Take a chord or a note and drop it in semitone increments by anything up to (or down to, depending on your point of view) an octave.
DigiTech have nailed this technology. You've heard of The Whammy, right?
The Drop allows you to drop your tuning momentarily (want to make that big fat E chord a big fat D chord for a couple of bars?) or you can decide to latch - there's a toggle that allows both. Excellent.
Setting 1 - Transposes guitar signal down 1 semitone
Setting 2 - Transposes guitar signal down 2 semitones
Setting 3 - Transposes guitar signal down 3 semitones
Setting 4 - Transposes guitar signal down 4 semitones
Setting 5 - Transposes guitar signal down 5 semitones
Setting 6 - Transposes guitar signal down 6 semitones.
Setting 7 - Transposes guitar signal down 7 semitones
Setting OCT - Transposes guitar signal down 1 octave.
Setting OCT + DRY - Transposes guitar signal down 1 octave and adds dry signal
Latency? Yes, but very little. I think it's less than you'd experience with most DAW software versions of similar products. My loose guess is somewhere between 64-128 samples which is very reasonable and useable given the size, price point and feature set of The Drop.
Tone loss? None to speak of considering the crunching this little engine has to do in such a short amount of time. I hope I demonstrate this in the video
True Bypass? Yes.
Easy to operate? Couldn't be easier.
There's a Dry/Octave below setting as well.
Useful? Absolutely. Fun? That too.

Great demo. Had no idea a pedal like this existed.
It's literally a Solid continuous Pick :)
digitech make very cool pedals like whammy or sdrum or trio
this pedal is extreamlly good if you have floyd rose it save so much time. :)
RIGHT! When all your guitars are with floyd it's salvation
I have seen many of your demos, and I appreciate the time you take to go through all these pedals and their settings. You ROCK!
This review is brilliant, I really appreciate how well you show the polyphonic tracking of this pedal - as I'm buying one to save tuning my guitar down from song to song in practice, and need it to cope with chords well without introducing too much latency and changing the sound too much (apart form frequency, of course!). THANKS FOR MAKING THIS VID!
Love it!! I think these things are so underrated for live work. Thanks for the in depth review
This pedal is so freaking useful, i think everyone should REALLY get this pedal.
I'm actually really surprised how well it holds up. Sometimes with pitch modulation you get some 'wiggles' when your going lower, so happy days!
Thanks. You are the only demo I could find that played some simple open clean chords. That is what I wanted to hear.
Thanks for demoing clean sounds. Nobody does and almost feels like they’re kinda masking the actual sound of the pedal.
Brett, your videos are exdellent. I feel like you are sincere as well as great playing, explanations, etc... Thanks!!!
Hey, no probs. Thanks for watching and for your support. Rock on!
hey brett how does this pedal work with acoustic guitars??
Excellent demo as always. Thanks
This review made me buy this pedal! Digitech, pay this man his deserved money!!!
same lol
@@iangarza990 Just bought it as well!!!!
Great demo. So much easier than switching guitars, and makes practice easier too! Play along with the artists in the chords they chose, then drop the whole thing down to perform. Much easier than transposing manually. And that Aussie charm, Brett! How many guitarists have you ever heard saying "I need an extra arm"? Well, maybe if you're playing Steve Vai. Anyway, I'm sold.
The shifting is great on these. I own the whammy dt. I really wish they would have added the up shifting option for capo sounds, but also because the dry + 1up oct option sounds great for copping a 12 string tone.
Suddenly...my Danelectro Baritone became obsolete...
Pretty cool capabilities. Love the mixed octave mode.
That subtle pin drop. ;) Your playing is top notch in this video, Bergs.
The tracking on that pedal sounds amazing I didn't hear any lagging I'll be picking up one of those
I remember when this was a rumor last year. I'm glad they did it. I didn't really need the whole whammy thing. It's not perfect, but having a dedicated guitar is the only way you'll do better. Which isn't an option for some people's budget.
Thank you Brett!I bought it after seeing this video and found it very useful and funny!
Love the sound of your prs.
Very nice, thanks for the review! I remember wanting the Morpheus Droptune when it came out some years back, but I never pulled the trigger on it. I might just go for the Digitech if the price is right.
At last a proper review using complex chord not just single notes sounds great.
Wow, I definitely need this. Holy cow.
Damn! Good thing I saw your vid. No need to buy other guitar for certain tune, this'll really save a lot. Thank you!
My buddy plays in a cover band and he uses this pedal. Perfect for that application.
Nice demo - Man, you can play!! Wish I could rock as easy as you make it... Cheers!
Sounds great Brett. Digitech is really getting back in the game of late.
Any upcoming vids on the RP360?
That seems pretty cool!
Wery impressive! It sounds like good. I actually surprised of this pedal and I've never heard this tone. This guitar tone is so low and I guess, I would buy this Drop pedal immediately cause I need it for my metal playing. Great pedal!
