Excellent video - looking to move from the DMV (Silver Spring, MD) to Hampton Roads... Greenbrier looks like a place that would be good for someone transitioning from where I'm coming from.
Love your videos. I lived in Norfolk and Virginia Beach from 1976-1988. Very interesting to see how things have changed and seeing what is actually still there after all these years.
I remember when the place was ripped apart ...all the wildlife was scattered to the winds...there were deer spotted in and near the newly built interstate ramps, drinking water from the collection ponds...heartbreaking...many were hit and killed by cars or trucks trying to make their way out of the area...the entire Greenbriar building project was shoved down the citizens throats...now, you have MAJOR traffic flow issues....
Great video on Greenbrier area! Loved the info about the nursery Greenbrier used to be. At one time over near the mall/Bally's gym was a sliver of woods that had a couple of left over rows of beautiful old growth evergreens, spruce and Norfolk pines. I wish I could find pictures of old Greenbrier back then. Anyway, even though Greenbrier is nice, the best place to live in Chesapeake is Great Bridge/Hickory - hope to watch a video on these areas one day!
Hey, Dustin! Thanks for watching and glad you like the video! I will most definitely be doing a video of the GB/Hickory section. It's coming!! And also, I'll see if I can send find and send you some links of old Greenbrier.
Every time I get back to the area, and see what Greenbrier is now, I remember when Greenbrier Rd was a 2 lane country road that connected Military Highway to Oak Grove through nothing but a large tree farm🤣I lived in Norfolk Highlands off Indian River Rd.
I know that well! In fact, my family attended Eastminster Church, the next block over. I was back for a visit just last weekend and stopped in Irwin’s and got a milkshake. It was one of my hangout as a kid! We lived in Fairview on Ormer Rd .. the houses were new and that section behind us ( Wingfield Ave ) were just starting to get built. Disturbing now to see not one house that looks like they did new. Those big new houses are replacing the small ranches and just don’t fit. I saw all of Linwood Shores built. Foundation Park was still there. Ws later moved to the end of Chestnut in Norfolk Highlands. The house we lived it has been torn down and replaced by 2 new 2 story houses that are replacing many of the 50’s-60’s brick ranches. It was a very quiet neighborhood. I also saw Valley Stream built up between 61-63. I’d ride my bike around and chat with the workmen building the houses and studying the floor plans of those houses. Most of those houses look the same except trees have grown . It was all an open field then. It’s good to revisit our roots but also not good to see how some very good houses have been torn down and replaced. Someday I’d like to meet you in person over 🍺🍺when I’m back for another visit.
I just noticed your sign behind you....haha! You'd be such a fun Realtor to work with. And it definitely helps that you're so knowledgeable! Thanks for the info on Greenbrier!
I'd like to see a video for us middle class folks, instead of all the upper class..with the upper class budget! I'm sure lower middle class folks shop at the two wal-marts! They must live somewhere? Not everybody can afford the 1/2 million houses! Can we see a video on the affordable subdivisions in the area?? :) :)
Great question and not at all. Neither from Oceana or Fentress Airfield, which is the closer of the two airfields. But Greenbrier is well away from both!

Thanks for the history! I remember Greenbrier Farms but never knew the early history of it!
Still amazed that you have so many different neighborhoods in Virginia Beach..
We have a TON! And also into Chesapeake and the other surrounding cities.
It's incredible to hear about the history of the Thrasher family's land! It's come a long way. Great video and wonderful information as always!
The Howell Group - KW Real Estate thank you!!! And isn’t it fascinating and fun? Super proud to live here.

I used to live down the street from Norfolk Highlands! Across Indian River behind Irwin's.

Hi Sam. How close is Burke to you?
Burke is pretty close to DC, so we're talking about 3 hours. Do you have family in Burke?
Yes. My goof friend from high school lives there
Greenbriar...one of the MOST over=priced places in Chesapeake...hahahahahaha!!!!!
