanks to nil is using those pockets. But historically speaking what SMU did in the ACC. Arguably should not have happened within one year.
@ Depends on the conference. What is said is that we have two levels of competition where one is automatically greater than the other. This thinking is not representative of the actual conferences. P4 and G5 are just marketing terms - they dont exist in any contract. The P4 has never grown a conference based on competition. So if you have a competitive program move into a P4 conference with lackluster competition then id argue its really not that surprise.
@MattBuild4 which I can agree. a G5 team going into the SEC/B1G right now and having a record of 11-1 would be extremely impressive. If a G5 went into B12 or the ACC and they go 9-3 or better it is really impressive but they probably had an extremely good team within their old conference
Let us in - we’d be fun
Na, bunch of scrubs
The Big10 needs patsy schools that are sure wins for the rest of the conference. It doesn't hurt to ask.
Thats what Maryland, Minnesota, rutgers and rutgers do year in year out, and as IU moves up Purdue went down, Illinois got better Michigan got worse. It all balances out
What’s wrong with them going to the Big Ten…They have Pac10 schools in the Big Ten so what’s the problem!?
Those Pac10 schools are AAU members and have successful research/academic/athletic credentials, large enrollments, large endowments and sizeable fanbases. UNLV has a LONG way to go before they achieve that level.
@@dantesinfernopurgatory7826Why did SMU move to the ACC and they were playing Memphis a year ago!?
@@79chevy901 The ACC added SMU as preemptive backfill, SMU is in the ACC's academic branding, and SMU is in Texas.
@ I know where it’s located and it’s far away from the east coast!
@@79chevy901 The B1G added some PAC members as part of a contracted/consolidated Tier 1. UNLV wouldn't be a part of that.
Yeah, and I want to travel to Alpha Centauri. UNLV is far from meeting B1G academic standards and despite all the hype about football, you're not even in the B1G minor league when it comes research money.
It would have been 31-26 if he had made the field goal.
If ASU makes back to back CFP do they get an invite to the big 10?
no,
no they do not.
UNLV stayed in the Mtn to get away from.Boise St and an easy run to the top of conf without someone beating twice a year.
Yeah, no
The Big 10 doesn't want Notre Dame wtf would they want UNLV. ridiculous
Sports Illustrated puts out an article for clicks and advertisement money and people take it seriously. LOL.
If the big 10 denied Notre Dame I doubt they value UNLV
Why on earth would the B!G want to add a lightweight like UNLV? Just for the Vegas trips?
UNLV would be a better fit for a second tier conference like the Big 12.
@@sarahmccoy1941 respectfully they aren’t even a fit for the B12. They are a fit for the new PAC12. If we want to look at the best candidate for the B12 (after the B10 plucks schools like Colorado or Arizona State), it would be Oregon State, large enrollment, relatively close to Portland, athletic budget at power 5, NIL collective spending bonkers money, strength in football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, gymnastics, and huge alumni base.
@@DocSkirv They already established they do not want Wazzu or Oregon state, because they want to move away from college towns. Big 12 is trying to get media markets, which in that case would make UNLV a better fit. (but still not a good one.)
@ hard disagree.
@@DocSkirv why
@ it ain’t about big markets and small markets…it’s about media markets value, regardless of small town or big town. For example, Rutgers is 36 miles from manhattan NYC. No one cares about Rutgers. Boston has nearly 5 million in the metro, but if the ACC were to implode, no power conference would pick BC up.
UNLV has some of the absolute worst viewership and attendance in the MWC . Ironically, the conference leader is…Wyoming for that. Casper ain’t Vegas.
When media deals are considering conference valuation for a media deal, sure, metro areas are highly considered! Highly! But so is athletic budget (UNLV in a DEEP hole here), fan support (UNLV is a colder ticket in Vegas than the discount food buffet at circus circus), market sports saturation (knights, raiders, and soon the A’s and NBA expansion), which sends UNLV even further down the importance list. Alumni involvement, again, nearly non existent at UNLV, facilities (damn good in Vegas) but still an off campus deal, NIL spending, UNLV is upper middle of the pack in MWC, but nowhere close to a school like Boise.
The rebuilding PAC12 didn’t even include them in their first pass.