That guitar is sounding great
Good review. Read and viewed videos all about others (sub and up, pitchfork etc) and this is considered the best by far, espically on chords as well. I have ordered one, as well as on guitar (mainly half step down a la EVH and SRV), I am going to use it with my electric viola to get cello tuning. Apprently the most natural sounding in full octave mode. One thing to mention is that with guitar if the volume of your amp is quiet so that you can still hear your strings being plucked, it can sound odd. This is not the pedal, just that you have to have the map loud enough (or headphones) so that the natural key of your guitar string does not ring through.
this thing is AWESome
thx for the vid!
do they make a pedal that changes the type of tuning like to drop D or open tuning w/o needing a special guitar?
Thanks for demo
Hi Brett great reviews , I have a question , is possible use this pedal if you are tuning already in drop like drop C ? or it work only in standard tuning ? thank you so much
Ehy man great demo! So honesltly, does it work good with clean tones?
Man, tell us more about your amp....your dirty channel sounds killer.
Hey Rob, from your experience with this pedal do you feel it would track better earlier in the signal chain vs. later? Thanks!
First person to actually show the complete workings of the unit. I chopped up my index finger on my left hand some time back, and have been looking to find the IDEAL unit to help me out at the Church, SINCE i HAVE MY GUITARS TUNED IN "F", "C", and "D"---OPEN AS A STEEL GUITAR,without having 3 guitars on stage with me , and having to jump ship so many times at every song change... THANKS A MILLION GUY...
Thanks Brett want to use this with guitar interface and then into a daw - do you know if this will work well - not a fan of helix native pitch whammy block - this would be much easier on the fly - thanks
Awesome video! And I will have to ask for the model of your guitar, too.
Wich place on the set do you put this pedal? Before drives?
Nice video. Thanks dude. Which number is the Drop D?
Totally cool, going on my board.
Wow this pedal is really cool 😁 I wish i would have known about it 8 guitars ago 😉 but oh well now i have a sweet guitar collection \,,/
How is the tracking if you get a bit crazy with the whammy bar like divebombs and flutter effect?
HI I know I'm late but if you could reply to this it would be awesome.
How does this pedal affect the tone? I'll always be using this for distortion and from anyone else who has one on the internet except Ryan Bruce, they make chords sound like mud. I obviously dont want this but I want your experienced opinion thanks!
Are you in the front of the amp or in the loop?
Hello!
Where should I put this on my pedalboard? As first pedal? Last one? Before drive or after it?
thanks!
Hello brother! Can I ask for a big favor? You have the Brownie right? Can you check it with the Drop? When I using them together I get an amazingly loud hiss! Also check it out with another Fet based pedal like Box of rock or Fet drive. Best, Carlos
i play bass in drop d, with emg 35cs pickups, so the sound is super subby. can it handle dropping it down to c to play that low note on a 4 string?
I have a Mooer Pitch Box for drop tuning, and I'm thining of buying this one.Would it be worth? The Pitch Box fucks up your timbre a little and also puts a delay in your sound.
I have this pedal and with all my guitars it adds a slightly bassy tinge to my tone which gets worse the lower down you drop. After three or so with a clean sound, it just goes really flubby and unpleasant. However, I cannot notice any latency and I love the octave and dry setting! :D
Had this pedal for a while when I bought a bunch of guitar stuff but I play bass in a band in Drop A#. Tested it and it sounds awesome!
hey man thanx for makin this vid. the wifes been getting on to me for buying too many 7 and 8 strings and I thought this pedal would be a cheaper solution and It seems that it indeed is lol. thanx again man!
I have a question do this one have the same exact features for the pitch shifting like you know how the dt whammy has like 8 octaves high and 8 octaves low I love the tones the more expensive one has but don’t want to spend a lot of money but I love the tones the other ones are these exactly the same even though the other one has more octaves to drop or raise
Does it works well with bass guitar, like 5&6 strings?
Curious how well this would work for vocals....
Can I use this with a amp modeler multi effects that has no effects loop?
great..i have a question in the chain where i put it
Damn it! I just bought new 13 gauge strings and was going to reset my geetar! Now you are making me go buy this instead
Does this pedal works if it is used with an acoustic guitar?
Is this a pedal option on the rp 360?
Where do you put the pedal at for the best tone. I put it at the beginning of the distortion pedal chain and it sounds like organs playing with it when I drop any. Octave setting sounds ok. Then I put it in front of the delay and reverb on the send/ return chain and it sounds like organs playing but not as bad and octave sounds better. What am I doing wrong cos I would hate to think I bought a $200 pedal for nothing .....
it sounds good but i think they should release something that goes down or up in semitones.. like the dt section of the whammy dt
this can be used instead of buying a bass right? if so, could it go as low as a 5 string bass?
How did I not know of this? I used to have a Morpheus Droptune (which pretty much sucked) and was looking for a better solution for years. Is it still the best you can get for less than $300?
it kinda loses the tone a little bit in my experience, it's not the same thing as actually down tuning, but in a gig it's very useful
Do you think an EQ could make up for the loss?
It's not perfect, but it sounds so much more natural than any other pitch shifter I've ever heard from Eventide, Line 6, EHX, etc. I'm really impressed.
Its pretty good through 1 1/2 steps. After that it's a tone sucking machine..
