    My concern about Tamera using coconut oil on her eyes would be the development of milia around her eyes.

    I used to struggle with painful, inflamed cystic acne as a result of my IUD, and it was a tip from Susan that actually transformed my skin. I was absolutely terrified to stop washing my skin in the morning, but it’s changed everything. Apparently my skin is more sensitive than I thought, and I was over stripping just by cleansing, and it was totally unnecessary. I do a full routine at night now, but just a water rinse, moisturizer and SPF in the morning now and my skin has improved a ton. So even if many aestheticians disagree, I really think you’re right to say that skincare is personal.

    • @jazzys4390
      @jazzys4390 4 роки тому +12

      Omg I thought it was all in my head, but I had normal skin all my life (I literally used to wash my face with bar soap and do nothing else) but ever since my IUD I have struggled with cystic acne and dry skin, which is an awful combo.

    • @arielle4242

    • @angelicamariarendon4874
      @angelicamariarendon4874 4 роки тому +6

      Juliana Fotin depends on the kind and the person (as with anything) but hormonal IUDs release hormones which can overstimulate oil glands, and this sometimes can result in acne, particularly cystic acne.

      @Isabella-pl1qt 4 роки тому +2

      anna I do that too. It’s really hard to take it all of at one time (for me at least), so a lot of the time there’s left over mascara.

    • @annnnjell
      @annnnjell 4 роки тому +6

      @@Isabella-pl1qt Depending on the mascara I use, I will go in with a micellar water for my eyes first with a cotton pad (or you can use a reusable cleaning pad if you don't want to be wasteful) and I just press it and hold it then swipe gently. I then I go in with the oil cleanser and run gently to get the other bits off, then regular cleanser, and find that everything comes off.

    • @Isabella-pl1qt
      @Isabella-pl1qt 4 роки тому

      annnnjell I do almost everything you do. But what really worked for me is that I take a shower after so the water removes everything. Don’t know if that’s good for your skin tho.

      @Isabella-pl1qt 4 роки тому

      annnnjell but maybe I should try your method

    • @1anna1
      @1anna1 4 роки тому

      Isabella i use an eye makeup remover (for waterproof mascara) first, put enough of it into a cotton pad, hold it onto my eye for a couple of seconds and then gently remove my eyemakeup. I also gently rub around the lashline, so i get absolutely everything off.
      And then I start to remove my face makeup.
      This method works fine. I very very rarely wake up with mascara left on my eyes.
      Also, when I say "rubbing gently" i mean doing like little circle-ish movements without actually moving or rubbing around.

    When Susan said coconut oil shouldn't even be used for haircare, I imagined half a billion Indian women being like 'whaaaaaaaaaaat!!" Indian women have been using coconut oil as a nourishing hair mask for centuries. I dont know any Indian woman (living in India) who hasn't or doesn't use coconut hair oil. I used it in my early growing years in India. They swear by it.

      I use coconut oil for scalpmassage combined with castor oil and sage and rosemary essential oil (just a hint, it's supposed to be diluted well), because I had problems with an itchy scalp and hair loss due to some hairproducts I used in the past. I do it for years now and I love it.

      I am white and my bf is Indian. I used coconut oil in my hair because he said it’s good for the hair and it made my hair flat and greasy for days, even though I didn’t apply it on the roots and after a few hours I washed it out with lots of shampoo. So, I think coconut oil works for thick and dry hair, but for my straight and medium fine hair it is a disaster.

    • @manyasworld1375
      @manyasworld1375 4 роки тому +12

      So true, I am an Indian and I use coconut oil for my hair and its amazing, my hair are long shiny and smooth i was shocked when she said that, it should not be used for hair as well uffff.I think this is just a marketing tricks to make us believe that, it’s not good for us. I understand, it’s not good for face but, u can remove your eye makeup with it even if u have oily skin. I don’t agree with suzan this time. And for hair ,Coconut oil can Encourage hair growth - Due to the composition of organic Coconut Oil, it will help to bind to the protein in hair and protect both the roots and strands of hair from breakage. Repair damaged hair - Organic Coconut Oil is said to be extremely effective in preventing protein loss which will help to repair damaged hair. And it can do so much for normal skin people it has so many benefits. We have tried and tested this from ages.

      @@platosfriend, how did you use the coconut oil? I find the method is important. If I apply it on wet hair and/or keep it on for a couple of hours only, my hair hates it and gets greasy. I don't personally use coconut oil on my face because it's comedogenic and I already get acne but coconut oil is used in certain cultures and has been for a long time and works for those people. Also there are a couple of studies that have shown some evidence that coconut oil can be helpful for people with eczema and psoriasis. I think you do a good job of always stressing that it works for some people but I am not sure the commenters always get that. In various countries coconut is used in the diet and beauty and works for people really well.

