    I am a black American, 59. I have always been deeply drawn to Irish music. When I see pictures of Ireland it feels like I need to go home. I did my DNA and found out I'm 21 percent Irish. This song has been a favoirite Christmas song since I first heard it. Mr. McGowan's death hit me hard. It's a hard candy Christmas for me this year. I will take this time to bathe in my melancholy, then I'll pick myself up, dust myself off, pack up my melancholy for another year and try and muddle through.

      Hi. That's really interesting to hear that you found some Irish in your lineage. I was feeling that same melancholy ,as alot of people are and started watching UA-cam videos of where my dad was from and thought about returning home after a long long time of being away. I hope you get over there at some point . There is a magic to it somehow. Thanks for the feedback. 🇮🇪🕊️

    My favourite
    The alluring lights of O’Mallys
    Screamed another last one for the road
    For there’s no time quite like a good time
    And there’s no place more sober than home
    Great analysis my friend

    Interesting take, he is utterly brilliant. I'm floored by Misty Morning Albert Bridge, again a sense of place anchoring some distant memory that explodes into a euphoric yearning dream of something past. You're right, the time is all over the place, is it memory or dream or now? It all blends. And why it knocks you over sideways. In so few words. I did my time in London as a drinker and lover and all of it like so many and he is the poet laureate of London for sure.

    • @thesongwritersdropin2565
      @thesongwritersdropin2565  9 місяців тому +1

      Yes Indeed. Shane was so great at capturing those scenarios in words with simple language. When you see him being interviewed ,you can see that he's exactly the sort of person that is genuine in his statements. In this case there is no difference between the person and the writer . He wrote what he lived. Thankyou so much for the great feedback . I appreciate it . All the best .

      Yeah everyone’s got tons to say about what a great guy he was because he’s died. But frankly he chucked his talent away, the joke was that Shane macgowan died ten years ago but nobody bothered to tell the corpse

    Apparently when they made the video the NYPD choir had to sing Humpty Dumpty because they didn’t know any songs. So the video has to keep cutting away from them so it’s not too obvious! I’m impressedthatthey’ve started a choir since.

    My 81 yr Irish Mum is arriving from abroad in 1.5 hrs.
    I am tidying and prepping dinner. I dare say we will be watching the recording of Shane’s funeral tonight.
    My Mum really touched my heart when last time she was here we watched Sinéad’s funeral together + said it was more important than the Queen’s 💚🍀🕊️ Love to All + Slainte + Be Kind xxx

This world is a better place for both Shane and Sinead. My father didn't know a word of Gaelic despite his Donegal background . All the best to you and your mum.

      Shane WAS a train wreck...no question. He was also phenomenally talented,humble,generous and funny.They say people die twice really,right? Once when your spirit leaves your body.Again when the last person ever speaks your name.Actually in that sense Shane will live forever. Others will just disappear having been nothing but sad bitter internet trolls.