@@kekyko9951 would this be a good pedal if I wanted to play drop C, B and A for some metal songs? I have a Floyd Rose trem, set in standard tuning.
Hotone Harmony does this too, including up to 2 octave up (not just drop tune) and crazy small.
the ultimate pedal for a medley
strange question...what would happen if you put vocals throgh the pedal?
does anybody know if you can set levels of dry and octave in last mode?
Does this mean if I buy the Mosaic pedal and this I don't have to buy a 12 string or Baritone? Please say yes!
+Brett Kingman 5:30 So It works like I'm playing with Electric guitar+BASS guitar so I don't need a bass guitar guy to play with me? Or it isn't that good?
Does anyone know how this pedal reacts on high speed riffs like 180 16th notes ?
How about the power supply, is it on 220v or autobolt?
Pardon my ignorance about the topic but... Does it work for bass too?? Thx in advance for the kind replies
It goes down 7 semitones then jumps to the octave. What happens to the other semitones?
Hi, I hope someone here can help me...
I recently purchased this pedal but the thing is that on a clean channel, with the pedal turned off, I feel a slight tone variation (guitar->pedal->amp) vs (guitar->amp)
Does this happen to anyone else or even you Brett?
Really, please, someone answer me!!!
Well rats . Had to send it back. Ghost notes through my guitar and when i used chorus it went all wabbly sounding. Had high hopes for this pedal.
I suppose there's a logic to it going down only 7 semitones before the octave?
Hey Brett is that Digitech RP360XP behind you? Can you make a nice little demo of it?
Cheers mate!
Yes! Well spotted. A demo coming up for that one soon. It's an awesome little machine; far above most people's expectations. I'll try to prioritise it for you. Thanks for watching.
I have a Jackson with a Rhoads so the new band I play in plays in B. I have my guitar tuned down to e flat. Would this be beneficial? I know setting up the guitar and putting heavier strings on it takes forever. Especially changing the action on it after being in the same tuning for 5 years. Would this be something recommended ??
It absolutely would!
Make shure you place it first in your pedal line.
From 4:16 until 4:39, you got me smiling as you did at 4:29. =)
I play through a Boss ME70 and to the amp from there. Would it work best before or after that ME70? Thanks for any thoughts.
if anything like Morpheus after the me just before amp.
Can someone write a quick reply for me? If a guitar would be in the Standard Tuning (EADGBE) and i were to drop down 2 semitones, would that mean i'm in a D Standard tuning? Etz...
Hello. I've been testing Digitech Whammy DT which has the drop module onboard. and the problem is that when I drop the tones down I still can hear the original signal which gives the crap result at the end. do you hear the original signal going throug the processed droped tone on this device?
Nope, you can hear only the dropped sound. At home, in the headphones, it loses around 10% of the volume when active. However, in the rehearsal room and live I heard no such difference (I use it on a bass). If you need various tunings, the damned thing does it
This is a cool idea if your like me and only have one guitar and want to go in a low tuneing but keep in basic E to e so now i can go from playing acdc to motley crue and not have to retune the guitar
I wonder if this would do well with being a fake clean baritone as in early Neko Case sounds. country
Bought based on your review. Getting it tomorrow - hoping for good things! It's irritating that it doesn't take batteries; that's my one gripe. (Currently I just use a wah (9v) and soon this, though.)
Mission Engineering Power 529 USB Converter with an Aukey 20,000 mAh USB power pack battery can power several effects even if they don't take batteries, you just plug the pedal cables into the Mission 529 and plug it into the Aukey, and the Aukey can fit in your back pocket and the Mission in the other, I have mine with my effects in a metal briefcase.
If you use this with something like a Roland Cube Street and a Goal Zero Boulder briefcase solar panel and a Goal Zero Yeti Solar "Generator" you can be 100% off grid in the woods.
I play a squire Jag, but I really like drop tuned metal. So I'm thinking would this would be a good alternative to buying a longer scale guitar with heavier gauge strings and let me play my Jag in lower tunings and have the string tension of standard tuning?
+Luke Evans No pedal is perfect, you're gonna experience a small change in your sound the more you drop. If you really want a good tone then you should buy a longer scale guitar.
Anyone been using DigiTech Drop for accompaniment rhythm playing for singing?
If, so, how is your experience?
ROCK ON
it works even with a bass ?
I'm considering purchasing this pedal. Are there any others that do the same right now worth looking into?
No this is as good as it gets. There are a bunch on reverb.com that are used in mint condition for like 40 bucks cheaper than the new price
If I have default standard tuning E, can I use the pedal to drop tune down to B or A using the pedal without changing default standard tuning?
yes thats how it works
Is this pedal can be used as capo?
I'm new to guitar and confused with something, let's say i'm playing harmonic minor scale positions and dropped tone with this pedal. do i still play harmonic minor scale with different key in same positions? Sorry for bad english..
+CarnivorousRoach Yes you do, your hands stay in the same place, but everything is in a lower key of your choice.
YOUR GUITAR IS JUST FUCKING AMAZING ! What's the model ??
