    Definitely tell that converter rebuilder the back of the converter can't handle being thinned down.

    Thats a very interesting failure. I bet most of these reman converters dont get the tar beat out of them like cop cars do so maybe thats why this issue hasnt shown up. I imagine those explorers get many WOT shifts a day and the force on that has to be pretty severe

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  4 місяці тому

      Makes sense, i do know if they rebuilt mine or gave me a stock converter

    • @JackS425
      @JackS425 4 місяці тому

      @@GaryFerraro I would imagine this is a reman unit. If a factory fresh converter had a material flaw which would lead failure such as this, it would have happened earlier on in the life of the converter. Not that factory parts are infallible but that would be my guess.

      I think it was turned down too muchby the rebuilder. i hear shops only go with dealer new converters guess because of this problem@@JackS425

    So is it your shop that did the build 10 months ago? Or another shop.

      I have yet to do a late model one such as this in my shop, but I did learn a valuable lesson on the 6r80 in a late model transit with the diesel. Only go with oem for that application as my local converter rebuilding source can not even install a new clutch in it. The oem one is very pricey, over 900 bucks.

    Hey Gary, I got a 07 mustang gt with a 5r55s. I have a check engine light on for a p0745 pressure control solenoid A. The car still shifts but is slightly delayed instead of shifting at 2-2,300 rpm like normal it’s delayed and shifts at 3,500rpm. Car does have 4:10 gears. Any ideas?

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  4 місяці тому

      you probably have a broken 3rd band, revving higher because shifting 1-2-4 and no 3rd

      @@GaryFerraro hmmm any ideas, would I be able to see damage from that if that’s what’s wrong with it? Plan on taking it to my work and pulling the pan

    • @silent_ghost3839
      @silent_ghost3839 3 місяці тому

      @@GaryFerraro it’ll still shift into 3rd cause once it gets to 40-45 it’ll drop down to like 1,200 rpm like normal into 4th

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  3 місяці тому

      if it sets that P0745 code it probably also sets P0733 codes as well. there has to be either a problem with the band or the piston that applies the band. Do you feel the upshift?@@silent_ghost3839

    • @silent_ghost3839
      @silent_ghost3839 3 місяці тому

      @@GaryFerraro yes I do feel the upshift, when it does shift it’s still semi smooth it doesn’t bang or clunk into gear. The cars got about 155k miles on it. It drove great up until it broke then I put it into winter storage. When we got the car back in 2021 we did a trans service oil change and rear differential service and coolant flush. The shop had said everything looked good