If media markets were the priority, then San Jose State would be coveted. Do you see them being coveted?
Washington State? I LOVE the Cougs! Love them. But they are in a precarious spot with athletic budgets, media market, NIL, and yes, in their case, isolation. Closest major metro is Spokane, 75 miles away.
Oregon State on the other hand, is barely out of the Portland CMSA (Vancouver Wa, PDX, and Salem), with P4 facilities, P4 NIL spending, P4 athletic budget, and the PDX metro TV market of nearly 2.5m people. Huge alumni base. Their TV numbers were also very good nationally, competitive or ahead of many SEC and B10 games for viewership. Also nearly 40,000 students, making it the largest university in Oregon, the second biggest in the PNW behind Washington, and it has had growing enrollment for over a decade. Also, it counts amongst its alumni the 11th richest person in America, with a net worth of $104b, Jensen Huang. His involvement in OSU is developing rapidly.
To be clear, I am an alum of neither. But Oregon State isn’t only the safest bet, they are the smartest bet. Clearly not for the B10, but the B12? No brainer.
lol, UNLV isn’t going to the BIG10.
UNLV should go to the new reformed PAC 12, they aren't getting into the B1G.
And people in hell want ice water.
Thanks for the Laugh 😂
That's ridiculous.
You might as well say that there's a report that Troy State may join the SEC.
Hilarious!
They will get destroyed in the big 10😂 they are not big 10 ready
They can come to the Big ten but I bet they don't win very many games.
Spencer how does the G5 go about having their own national championship?
And I just won power ball
Ya right
The pac 12 should have added UNLV , Boise State, and Fresno State years ago but they dropped the ball. Maybe the conference would’ve survived with more teams idk. But at the moment fuck the PAC 12 its just going to be a G5 conference as all the teams would be G5 schools now with the exception of 2.
Clickbait, right? I mean, it worked, here I am, but, smh.
I didn't write the article.
Big Ten has historically only added schools that are part of the AAU. Now when admitted Nebraska was AAU certified but lost it and there is a lot of pressure for them to get certified.
This push is prob coming from Dan Mullen.
Good schools to the big 10
1. Georgia Tech...Great academic school with getting the Atlanta media market
2. Notre Dame...does nothing for media market but the brand does help the next TV deal. academic and location
3. UNC. great academics and good media market with Charlotte, Winston Salem/Raleigh
4. or pluck an SEC school like Georgia. each big 10 school earns 13 mill more than an SEC school
Well the SEC and BIG are coordinating together. So they are not going after each others schools. Oh BTW UGA isn't AAU.
BIG might go after a southern school like GT or maybe Miami. But I think they are going back out west.
For them Its Stanford (and ND), Colorado, and Arizona. The SEC is looking at UNC, Kansas, Virginia, and probably Duke.
@adamb6370 the big 10, acc and the pac 12 started an "alliance" around 3 years ago, then the big 10 poached ucla and usc from the pac 12 causing other schools to leave. these sec schools like any other schools want what's best for them, not the conf. they would leave in a heartbeat if they can get 15mill more dollars a year.
but remember Nebraska wasn't part of the AAU when the big 10 put them in. so going after UGA would not be an issue. but I do think one of the carolina schools like UNC would be good for the big 10. but geoegia tech would be great as well
Unlv to big10? Lol!!!!
I had to read the title 3X 😅
UNLV Merch Revenue and athletics brings in well over the average Big Ten Revenue, over 108 million in revenue last year. I am not saying their athletics is good, im just telling you that they have reaped the success that was many moons ago with Tark, and with the Vegas Market... they sell.....if we are talking money it definitely makes sense
Actually, as reported by CNBC in December 2024, 17 of the 18 B1G teams(UCLA $105) have annual revenues of over $115 million. 5 were over $200 million. Basically, UNLV would be the 18th largest athletic department in the B1G with OSU making almost 3 times their revenue.
@@michaellawrence588 my report must of of been before the merge, nice info
The tens of billions 💵per year in research revenue generated by the Big Ten Academic Alliance (THE crown jewel of Big Ten membership) makes every athletic/media rights dollars combined look like mere pocket change.
"get rid of the right guys", love it. You suck - see you later.