    I turned 27 4 days ago and I’ve had awful acne on my cheeks and chin for about 3 years now. I was over exfoliating and dehydrating my skin badly without really realizing it. I went to the Derm a month ago and she never recommended me use sun screen or even moisturizer. I’ve always used moisturizer but never sun screen and I was exfoliating twice a day sometimes chemical sometimes physical. I have used the retinol and antibiotics that she called me in. However I knew that would be way to much for my skin so I have swapped everything to CeraVe and bought the great barrier relief that I use at night. I use the retinol every other night. I massage my skin 1 time a week with rosehip oil. I also now wear a sunscreen and stopped scrubs. My skin has never looked better. I love brand reviews and I love your reactions but your deep in depth videos have helped me more then anything! Your amazing! ❤️

    Coconut oil shouldn't be used on face bt here's how and where you should use it
    1) put few drops n mix it with your feet /foot or hand cream or moisturizer ( it really works )
    2) as a lip oil
    3) mix it with other oils for hair massage
    4 ) boob massage along with sesame oil
    5 ) butt massage
    6 ) elbow and knees ( along with body moisturizer )
    7 ) if u got dry skin you can heat it and apply it all over your body before taking a shower with warm water .
    Not an expert bt I personally use it these way rather thn face , since it's the best smelling oil out thr 💜

    I honestly do a double cleanse in the morning AND evening and so far it works very well for me. But the AM and PM routine are about 11-12 hours apart. Not because I sleep that long but I do whatever chores I have in the morning as well as my workout and after that I double cleans and do all the other steps of my skincare routine. So that might be helpful to have so much time in between 🤷🏼‍♀️ I don't know but my skin feels great with all the steps I have AM and PM and it's not irritated or dry. 🤷🏼‍♀️

      Not Susan, but if you’re after an affordable retinol, look at Adapalene. Really inexpensive and definitely stronger than the Ordinary’s. Susan, I found out late in life (over 60) and while on the KETO diet that SUGAR does really affect my arthritis and is totally an inflammatory. Having been off sugar for months, I had a slice of pie and a sugary side at Thanksgiving. The next morning my fingers were stiff and my joints ached. Not a lot, but obviously more than I had felt for the months prior. So (sadly) no sugar for me if I want to feel good...which, when you do feel good you want keep that going. Also love your make up today.

    On the coconut oil thing, I have to respectfully disagree with the idea that it's 'not good' for the skin. It's not a moisturiser (but then again, oils aren't anyway, as a moisturiser by definition is something which imparts moisture to the skin and keeps it there, often an emulsion of water and oil), and it's not anything special, and there are oils with more benefits than coconut oil buttt it's not bad for the skin per se (which some oils, such as olive oil, can be) and does have its place.
    Neat coconut oil on the face is generally a bad idea as it does have a high comedogenicity rating. If you're going to use it as an oil cleanser then you've got to ensure your second cleanse is top notch and it's best to opt for fractionated coconut oil. However, in wash-off products for the hair, it can have a place, especially for v. curly hair e.g. Type 3C, Type 4. In wash-off or mask-type products for the scalp, it has a notable place clinically for flaky scalp conditions such as psoriasis, where it can be found in commonly prescribed treatments such as Capasal shampoo, and Cocois or Sebco ointments. For the body, although it's really nothing too special, it is a very good emollient and occlusive agent which makes a great alternative to petroleum jelly on its own (for people who are concerned about the environmental impact of the oil industry, for example), or as an alternative to WSP and liquid paraffin in cosmetic formulations.
    Of course, it's hella greasy. I have psoriasis and, apart from in shampoo and conditioner or very very lightweight body lotions/gel creams, I can't tolerate it in the summer. However, in winter I use it most days on the body as an occlusive, generally after showering and before bed, and my psoriasis nurse is very much on-board with this usage, as are many dermatologists. Even then, I avoid it for my face, even as a beard oil, and would recommend avoiding using it as a hair oil unless you have quite long hair or very dry hair.

      Well said. A lot of people with my skin and hair type (dry/dehydrated skin with type 3b/3c hair) often have success with coconut oil. I find it disappointing that Susan Yara is making this generalization that coconut oil is not good for the skin. Unless she has a lot of experience/knowledge with people with type 3/4 hair with extremely dry skin, I don’t think she can responsibly say that we should not use it.
