Good for you, fun fun fun! However, PLEASE DO NOT throw the fish out 20 yds to release it, just gently release it back at your feet, I promise you won't catch it again. Imagine if you were the fish, and how it'd feel hitting the water that hard, stress during the catch + the hard landing = compromised life of the fish! :(
I’m out today in the Freeport surfside area and wish I had a fly rod this morning the trout were thick and hungry but mostly all small throw backs But still fun and would have been super sick to catch on fly rod I’ll have to bring my 5 wt next time I come down to Freeport surfside area !!!
Very nice, I just learned about Spey and Switch Fly rods and plan to get one. They are much easier to use in saltwater conditions cause they're two handed and can cast out farther easily ! Heard the switch fly rods are better for the surf but spey is looking good for the jetties.
Brother, congrats on the new fly rig. Not sure if you're new to fly fishing, so excuse if the advice is something you already know. Drill some holes in your stripping basket to let the sea drain. I have a devil of a time managing the line if it's not in the basket. Also, work on your double haul so you can shoot line on both the forward and back cast. This results in less casting and saves your arm.
I do need to drill some holes in the stripping basket. I been fly fishing the Guad for years but up there you only need to cast 20 ft. I can double hall but it definitely needs some work and doing it above my head is something new. I do appreciate the advice! Thanks!
Great video, beautiful Speckled Trout
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Right! I was like what a dickhead
Nice man! You can also use clousers and attach a sink tip to help it get down.
I will definitely have to give that a try. Thanks for the suggestion!
You can buy a 12 ft section at bass pro. I use the 5 ips works greats.
Juan Rodriguez the sink rate was my next question. I can’t wait for a calm day to try this out!
Another Fish Tail good luck brother!