Cal is a great fit for the ACC because they are trash and so is the ACC
Maybe, but that would make the new BIG12 sewage.
UNLV would have a top 5 TV market in the Big 12. UNLV will likely dominate the MW over the next 5 years, then the Big 12 will likely be interested in them. If they win a few NCs while in the Big 12, then they're welcome to join the Big 10.
UNLV has a large market and top facilities. It would be perfect if the B1G wants to get to 22 teams and play 100% in-conference games.
UNLV is already better than Rutgers, Maryland, Purdue, and Indiana outside of 2024.
Let's not get carried away. UNLV would be dead last playing a physical B1G schedule in cold weather. They would also be dead last in B1G U.S. News academic rankings:
U.S. News Rankings of the schools you mentioned vs. UNLV:
Rutgers - #41
Maryland - #44
Purdue - #46
Indiana - #73
Nebraska - #152 (last place in the B1G)
UNLV - #244
@@dantesinfernopurgatory7826 Spot on, not to mention their football team has more 2 win (or less) seasons than 7 win seasons over the last 20 years, the coach and OC that helped them lately are gone, and 2023 home game avg. attendance was 23,661 , not on the same planet as any P4, .
top facilities = plays in an NFL stadium 🤣
@dgart7434 Which is a top 5 stadium in the world...🤣
@dantesinfernopurgatory7826 What metric are you using? There aren't even 244 teams in the FBS. If we're using the Sagarin strength index, then it goes like this...
1.) Ohio State
3.) Oregon
4.) Penn State
9.) Indiana
12.) Michigan
21.) USC
25.) Iowa
33.) Illinois
35.) Nebraska
43.) Washington
46.) Rutgers
48.) UNLV
50.) Wisconsin
77.) Maryland
86.) Northwestern
89.) Michigan State
127.) Purdue
So immediately they would be middle of the pack in the B1G.
Now here's what you're missing...The impact of having B1G on the uniform automatically surges recruiting. How many recruits would like to live in fvcking Las Vegas, play in a top 5 facility in the world, while playing in front of NFL scouts by default, while getting more exposure against better competition? I 100% guarantee that within 3-5 years, UNLV would be top half of the conference every year.
If you cared about quality of competition, then why are Purdue, Northwestern, and Maryland in the B1G? They are garbage...
Bottom of the big 10 couldn't beat unlv
UNLV couldn't handle the physical pounding of a B1G schedule week-in and week-out. Not too mention that most B1G schools are in locations below room temperature.
@dantesinfernopurgatory7826 absolutely because mountain west teams never play in cold weather..your take is very entertaining
@@dantesinfernopurgatory7826 Yes sir, all that and more, no consistent history of winning, just lost their great coach, , not going to get many eyeballs after 2025 playing Hawaii, Utep, New Mex., SJSU, Reno, etc. Tough road ahead for them.
@@billmulder6625 The topic is UNLV, not the Mountain West. Nice attempt at deflection, though :lau
Can't compare UNLV to Tulane. UNLV is not even within sniffing distance of being AAU. Tulane at least has that
Why not, the big ten is full of average to below schools.
Only Osu and um are good, Oregon possibly, psu average and that's it.
LOL x 100000000
LOL
I can't blame them. Have you seen the schools that are in the "PAC"-12?
Kinda sounds like what utah (its administration, coaching staff, and fanbase) wants to do, though I think UNLV is a much better candidate than utah ever was.
Why not Football PowerHouse Boise State to be in the expansion?
Because the B1G doesn't want a school like Boise with such low academic standards that's the reason Cal and Stanford will never join the new PAC.
@ I’m guessing the the Ivy League institutions are probably raking in Billions in sports revenues
@@Roseyrose_32 what does that have to do with anything? They have billions in endowment Yale has 40 billion in endowment compared to 100 million that Boise has.
@@noelramirez1551 we’re talking sports here, not no innovative invention or anything academia. Notice the “sport revenue” not endowment.
@@Roseyrose_32 Yeah, why would Ivy Leagues care about sports revenue if they make more in endowment? Like Stanford could go independent if they wanted to; they would rather go independent than join a conference like Boise. Why do you think the B1G only invites schools with AA status? Because academics are important to them. Boise will NEVER get AA status.
